I think what you mean is the “Toasted Skin Syndrome" which would only develop if you have it on your lap for hours and during months and months span. .Look, let me break it down for you. Bad processor, bad ventilation, bad ram, bad graphics card, and too bulky. If you are still using it, do yourself a favor and buy a new lap top.

Any advice for anyone who owns this laptop or plans on getting one get rid of the shiteron(Celeron) processor and replace it with a Pentium 4 mobile with a 400MHz FSB witch it is based off of. The Celeron is the reason this machine runs very slow and hot. A Pentium 4 M runs more cool and and has twice the level 2 cache making it much more faster.

I had one for college for all of five years. Got a lot of use out of it. wasn't the best thing in the world but I had a lot of fun with it. I also had no idea you could add 1 GB of ram to it.

This is a nasty laptop. I remember I bought one like this back in 2005 and my god it was slow, ugly, fat, it was waaaaaaaay to hot could burn your skin really bad.

What a worthless piece of junk. I will never buy another DELL or HP. Thank god I am with ASUS and Apple now.

@HotTriniIndianGirl I think we all can agree that this laptop was a pile of shit. The only thing that made this at all usefull was getting it for cheap...putting a gig of ram in it and never letting it put on my lap. Right now i got an ASUS netbook, and its way more powerfull than that laptop...I know how sad that sounds.

@Dell0304 Hahah no...dells blow and Apple is good for their ipods. If you truly want a good laptop or computer you should look at different brands such as Acer, Asus, Alienware....ect. Apples are overpriced btw.

@Dell0304 Haha look arguing with you is stupid, you obviously love dell products. Look to be honest i had dell laptops and towers and both of them were bad. The service sucks and i got pissed at them. Alienware is the only exception to their lineup but they are expensive. For the price Acer is the best brand besides Asus. I just got an Aspire One for under 500$ with dual core, hd graphics card and 6 gigs of ram. ( upgradeable to 8) And dells better not put in that stupid celeron processor.

@TheNeuman I just HATE acer. They use the cheapest parts. Got an Aspire one, lasted 6 months before HD failure. Then I had it sent for fix, and it came back with an overheating graphics card. I agree, Celeron is a piece of shit.

This laptop can be modified to a Pentium processor. It can be upgraded to 1.25GB ram. It can run Windows 7 with an 80GB drive. I was given a couple of these from a friend to rebuild and donate. Someone will be very grateful to have any laptop at all. Instead of tearing it down, why not take these older systems and rebuild them for those who don't have a laptop at all. Plus we should reuse instead of dump into our landfills. Better for the environment.

i just got one from my granmother (she got a new laptop). Its really slow and only has 30 gigs on it, she got the lowest kind. I have linux installed to it and since I'm not using it for really important things, i guess it gets the job done.

@noideac Yes...it did get the job done. After i installed my 1 gig of ram on it, the laptop ran better although it did get very hot on the bottom. (fan is basically useless) I also ripped the cd/dvd rw from it and put that in a case. Then used that for my netbook. So for the time being it will work. I hated those celeron processors...

I had that pc, my brother sold it for drugs i think... it was a slow piece of shit though... however, i miss its classic black matte finish and general reliability... gotta love windows xp!

nice review! i have been using my inspriron for almost three years and its working fine, not the best. i have upgrade the machine by adding a 1gb stick, i have a video on it if you want to check it out. have you done anything with the battery? the battery only last me 20 minutes, lol.

haha yea i saw yours and i got the 1 gig stick of ram for it also! my battery life isnt that great, out of the wall i get 45 minutes at max.

@bobretard123 haha its dead. Usually i had it plugged into the wall, battery really sucked. When i did have this laptop, which is really far back. I did get some games to play on it. I think my friend got maplestory and runescape to run smoothly. But, Remember This thing gets really hot. I modded the bottom of mine because the fan did absolutely nothing.
