  • BTW homeowners: These people travel to you, leaving their families for months at a time, to help repair YOUR home. I think that is a blessing and not a SCAM. God bless them for their services...

  • BTW: Insurance companies don’t want you to file a claim because then they have to give back the money you have paid for years to fix the damages. That means the man in the video doesn’t get a raise because all of that money just sitting in their banks gets used for the sole purpose of their services. All this man is trying to do is give “FEAR” to the homeowners so that they don’t trust the “good guys”.

  • This is interesting! Why would someone who represents an insurance company tell you NOT to trust someone who helps you to repair damages done to your house? lol Furthermore, why would someone who has to work according with your insurance company be a scammer? Think of it this way... You don’t get a new roof or repairs done unless your insurance company approves it. So that means... This is not a scam!

  • He never states HOW it's a scam at all, or how any part of it is illegal or not legit. Therefore he never actually logically makes any actual point regarding the implication of this video's title. It's not a scam at all. It's what insurance companies do. That's why everyone's roof gets replaced after a storm. And door-to-door salesmen have been around for a long time. I would never assume someone was legit or not legit just because they come by after seeing that I have a damaged roof.

  • This idiot is being paid by the insurance company, home owners are left to die by this type of idiot, the insurance company don't care, they look out for the millions they have and don't want to put out. If door hangers and door to door sales people are scammers, then all the politicians who knock on our door are too for what this idiot is saying... STOP, think and put your own claim you have paid for many years and you should not pay out of your pocket for an incident that did occurr.

  • Insurance Agents are the most crooked. The less amount of claims they file the bigger their bonus is at the end of the year. I dare you to call your agent up. They will tell you to get 3 or 4 estimates. Make you jump through hoops to discourage you. Low down sorry insurance

  • This video is virtually useless. Anyone with the wherewithal to become a homeowner, likely already knows what little correct information is provided in this silly video.

Moreover, insurance companies don't just pay because a roofer wants them to - that's what adjusters are for. Well, kind...adjusters are actually in place, not to pay claims, but to limit them. My dad is a former Claims Manager who taught adjusters...their job is to deny or limit losses, period.

    Self-serving video.

  • Its really simple guys. Homeowners pay insurance for THIS VERY REASON.Hail is damaging and may lead to further damages " leaks , mold , etc." in the future.

Insurance companies are required to pay for damage to a home , hail included.

Contractors want to make a living like anyone else. Would you rather hire a company who is out knocking on doors and working hard to make a living or sitting at home hoping the phone rings? Maybe , just maybe the guy at the door is your best bet.

  • Mammie, why don't you educate yourself. Independent insurance adjuster get paid the more they pay out. If we total a house there is more work, hence more money. This is very easy information to obtain (Worley, Renfroe and Pilot are big independent companies you could find this information out from).

Adjusters don't pay for stuff that is not damaged by hail, because they don't want to lose credibility with the company they work for. We do have people come behind us and reinspect (audit) us

  • @yoyo762000 I'm pretty sure Mammie is a roofer from Philly. That BS seems to be pretty prevalent amongst them.

PS - what percentage of roofers do you think have a felony on their record?

  • The Georgia Insurance Information Service is an insurance trade group. "Inside Insurance TV" doesn't exist except on the internet. Who's scamming whom?

I work for a roofing company going door to door looking for hail damage. Here is how the process works:

First, we get National Weather Service reports indicating which parts of town suffered significant hail strikes. Then, we go into those neighborhoods and look. What we are looking for is soft metal damage and a mottled

  • I have got plenty people new roofs by door knocking. Are you calling me a scammer? If it wasn't for roofing companies like us most people would not get the new roof like they deserve. Nobody climbs on their roof and very little people know what to look for. YOU are the scammer working for the insurance companies!!! If someone deserve a new roof and I knocked on the door and got them one, I was actually helping them... Twat!

  • @blablafingbla you helped the owner but most often the damage is not from hail in fact

  • @moskiter I call BS on this one.

1 we only work areas recently hit by large damaging hail.

2 its easy to tell new damage from old.

3 its even easier to separate hail damage from mechanical , critter , etc.

We simply provide a service that insurance companies HATE because we are making them pay up. But as long as insurance companies get checks from home owners expect me to be representing homeowners and knocking on doors.

