  • Is it legal to carry a 5 1/2 inch manual folding knife in Columbia South Carolina/Irmo?

  • I'm not knocking this knife because I do like it but my Ontario Gen II SP50 could do this and better and it's not even my favorite!

  • LEt me tell ya.... my axe would ccut that log a lot quicker and easier!!!!!!

  • That is a sweet blade

  • good looking knife, but it is not actually a bowie style. that's the only criticism that I can give without trying it myself.

  • A Steal ,pun intended. at any price, Beautiful forge work, and finish.

  • The Frank Bowie looks like a beast! I need one! Thanks for the video review, cheers!!!

  • You made your son's day. He'll remember that moment for life!

  • Nice looking blade.

When is he going to have a "depression" sale so us poor folk can afford one, lol.

  • That is one hell of a beautiful peice of metal. Lust has reared it's ugly head!

  • Looks like a pile of garbage.

Finish looks like he shaped it with an angle grinder then took it straight to the buffer. Handle gives you one holding option. The thick edge looks to give it as much bite as a toothless chihuahua. The steel is scrap, that even when new, was only held to the quality level of a car spring. Then heat treated by guessing the temperatures?

$150? Thanks but no thanks. That's double what it's worth.

  • this video definitely merits a subscription but what type of grind is that?i wanna say scandi...

  • I have no idea how i came across this video. But I'm thankful I did lol

  • stupid eropean laws and ideology

a kind sort of ideology, but also a bit to fagish in some cases

what i mean with that, no good familymember or friend is ever gonna give youthings like a knife, even if it is like a multi-tool, like this

  • nice vid

  • It looks chrome, is it? You could flag down a rescue chopper with it.

  • @carmas54 How did you find that out? I just received mine bout a week ago. There is a waiting list .

  • @mcafee1971 ... Sorry about that I meant another knife, not the Frank Bowie, I have two of those...great knife.

  • why don't you just use an Axe ? i think inside every one of we know it s not only for cutting wood . God bless the whole world

  • I'll tell you what, I want one of those knives.

  • how much did the frank bowie cost? please answer soon!

  • @levaslevas about $150, look it up on the website in the description.

  • Thanks for the great review Scootch

  • excellent.

  • *cough cough* Emile!!*cough cough*

  • Bear Grylls needs one of those

  • ginourmous just got a new meaning

  • oh forget it their was the kukri i just puased when i saw the irst knife then commented

  • it looked like a kukri in the picture to me on the side so i clicked to then find out i was a bowie well i guess i should of read the title but nice knife

  • Now, thats a knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dear santa.....

  • @36drifterboy hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! Tell him to grab one for me too!!!! Thanks!!!

  • damn nice tang

  • Good dad man!

  • U could blind someone with that thing lol

  • dude i love your videos

  • any cookery classes?

  • looks like a real piece of shit.

  • Khukuri knives are the most ugly damn knives ever but this knife isn't as stupid looking because it's not so blade tip heavy looking. It doesn't chop great to me and I'm not impressed,no money from me sorry, and what kind of acid trip music is this crap,it's terrible.

  • @blitzspeer I feel as though that they are an acquired taste.

  • Have you thought of a corrosion resistant coating as an option? Since they are work knives. Would help the maintenance of the knife.

  • @JimmieGuy1 Yes, for next year. I personally gun blue mine.

  • @frankgon4

Try Black - T it's a protective coating I'm getting on my knives as soon as I get home. A few guys I know swear by it.

  • @JimmieGuy1 I viewed there home website and it appears you have to send them your part to be coated. I am guessing it is about $80 added on to the price of the knife and an extended wait time for customers if I have to wait on them. Does not appear that it would be good for my business with the added cost and added turn around time. Before you send them your knife, check with them so that your handle is not damaged as it involve an oven.

  • @frankgon4 Would you be able to not assemble the handle before shipping just in case?

  • @JimmieGuy1 The information was for you if you send in your knife. Ask before you send your knife about there process. I assume your knife already has a handle.

Yes, I could assemble ( epoxy , pin, sand,) the handle afterwards. As stated, the price is too high for me to consider as a business not to mention added turn around time.

  • @frankgon4 Ya Frank I thing your knife will be replacing my Columbia River SS7 really soon.

  • Check out Khukuri Palace. He is not really making them himself, it seems. Keep us posted. Philipp

  • @Rasenkrieger Phillip, you have made a false assumption. I have no dealings with Khukuri Palace. I am aware that they have "borrowed" my design. I do not advertise this. I would greatly appreciate you remove this statement as it is FALSE. You have it in writing. I do not have any dealings or received any monies or otherwise from Khukuri Palace. This type of assumed statement border on slander. Please remove your statement.

  • this knife is used in pornos

  • Type of steel?

  • @SENGVIN 5160 - Leaf spring from trucks. I should check this video more often. apologies for the late reply.

  • Holy thick blade!

