Since I am a trusted developer and have in the meantime opened the source to The Outcast, I believe anyone can do it safely. Besides I also switched my development completely to "Yet Another Tibia Client", developed as a part of OpenTibia project. And you can see the code to check for yourself.
"Besides, connecting to their servers with this client is not legal anyway (by their "Tibia rules", not by any other law)". They forbid it by section 3D). When I have asked them, they have "promised" to ban anyone using Outcast on THEIR servers. That isn't a reason not to use it elsewhere.
I don't understand the point of using an alternative client? I understand people editing their client skins and such, but a completely different client? Unless it has something amazing which I can't see on this video or haven't heard about, it's not worth risking the .exe download.
I fully understand your concerns; I would not risk it either. Yet if you observe Outcast's communication on a "safe" machine, you'll see it only connects to the server you entered, not to anything mine. Besides, you can have guarantees from last 2 years of development without any hack incident.
If nothing else, Outcast will work better on Linux. Tibia doesn't work well on Linux. Outcast has sounds. Also Outcast will be open for suggestions, unlike Cipsoft's client. I just need to make it a bit more stable, and then I'll go on with adding new features.
Do you have any knowledge on what copyright law is? You cannot copyright a method. Protocol is a method. Methods are patentable. Software patents are illegal in EU. That means Cipsoft can't patent their protocol. That means it's completely legal.
Go and inform yourself. OT is legal, and there's plenty of discussions on why it is so. Outcast is legal for same reasons.
They won't be able to since the graphics will be replaced. Besides connecting to their servers with this client is not legal anyway (by their "Tibia rules", not by any other law -- they didn't even write a proper licence agreement that forbids that). If they still insist, I'll require them to tell me a reason to shut down and will instead comply with that reason. They can't claim copyright to my code, and software patents do not exist in Europe.
what an idiot would download client and enter there password...i don't say its hax but ppl don't know it's turtly safe to play it

Let's remember that Tibia ripped off Ultima 6/7 which was copyrighted at that time. We can always bring that up if they ever threaten you :)
MWAHAHHAHA - No seriously, you can.

Thing is, I do NOT distribute the copyrighted graphics -- it's up to users to copy Tibia.SPR to Outcast's folder ;)

It might be legal and all that, but I'm pretty sure if CIP caughts you using it, you can kiss your account bye bye :P