  • @mattdidit84 Hey Matt. I'm an independent adjuster and I LOVE roofers. They generate claims. I get paid based on the number of claims I do, and as a percentage of each check I write to the insured from the company. I do HATE crooked roofers (of which there are plenty, on a national average I'd guess 1 in 3). They like to argue that heat blisters, or that insurance should replace a roof because it is old... I hate those roofers, homeowners would too if they knew what was going on.

  • Door hangers are a benefit to the homeowner, It makes the homeowner aware of a possible roof damage. If the homeowner is not aware of the damage the insurance company will not have to pay the claim. True there are crooked roofers as well as crooked adjusters. But for most part, the rest are honest and are trying to help the homeowner and at the same time create work.

This spoke person represents the insurance industry and not the homeowner. Remember the insurance company is not your friend.

  • insurance companys are in the claims buisness not the inspection buisness

  • Homewoners needs to worry about their property mainance and value, specially when all homes values are droping. IF IT WAS A HAIL STORM ON YOUR AREA CALL YOUR INS, AND THEY WILL INSPECT YOUR ROOF. THAT IS THE REASON WE HAVE THEM, IN THE EVENT OF DISASTER THEY CAN HELP US, AND SOMETIMES YOU NEED A SERIOUS COMPANY (CALL BBB for records) TO HELP YOU TO CONFIRM THE DAMAGES....

ASKING THE INS TO INSPECT YOUR HOME AFTER A HAIL STORM IS NOT FRAUD

  • What is wrong with a little marketing? Having a qualified roofer inspect the roof is not a bad thing. The homeowner just has to do their part and look into the person who is claiming to be the qualified professional roofer. Sounds like someone beat you to the neighborhood where you were trying to work and you are butt hurt about it!

  • the insurance company trying to rape you in the butt a little more with lies. It's only a scam if the roofer makes the dents himself dumbasses.Otherwise it's a legitimate claim and the company helped you make those cocksuckers cut you a check.A feat which by an individual rarely happens.I do it for a living, and I have an 80% better chance of getting your insurance to cough up than you do.So if I can help somebody get the roof they deserve faster then I will.Only a moron would believe this video.

  • A LEGITIMATE ROOFING COMPANY WILL ASK TO MEET WITH YOUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOOR HANGERS ARE NOT AN EXAMPLE OF A SCAM...JEEZ!

  • really....looks like an actor hired by an insurance company...hail damage is hail damage it's the dime spinners who give the rest of us a bad name....insurance company's are not a bad thing but when it comes to legitimate damage...all of a sudden something like this pops up for the research type....

  • Stupid video. Fake books, reading q cards, Id like to get this guy in court.

  • Whats so wrong, the insurance company would not buy the roof if it's not damaged, this guy must work for the insurance industry.

  • Of coarse the insurance companies are going to want you to think we are scamming homeowners when they paying out billions of dollars annually due to sever storms. The fact is, Storms occur. Here in MN we have large golf ball size up to softball size hail very often in the spring and summer. Every year there is at least a few major hail storms that rip through causing lots of damage. I helped a homeowner though a major storm in Orono, MN just last year and they had thirty trees down

  • Why would door to door mean insurance scam. Locals have to knock. Some many stormers on the ground. Homeowners need to grab the book. Or go on the internet and see what day the doorknocker started company and were he is from

  • Problem is door knocker have tons of success. So, as a local we gotta knock. Too many Homeowners are stupid. 80 percent of yard signs from recent storms are stormers. So. I need to knock doors!!

  • Also why doesn't he also educate the homeowners on how the insurance adjusters are paid. The adjusters job is to deny your claim if they do approve then to give you minimal funds. Yet he doesn't mention that at all. Hmmmm

  • @mammie2283 Hey just to clear the air on this. I am an independent insurance adjuster and this is how I get paid. I get about 3.5% of the amount of the check I write to the insured from the company. If I find no damage I get about loose on average about 85% of what I would make if I was able to total a roof. By now you might be wondering, well gee why not just total all roofs? Great question. 1.) Not all roofs are damaged. 2.) I have to photograph what I buy 3.) I'm not going to commit fraud

  • Obviously he works for the insurance company himself. What he also failed to mention is that the Insurance Commissioner in the state of Georgia has made it to where the storms hit were catastrophic and inspections need be. If there isn't significant damage to replace the roof then the company doesn't. However I have seen more replacements done when the contractors get involved and represent the homeowner then if the homeowner goes on their own and does it with just the insurance adjuster.