  • nice work

you need to make in with stag

  • @MrJapaneseboy1111 I have considered this. It is difficult and expensive to get stag that is large enough for the handle. I cannot get it in large quantities and so could not offer it as a normal item.

  • @frankgon4 you need a sheath like

    "hedgehog leather works"

and to make the handel a bit more "frontier"style

    not necessarily stag

google "felix francisco knife" its can give you some good ideas

i was looking for a combination between a "tom brown" and a "kukri knife" and i think you did a good job

i dont think that your perpuse should be a "reasonable price" there are alot of people who will pay up to 600$ for a good knife

    with a nice sheath

    from 1 to 10

    7

  • @MrJapaneseboy1111 Hedgehog Leatherworks sheath, sure for another $200 on top of the price. Not really going for frontier style, I will leave that to others, Felix Franciso knife - Handle is a weaker and prettier design. It leans toward rat tail tang which is easier to make pretty. I don't do pretty knives. There are many others better at "pretty" than myself. I am aiming toward those that cannot afford a $600 knife such as Viking Knives. JIm is excellent and I can hook you up.

  • @frankgon4 Additionally: I sell mostly to active hunters and survivalists. These people value ability over pretty. These people actually use the knife for it's intended purpose and not display. I do not aim toward the collector. If you want a one of a kind knife too pretty to use, but well made with mammoth tusk, I can recommend a knife maker.

    regards,

    Frank

  • 02:25 come on man put some strength behind that.........you hit like a girl

  • HAS NAYONE SEEN HIS "REDEMPTION" KNIFE. iT IS THE MOST AMAZING BEAST OF A KNIFE. THIS KNIFE CHANGES EVERYTHING. THE ONLY THING IS THE PRICE = $330 WITH SHIPPING. STILL I WILL SAVE UP FOR THIS KNIFE. I WANT, IT THEN I CAN DIE A HAPPY MAN !

  • if i could only afford one.. ive been saving up for a custom knife for a while.. but right now i have and carry tow types of knives. and Ontario SP-10 Marine raider, a very hefty blade made for chopping. and a fighting bowie, handmade out of high carbon steel, perfectly balanced at the crossguard brass fittings modeled after the origional bowie knife, a beautiful knife. its always important to have more than one knife for a certain purpose, but they have to be able to do eachothers roles!

  • @sootch00 is this knife avialabe for spain?

  • @B1oz Yes, I can make it for Spain, but it would be expensive to ship.

  • thanks to your review ,i placed my order last month and recently recieved my very own frank bowie. it is indeed an awesome knife. it came in 3 days and frank was so professional throughout the whole process. i am just itchin to use this when i go home to guam. look out jungle here i come.

  • Copy oF Khukuri :)

  • Wow that custom is beautiful! The spine would work great on a flint rod too..how do these perform compared to the kabar and cold steel lookalikes?

  • When I served in the army last year I used the kukri

  • @volumesk8 Thank You for your service. Kukri blades are excellent tools.

  • I have a few similar blades to the frank bowie.

Not as good as an arced blade such as a KHK khukri or even a cold steel bushman.

The Frank's forward angle wastes a-lot of energy and is less ergonomic than a true Khukri.

The looks of the Khukri -ified version of the Tom Brown tracker is what Cocodile Dundee would say

" That's not a knife... Now this is a KNIFE!"

  • You're a good dad. Keep on with these great videos! I'd love to have a knife like that one.

    God bless!

  • To me a Bowie is a purpose built tool of death. That knife is a work blade.

Esee junglas, the CS Trailmaster and similar blades are large survival blades. This is just my opinion. If it's a fighting knife, than it needs guards and catches.

  • @Wabaanimkii You are correct, I did not design it to be a fighting knife. That was never my intent. I designed it for a Bush Knife for survival. Fighting knives should be double edged and more straight. You really cant baton a double edged knife very well.

    regards,

    Frank

  • I bought my Khukuri from Frank andhe was one of the nicest people I have ever delt with,he even called me latter on to make sure I was happy with it! Not to mention I recieved it 3 days from my order THATS SERVICE!!!!

  • Rodent Waki.

  • man i am sooo jealous of seth getting that knife

  • @texicanhunter It doesn't bother me at all that they are made to kill... in fact I love me some deer meat. I just don't believe in calling it a tool due to the fear of anti-gun people passing anti-gun laws. I have no issue with the term, mainly just the fact it seems like a fear driven response.

  • amazing blade. like a cross between a tom brown tracker and kukri. it's brilliant

  • @thedefinitive Thank you. It went through 7 design changes and 9 months of testing.

  • @frankgon4 Looks like it was well worth it. My only regret is that I don't have the disposable income to afford one right now lol

  • @thedefinitive I completely understand. Maybe one of your friends can buy you one for Christmas.

  • @frankgon4 Well hopefully I can stop being broke before then and get it as my birthday gift haha

  • I just found your channel today. Great content. Interesting that I should see this video as I've been working on a similar design in my "spare" time. My version is a bit shorter in the blade with a longer handle as I've designed it to accompany me into the backcountry. I've been posting vids of my progress on my channel.

