I'm a Morrissey fan and love his solo stuff. But The Smiths WERE Marr, Morrissey, Rourke & Joyce. Without these men it wouldn't be the same. So many Moztards slag off anything to defend their hero. As far as I see it, they all deserved equal pay. If they had a problem with that go off on your own if you want majority of the pay. A band to me, is a band, not a vehicle for one person or 2. The Smiths WERE A BAND and that's what made them great!
The ending was a bit disrespectful and the warbling stomach churning singing is an insult to injury.. Morrissey is, by his very nature, self-tortured and for him to take time out of his suffering to sing/talk to us is more than enough.. aka leave him alone you fucking monsters!
joyce and rourke were along for the ride..they didn`t write shit...they played along with stuff that had already been written and they should have been greateful..musicians know ...stupid youtube people don`t ...myself included..haahhhahha
@lapdogwilly along for the ride? they were full time members of the group you pinhead. both of them seem a lot nicer and down-to-earth than morrissey.
I feel honored to be a fan of The Smiths...and a little bit sad as well. I don't think this great band will ever re-form and that is tragic. Criminal, really! I think they had the potential to be as big a group as U2 are. Johnny might be up to some sort of reunion (call it the "Morrissey-Marr project) but it just wouldn't be the same. Wow, I am really bummed out now. However, on the bright side, we will always have the albums and the b-sides. And...it never hurts to dream, right....?
Johnny Rogan obviously thinks it's volume of sales that counts when it comes to becoming the most important band ever.I'm sure he thinks Mc Donalds makes th best food in the world.
Although I do tend to agree with Peely it's all subjective, and just because I think they've been one of the most influencial bands around it doesn't mean everyone else will !
I didn't like the silly cartoon parts, not where Reeves said that Morrissey rarely gives interviews, as though to make him sound snobbish or something. Other than that it was interesting to watch :)
Loads of people care about Gannon,he's done miles more than just being in the Smiths. He gets slagged off just because he had the guts to stand up for himself and get what he was owed.
what the fuck is that ending about !? Morrissey as a posh L.A starlet just for not "giving interviews" !? god... Anyway, thanks a lot for uploading this !!!
Hello Boydchenko. I don't think you know anything about the music industry. Songwriting royalties and performance royalties are seperate. Songwriting royalties are divided between the songwriters(Morrissey, Marr), performance royalties(playing on records and at concerts etc.) are divided equally between band members. There are 4 Smiths: therefore 25% performance royalties each. Joyce and Roarke fucked up when they didn't sign the Rough Trade contract at the beginning.
Joyce realized his mistake(when he saw that they were only getting 10%) and took action. Can you blame him???? I love Morrissey but he should stop being a dink! Marr payed up so why can't he?
Sorry ninelivecat but your talking complete bollocks!!! Joyce & O'Rourke were nothing more than the 'drummer' & the 'bassist', in the group. Marr & Morrissey wrote ALL the songs, therefor, are entitled to the lions share. The other two did fcuk all as to composing rights, but they were awarded 25% each??? Robbing bastards...No wonder we won't ever see a reunion..........
You're wrong buddy !! It's performing rights they won 25% of not royalties for writing the songs! Which is fair and to call them just the bass player and drummer is a bit harsh !
Why do these documentaries always over-egg the court cases after the split. I want to hear more of the songs because that's what the band were all about. I do think that Bruce and Rick deserve to be paid properly though and it's clear that a great band were disabled by bad management (or lack of) and it's a shame that it ended when it did. But what a ride though..:)
Great documentary. I don't see why people have a problem with Rourke and Joyce wanting their missing 15% each from the performance(ie recording sales royalties) and their gig money. One of the greatest bands ever.
Does anyone else find it terribly sad whenever you see and hear Andy Rourke speak? He seems like such a tragic figure...this definitely explains why he moved to L.A. Very interesting documentary; it would have been better if there Moz was a part of it though...Let's hope for a reunion when they are inducted into the Hall of Fame...
morrissey and marr got all the song publishing royalties (50/50)that's really where all the money's at...Joyce and Rourke only wanted an equal share of recording and performing pay...to deny them that is pretty stingy verging on insulting.
Agree completely Andy and Mike where the Rythym section of The Smiths, not just session musicians and deserved a fairer share of the Non Royalty earnings It's a shame things ended so Bitterly for The Smiths I love Morrissey's solo music and maybe that's what he always wanted but it's not in the same league as the material he recorded with Johnny Marr
Thank you for uploading this... But what a load of HORSE SH!T! Mike Joyce is an evil man and the people who put this thing together are only serving to obscure the truth about the court case and the money Joyce stole from the rest of The Smiths... Even poor brain dead Andy. Awful.

Did Rourke write his own bass lines or did Marr tell him what to play? because if he did he deserves alot more than 10%.

@blockleg. Agreed. Rourke was worth more than 10% to The Smiths, especially on the Meat is Murder album.

watch it again and get your facts right.Morrissey and Marr got 100% of composing rights.
For performing ,which the four of them did together, you would expect them to get 25% each but the share of that was 40 40 10 10.