  • I work with many local roofing contractors from all sorts, both large and small firms. To those who say this guy is a scam for the insurance company truely do not know what is going on in the industry. Most roofers are honest and hard working people. There are many out there, that do manufacture damage. I see it all the time. Typically pea size hail does not bruise the roof. Normally, depending on density,1inch hail bruises the shingle. Those bruises break over time posing a possible leak locat

  • Bottom line people if you give money up front to these people you are an idiot. If they hang a sign no big deal if they get your insurance to pay for a new roof no big deal this is good for you. Just dont give a check unless they drop materials first. There is nothing wrong with someone knocking on your door helping you out. The insurance company has the final say anyway. Watch the guys doing the inpection i doubt many are carrying up hammers with them.

  • The carpetbaggers pick out corner lots and pay the homeowner to leave a sign. They look legitimate but no one knows anything about them. They rent a local company for a short period and run it into the ground. Careful buyers all their life get burned. If the insurance companies would stop fighting the local contractor associations from pushing licensing laws through, this wouldn't happen.

Make sure that the company has certifications, insurance, and the salesman has references of his own.

  • djbapc4 u are a idiot pepole should know if it has hailed lately and if it was large enouph to do damage. if the hail was the size of bbs and they let someone tell them their roof was in bad shape and they got scamed they deservied it maybe they will smarten up now a little.any company will not give a true warranty the are all pro rated or they will say call the shingle manufacture we didnt make them

  • What a joke! I'm a local contractor here in Denver, fully insured and licensed and BBB listed. I go door to door because most people don't realize they have hail damage until 3 weeks later when 1/2 their neighbors are getting new roofs. I need to put food on the table like anyone else and unlike the tool seen in this video I actually work for my paycheck. "1/2 inch hail doesn't cause damage" Ha, he's probably never seen a roof 10 years after 1/2 inch hail stones hit the roof!

  • this man is from a "Georgia Ins Information Service". please check the background of this group. I'm sure they are compensated by ins companies and possibly even lobby for them in the political arena. The wool is not put over many people's eyes here. Obvious stunt by insurance companies posing as an independent information firm spreading lies and scaring homeowners. All in the attempt to further the record profits they've been recording since Katrina of which they got off easy b/c of Bush

  • ins companies are in nature a scam, a profit line of work. often getting homeowners to sign policies with hidden language that enables them to not pay claims and get out of liability, unfortunately there are not many gov run organizations that watch over these companies. Note, State Farm lawsuits in New Orleans and Indy recently.

I've ran a roofing comp in Chi for 10 yrs now and focus on hail damage repair. I have not had a BBB complaint ever. It is a legitimate line or work and claim

  • how are the home owners being duped.?

when the ins. co sends out an adjuster representing the ins co...?

If the adjuster says no pay..its no pay..

if they give you a check..then there was damage.

this guy is misleading..and dis ingenuous

  • Also what these storm chasing roofers don't tell you is when they leave the state, they leave with your warranty. Also look for collateral damage such as damage to siding, windows, screens, gutters, and porch contents. If the hail stones are less than 3/4 of an inch in diameter, they very seldom cause an damage your insurance policy will pay for. Call your insurance agent if you suspect a door to door roofing scam

  • Great and informative information. I am an agent in Central Georgia and am dealing with this American Shinlge that sends salesman that don't even look at the roof and tell a homeowner they have hail damage. The hail we had here back in the spring was smaller than BB's and did not cause damage. These snakes go door to door and even call the claim in. the adjuster goes out there and shows the insured they have no damage at all. This causes a claim on the customer's record and the premium to go up

  • this guy must be getting a kickback from the insurance companies..This guy is a moron

  • Im sorry i just listened to this guy again and he is just plan wrong and rude!!!!

  • you must be a storm chasing jack leg roofing salesman

  • You have got to be kidding me, hanging door flyers is now a bad thing!? These guys are out trying to make a living and if they can sell you a roof and have the insurance company pay for it (as long as it is legit) is wrong?? Come on man, I know there are some scammers out there and they should be stopped but, this video make out like everyone knocking on your door is bad, be cautious ask for company card, web sit, are they from your town, feel comfortable with who ever you use.

