I took classes at a university in America but you can use textbooks on your own + movies & dramas. For someone who speaks English...you'd probably be looking at someplace in a bigger city like Tokyo or Osaka, etc. Whoever you end up working for would probably help set you up w/ all that. Or, if you study abroad, your university would have ppl who speak English who could help you. :)
So, considering how punctual trains and sub ways are supposed to be in Japan one could expect to find an affordable place say 15-20 minutes outside of Tokyo by train?
Mind if I ask how much that appartment cost you a month? It seemed really nice to me :)
Oh, and you wouldn't happend to have an approximate number on the cost of food and general purchases for a mont? :P
Thanks a lot if you can be bothered to enlighten me.
Well...that depends on what you consider "affordable". + Cheaper apartments are going to be a 15 min. bike ride just to get to the closest station. Bike + Train time, it took me about 1 hour to get to Tokyo. The cost was about $500 a month. In Tokyo you're probably looking at $700 for a crappy apartment.
For monthly costs, it's pretty realistic to plan for $1000+ a month. Food is expensive, train tickets can add up, but bills are actually pretty cheap.
As you went back toward the kitch., the video got too dark to see anything. Hon, ya meant well but, I could have used much more narration about rents, utilities' costs, food costs, clothing, etc. And, a lighter video as you move back towards the kitch., to tour the place.
cheap? u can usually find apartments a little cheaper than that. It's just cuz it's outside of Tokyo. The closer you get, the more expensive it becomes.
Sorry, I'm making it a rule to not tell anyone my university until I leave, but there are several in the Tokyo area if you're looking for one.
heyy bit late to be commenting this vid but... what part in jappan is it good to live in because tokyo is"o lot of money!!!" lol what part du you think is good!!
To make an apartment cheaper you need to be out of the major cities, farther away from train stations & grocery stores etc. Location definitely has a lot to do with it. Either way you have to go through an agency to get an apartment so tell them your price range and they'll do the rest- be realistic though.
a burning question on my mind is that did you have to get a job in order to pay for the appartment an utilities or was it all paid for you by the exhange program people?
no, it's a regular university but it's an exchange program so usually you can only go there if your school has some sort of exchange relationship with them. There are a ton of schools solely for language right in Tokyo though. I would just google search it. If you're a college student, you could also ask your study abroad office to help find a good program.
no not at all. ^_^ It's about $500 a month. You can go a little cheaper but it'd be crappy & really really tiny. Location also plays a big role. My apartment is very close to my school, but it's right next to a graveyard, so that's why it's a little cheaper. ^^ honestly though, i don't mind. i think it's kinda cool & i get to see the temples get ready for all the festivals
Oh wow. I heard that japan is pretty pricey if you don't have a good job or are a foreigner. So that's nice to hear :) I really like your videos they tell a lot more than what everyone else says yours definitely goes more in detail
I am coming to japan next month, but it will be in Fukuoka. if you're still there maybe we could meet up in Tokyo. I may be racing out there sometime soon.
^_^ yeah, sure. I've ridden through there by train many a time. I'm actually gonna be back in the US most of Feb. & March, but I'll be back after that
Man hole covers were one of the best things about going to different cities in Japan ^_^ I love them

@GimmeKitty :P I had JUST gotten in for the first time, how on earth do you expect me to have known that information?

@midori1 OK. I see. I just wanted to see a video made AFTER you'd settled in and were more articulate about what expenses were, etc.
Thank you for the response, though.
