This march ia composed by Finnish warrant officer Erik Erikson, Originally known as "Kaartin paraatimarssi". Russian Tsar Nikolai I (Finland under russia at that moment) gave the composition to prussian king Fredrik Wilhelm III in 1837 for his armies march collections as an infantrie's parademarch by the name "Marsch aus Petersburg", because he liked it so much. Source: Finnish military history
Hahahahah russian ?????? This music is so german. Not for one second sounding "russian". Russian music is relatively poor as compared with germany's one.
Some russin songs were taken from military german music, first because of Catherine II who was german and also due to the preeminence of german culture and music all over Europe.
It is imposible that germany could have "taken" this song from russia. It that time, russia, apart the nobility , was living in the Dark Ages of the Cavemen.
@aronron2727 From times of friendship of the first king of Prussia Frederic and first Emperor of Russia Peter all wives of tsars were Germans, an enormous amount of officers and generals was Germans, the German and austrian sovereigns were shieffes of the Russian regiments. This March is named Sankt-Petersburg and Germans did not feel shy to save his name and march under him.In a 18-19 age of hundred thousands of Germans eloped to Russia from Europe, because life was easier there.
@aronron2727 this is actually Finnish, composer was a Finnish NCO serving in the Finnish Guard, apparently it became popular in Russian army, or maybe it was the Czar himself who took liking of it, either way Russians apparently renamed it and Prussians adopted it thinking it was an original Russian march.
I never knew the Prussians stole this from the Russians. Ironic. Every time I hear it, I have this irresistible urge to launch Operation Barbarossa II.
@shaneu1 to be precise, this was originally composed by an NCO of Finnish Guard, known as "Suomi-Marssi", Finland-March, apparently Czar liked it and introduced it to Prussians who adopted it as "Marsch aus Petersburg "
@shaneu1 in other words, composer was a Finnish NCO from Finnish Guard, for some reason or another it became popular in St Petersburgh, then capital of Russian Empire, apparently some general, or maybe even the king of Prussia, took liking of the march after hearing it in St Petersburgh, and introduced it in Prussia as Marsch aus Petersburg.

@21jumppp The USA is falling? Remember that 1/3 of the Greece bailout which is the EU problem, comes from the taxpayers in the USA. Now maybe the Americans are stupid to help us out, and in this case I think they are. Giving us spoiled European money to continue expanding our wellfare state. The EU is not as strong as it seems, and Greece is showing us that, its laws has failed, its willpower is nothing. The European Union has no will, we are weaklings, we got no honor. Remember Yugoslavia?
@killerbee2k turkish are subhumans anyway. about 1/3 of greek helpmoney coming from us, please give a source. for what i heard, germany pays about 1/3. but who cares about that anyway. i agree that its our politicians who are the problem. and the zionist-banks and media. about multicultural, if you multi your culture with the wrong additional cultures, your land is fucked. i had no problem to enrich europes culture with chinese or russians, some blacks are ok too.