  • And....make sure you keep paying your insurance premiums EVERY month! Even if you wreck your car, don't every make a claim! People who make claims are just as big of scammers as roofers. Sickening to think some people want to market their company with 10 year warranties and do work that nobody else wants to! Just awful! The guy in this video is moderately retarded by the way. Check your facts before you go post random info on something you know nothing about.

  • Next time you get hail damage on your roof, make sure you DONT call anyone at all GeorgieValues. Don't take anyone's assistance. Let the hail damage sit there and lose granules till your plywood rots and spots of your ceiling start to show water marks and shingles look like growing cigarrette burns. Then, DO NOT call any roofer who is trying to market their company with flyers or door hangers cause all they want is your business.. the only legitimate advertising georgia is smoke signals.

  • This is actually good information, Julesy, you probably work for a roofer, going neighborhood to neighborhood telling folks they can get a free roof. This kind of activity raises premium costs for all of us and is just plain wrong.

  • What is wrong is the Ins Co. trying to get out of paying legitimate claims.

  • I am a roofing salesman (former home builder) and I do walk neighborhoods looking for damaged roofs. I check the entire house for hail and when it is there I help submit a claim, everything this stuffed shirt said is a scam. I live my life in integrity and I perform a service to homeowners I stand behind. I am more then a little offended by this person who knows nothing about roofing other then it is on the top of his house and paying a claim effects his Co. bottom line. Very poorly done video.

  • Unfortunately most Ins. people are not well informed about how products perform, including claims adjusters. The fact is that dime sized hail does significant damage to roofs as it knocks off the aggregate(sand) from the shingle. The aggregate is there to stop rain eroding the soft ash felt and keep UV rays off. The roof is in its end stage when ashfelt is dried and brittle from rain erosion and UV damage. A strong dime sized hail storm can reduce the service limit of a roof by 25 to 30%

  • wrong is duping consumers that they in good hands or like a good neighbor when I have an extreme long list of clients who's world has been thoroughly turned upside down b/c of how an ins claim was handled or for that fact, mis-handled. Note: i am an indenpedent licensed ins adjuster as well. A small amount of roofers are scammers, as well as in any other biz (car repair, dog kennels). but, in nature, ins companies look to profit by COLLECTING PREMIUMS and not paying- THAT IS THEIR BUSINESS!!

  • @GeorgiaValues Actually it is good information, however, canvassing and hitting the streets is one of the best ways to advertise and promote their business. Many elderly and even more regular people cannot climb a ladder and check their roof from damage. As a child I never remember my father climbing a ladder to check the roof after a hail storm. The simple fact is Storms create damage and people don't have time or are often scared to go on the roof. maybe in GA they scam but not in MN or CO

  • @bfhub420 We have hail here that creates damage every year, however not in the past year. Big tornadoes though. Sometimes a house only loses a shingle or two. Well that is still storm damage. Like on your car after an accident, if there is a certain amount of damage than your roof will be considered "totaled" and you will get a new roof. Now that just created a job for me because I'm a salesman, for about six other guys that will build the job, and 10 more at the office. THIS IS BAD? no wa

  • @GeorgiaValues

IF you think that anyone is actually going to surprise the actuaries who rated the product youre crazy. Raising rates is not caused by roof claims. Uneducated people like yourself that think they understand the truth shouldnt have ability to write.

This guy for Georgia is an idiot.

  • @GeorgiaValues So its plain wrong to bring to attention that a homeowner who pays a premium for insurance is within all rights to utilize the service? So its a better idea to keep paying for a service we won't use , even in need? I guess the gamble of a possible roof leak is more intelligent than the security of a new roof. Hmmmmm...I wonder who YOU work for.....

  • Homeowners if YOU are reading this, do not pay attention to the false information this video or others are trying to proclaim. They do not like the fact that 1: yes we provide help and information to homeowners that they, most of the time, are not aware of. 2: we represent them to help them get the money they deserve to get the roof they need, the most important part of any house. 3: we provide accurate information, photos, documentation to prove the actual damage made.

  • Ok I will be short because I could go all on and on. Most likely you represent an insurance company. What your not telling homeowners is that insurance companies will look for ways to find the least or no damage, and if they do find damage they will rip off homeowners by settling for the lowest amount of money meaning the homeowner has to pay someone cheap ending in poor quality, the cheapest materials that company could use and that means the warranty will not be a long time.
