Though I favor gun control I also want good law abiding citizens the right to bear arms though only a small handgun, and/or a knife should be permitted. because sometimes the police are too far away, or you need instant protection. especially if you are in a rural, or isolated area. If civilians can make arrests on people they believe has committed a offense, then they should also be allowed to carry a weapon. (wearing a belt sometimes does not work). also the president is a civilian who is CIC.

I think people should get their minds thinking about why the right to bear arms was made a part of the U.S. Constitution. The United States was in a war with Britain and obviously with enemy soldiers around and militia units forming the core of the continental army the right to bear arms was needed to fight the enemy. the United states is not in a war at the same level of the American revolution. there is plenty of soldiers, and police officers with training, and a benefit to carry arms.