@killerbee2k but if you have multicultural state with all this non-ambitional subhumans, which does not give anythingh back, no inventions nothing, your land is fucked. so that is somehow in another way americas problem. you see, i like mexicans and that southamerican tribes. but they were technological way behind europeans. so europe was developing, while usa could exchange with these backwarded cultures and import cultures with less grade of civilization.doesnt bring a land forward.
@redsaxophone The military has (or had) a great influence in German history and culture, especially in Prussia virtues like discipline and honour were the most important.
After WW2, the Germans have cast off most of their military tradition, I personally think it is a pity.
Seeckt.
I am a musician. I have played guitar since 65 when I first saw the Beatles. It never fails to amaze me how non musicians can make value judgements on music or musicians. Harsh? What does that mean? Like Black Sabbath ? Or like Radetzky march? What is Austrian? Their national anthem was "Deutschland Uber Alles? for many years. Each empire(Austria and Prussia) Thought "THEY" were the real Germany. Just wondering....what you mean.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Austrian anthem was never "Deutschland über alles" That is the jingoistic lyrics the Germans added to the tune of the Austrian Imperial anthemn when they adopted it as their national anthemn after WWI.
@alofelge12 Gibt keinen Grund dazu..
Originally March of Honour of the Life-Guard 3rd Finnish Rifle Battalion of the Russian Imperial army. It dates to year 1829 and was composer by a finn called Erik Eriksson. Prussian Crown Prince went to visit Nicholas I of Russia in 1837 and heard this march while in Krasnoje Selo. He liked it so much, that the emperor decided to present it to him and so it was brought to Prussia and added to the Prusssian march collection as "Marsch aus Petersburg / Petersburger Marsch"
Because the march comes from St. Petersburg. It was a favourite march of Wilhelm III who brought it from there and introduced it to the Prussian Military.
Beside this both nations, Russia and Germany, share lots of marches due to historical connections in the past prior the 2. WW.
Don't forget The last Tzar and Kaiser were cousins..
Yes, Germany and Russia had many connections, Prussia, Russia(look the name, similar), the germans read much books written by russian writers, like Dostoievsky and Tolstoi.
Well, "Prussia" and "Russia" are not etymologically related, despite the apparent similarity. The name "Prussia" goes back to the tribe of the "Prußen", whereas "Russia" is derived from the Kievan Rus, a medieval state founded by Swedeish Vikings in modern-day Ukraine.
@felixdeus so was the king of england. The Tsar of Russia (Nicolas II), the Kaiser of Germany (Wilhelm III), and King of England were all FIRST cousins. and if you look it up there is an awe inspiring picture of these boys together playing with toy soldiers... it's divine humor.
Russia imported a lot of german culture. Still today there are hundreds of german words in the russian language. Generations of rulers, imported from germany, brought them with them. Why shouldn't german rulers have imported russian culture in the other way, too? Anyway those high aristocracy until mid 19th century did not feel much nationalism. They felt to be a huge family all-over the continent!
@ArturoAlejandroS it's a russian city with heavy german influence. it was called St. Petersbourg, then the communists changed it to leningrad to make it russian, but in truth the city was built from scratch by Peter the Great of Russia who was a great admirer of the western ways, specifically the Germans (or the germanic peoples since there was no germany to speak of per se).
Hmmm... where is Peterburg again? I do not know, but it might well be originally a Russian march. Popular also in Finland, but with a different name. Supposedly Emperor Wilhelm II's favourite march.

Prussian and German marches are great,
I like he Austrian marches a little better. They have more of a musical content and are less harsh.

But as the name says this one is from Russia.
It was brought to Germany. Call it cultural exchange

The Austrian anthem was never "Deutschland über alles" That is the jingoistic lyrics the Germans added to the tune of the Austrian Imperial anthemn when they adopted it as their national anthemn after WWI.

Leider.

@alofelge12 Gibt keinen Grund dazu..

Why it is called Petersburger marsch?Saint Petersburg is a russian city
Thanks for reply my comment,.
ArturoAlejandroS 3 years ago
@ArturoAlejandroS
Because the march comes from St. Petersburg. It was a favourite march of Wilhelm III who brought it from there and introduced it to the Prussian Military.
Beside this both nations, Russia and Germany, share lots of marches due to historical connections in the past prior the 2. WW.
Don't forget The last Tzar and Kaiser were cousins..
cheers

felixdeus 3 years ago 7
Yes, Germany and Russia had many connections, Prussia, Russia(look the name, similar), the germans read much books written by russian writers, like Dostoievsky and Tolstoi.
Thanks for your reply.
ArturoAlejandroS 3 years ago 2
Well, "Prussia" and "Russia" are not etymologically related, despite the apparent similarity. The name "Prussia" goes back to the tribe of the "Prußen", whereas "Russia" is derived from the Kievan Rus, a medieval state founded by Swedeish Vikings in modern-day Ukraine.

@felixdeus actually it's from Helsinki, more accurately it's work of an NCO of Finnish Guard

@felixdeus No its to commemorate the German capture of St. Petersburg.

@ArturoAlejandroS
WundertGarNichtsMehr 1 year ago
@ArturoAlejandroS it's a russian city with heavy german influence. it was called St. Petersbourg, then the communists changed it to leningrad to make it russian, but in truth the city was built from scratch by Peter the Great of Russia who was a great admirer of the western ways, specifically the Germans (or the germanic peoples since there was no germany to speak of per se).
