I have been using cloth bags to shop since 1968 when I lived in Europe and they didn't even have paper or plastic - you had to bring your own bags to even the largest "super-markets'. Half my clothes are from thrift stores, I recycle more than goes into the landfill. I re-use a stupid plastic spoon until it breaks. Only wash my towel once a month. We use only 100 gallons of water/day when average Americans use 350-400 per household. But my best solution - not having kids!

I unhooked the plumbing under the sink & carry buckets of water to the garden. I use baking soda, vinegar, & castile soap for cleaning. this series is great, but i think it attempts to address too many issues all in one go, and ends up over simplifying a lot of them. this works fine for the people who are already aware of these issues, but that's not really the target audience, is it? the people who are ignorant of the issues hear a whole bunch of ideas they've been told are "left wing" or "liberal" or "hippie" or "communist" or whatever, and they immediately close down instead of actually learning and forming their own opinion
its simple and interesting enough to hold the attention span of those who might be otherwise disinterested and unaware. How much smoke in parts per million from this burning plastic do animals need to breathe to get cancer? I don't know either. Go back to materials that decomposed easily like paper bags but instead of made from trees, made from hemp. These containers would easily decompose into compost! I have been using cloth bags to shop since 1968 when I lived in Europe and they didn't even have paper or plastic - you had to bring your own bags to even the largest "super-markets'. Half my clothes are from thrift stores, I recycle more than goes into the landfill. I re-use a stupid plastic spoon until it breaks. Only wash my towel once a month. We use only 100 gallons of water/day when average Americans use 350-400 per household. But my best solution - not having kids!

I unhooked the plumbing under the sink & carry buckets of water to the garden. I use baking soda, vinegar, & castile soap for cleaning. I don't shower in the water here because it has a commercial swimming pool chlorine chlorine in it. I use 1 gal glass jugs to burn the chlorine off for cooking use. Shalom

Everything pollutes. If Humans wouldn't exist there would be pollution. Earth is a marvel because it can deal with this pollution by creating stability and sustainability. Ex volcanoes emits CO2 but Plants retransformes it in O2. The big problem is we chop trees and emit billions of tons of CO2. Our planet never had the time to adapt. By reducing the amounts of cows, and fossil energy we could simply save this planet. We have the technology. All we need is the USA to make something about it.

this series is great, but i think it attempts to address too many issues all in one go, and ends up over simplifying a lot of them. this works fine for the people who are already aware of these issues, but that's not really the target audience, is it? the people who are ignorant of the issues hear a whole bunch of ideas they've been told are "left wing" or "liberal" or "hippie" or "communist" or whatever, and they immediately close down instead of actually learning and forming their own opinion

It's possible, and most likely inevitable, but not really something we can easily comprehend or even conceptualize right now without butting into our current day mental roadblocks- since we'd have to imagine a completely new way of thinking and being that would seem alien to us. To answer your question, why would we work, well, we'd work for a lot of reasons, but most likely we'd work so we could survive- as we do now.

Not true....mercury in the 'eco'friendly bulbs is rather high. The only reason they want us to use them is to cut home consumption so it can be used other places.

man.. they should be showing this to american children in schools.. im british and have been living green for along time.. fixing my own stuff and despite my mother being a lectrer in fashion. have always shopped smart. ppl need to get their heads out of their nike trainer wearing asses and start to do something possitive.. get off your ps3's and get out to the garden and grow some veggies, take a class to brighten your future.. just do something good ffs!!!!
