  • He was very short. He was self-taught. He understood theory, but never learned to read music. He was vain about his balding, so plastered it down in an epic comb-over. His facial expressions are a sheer delight. He doesn't fit easily into the accepted history of jazz because he was so popular.

  • I dig this guy and Oscar Peterson,,,the best.,. but what confuses me is the way Erroll Garner kept his fingers flat on the keys. I was always taught and have played the last 40 years with my fingers curved.. Hmmmmm!!

  • I LOVE THAT HE'S SITTING ON A TELEPHONE BOOK!!!

  • @doenutz37 Ha!! Thanks for pointing that out!

  • sweeeet:)

  • This phenomenal pianist and deep-feeling guy left all the top pianists of the day feeling a little inadequate. I wonder why.........

  • The Master!!!

  • I grew up with Erroll's recording of this number on the album 'Concert by the Sea' and it's remained a firm favourite of mine ever since. What amazes me is his ability to divorce his left hand from his right and play such fantastic cross rhythms. A real master! Many thanks for posting this.

  • @5705Seahorse "Concert by the sea" is one hell of a performance! Especially noteworthy the seemless transitions from funky to virtuoso and back. I love that album.

  • Thank you Pamela .

  • great

  • His hair looks oddly shiny...but his playing is even shinier!