Keep it up. Take care, and God bless.

  • @PrepPro2717 I am curious about your design. You are going with a longer handle and shorter blade? I assume for leverage? I will check out your videos.

  • A knife that thick should really have a convex grind, that saber grind is going to keep binding, thats why it didn't make much progress through that pressure treated wood compared to a thin machete, if the grind was different it would be a greater chopper

  • @Eso1 It is really a beautifal knife though!!, i just really like to bite deep into wood when chopping

  • HOLY CRAP!!

  • this is nothing like the tracker. it actually looks useful.

  • @Urudrim Thank you.

  • That's truly an impressive knife and sheath. Very innovative design. And the part at the end where you passed it to your son was priceless. Stellar video. I made a similar style bush blade recently myself and made some videos.

  • @envirosponsible I wold like to see it.

  • i choose zombie killin lol =]

  • Now that's a great knoife! ;-)

All it's missing is a lanyard hole for added safety.

  • Great looking blade. Question, how does one go about putting a edge back on that kind of blade?

  • Hey, what do you use to sharpen your knives?

  • @AirsoftVeteran96 I use a ceramic rod . It is small light and easy to carry.

  • Great gift. There is nothing more rewarding to a son than to get a gift like that from a dad.

  • I have my Frank Bowie and I cant say enough about it to tell you how great it is.

  • Great video, but the best part was the ending. My father and I are both Eagle scouts, but I was just a green Tenderfoot when he gave me MY first nice knife, a Gerber Gator. I still have it to this day, and watching little Sooch's face when he got that knife made me remember how I felt when Dad gave me that Gerber. Good times, great video.

  • @frankgon4 Really looking forward to receiving my Standard Frank Bowie ... Put a little extra TLC in mine Frank ... :o) ... Tim Smith

  • It's people like Sootch who I would want to buy a beer.

  • Fantastic knife! I might pick one up. I don't know if I'd use it though; my main knife for years has been my Air force survival knife. (I was a jump master in the army and used it.) Itd probably spend more time on a shelf than I'd like. What do you think Sootch?

  • Man,Sootch, you and Nutn going to make me go bankrupt. Especially with such a wonderful looking blade as this. Keep up the great Work.

  • Now've you done it! You just made him filthy rich! Wish I were the age to purchase one, but alas I am not. But it looks like a jack of all trades to me. At least, if you don't throw the Swiss Army Knife into the equation.

  • @SamPD2 LOL, well your half right.

  • @frankgon4 Whaddya mean I am half right?

  • @SamPD2 You said he made me filthy and rich. I am not rich and I have been working extra hard lately so lets go with filthy. :)

  • Just had to watch it one more time to see litle Sootches face when you told him that it´s his knife .

  • Anyone who buys quality gear knows that this is a GREAT deal.Just think a hundred years ago a good knife cost what you made in 2 or 3 days of work, that is still the case.

  • god what is that song i want it so bad haha

  • I really like the blade design on that knife. That knife would come in handy in my backyard too for some general clearing. Great review , keep them coming!

  • since that blade is about 12 inches that would make you roughly six feet tall am I correct?

  • Any idea what it weighs?

  • @jrpd373 Which one? The 3Chirra or the Frank Bowie?

  • @frankgon4

    The Frank Bowie.

  • @jrpd373 At 2:11 provides blade length. At 2:38 displays 21 ounces.at the top right of the video.

  • Great videos, great review, great knifes and great family!

    Self-responsability ever!

  • If you buy this make sure that you can sharpen the blade its not easy in that shape

  • I fucking love your vids.. Keep it up!

  • I would consider buying this knife, but since you said only 4 are made a year, I am thinking there is going to be a long back order after this review.

  • @neanderthor66 about 3 or 4 per month ... not year

  • @neanderthor66 I make about 4 of these a month not year.

I do some other knives not listed for locals as well. Keeps me busy.

  • Sootch I respect your opinion but I do all that and feel well armed with my cold steel riflemans hawk and trail bowie knife.

  • Great review brother if you get a chance check out CHRIS CAINES SURVIVAL TOOL he has some videos up if your loving big working knives.

  • HOLY DANG!....that's beautiful. Careful not to take ur hand off chopping that wood hahahaha

  • Thanks for turning us onto this knife Sooch00. My CMP Garand "savings account" was just reduced by a couple Franklin's thanks to you.. :). I ordered the "Frank Bowie with Mincher Steel Guard and Pommel"...Got one of the last ones already made, so I'll see it next week!

  • around 2:20 i thought you were gunna slice yourself on the big knife. Got awful close to it. lol. great vid

  • Awesome knife! And I really love the sheath!

  • Really nice knife, but that price is amazing on a hand crafted knife. It's almost impossible to find a good hand crafted survival knife for under $300.

  • nice knife Frank

  • what type of steel does the knife feature?

  • @JesterSkywalker 5160 Leaf Spring

  • great review and really cool seeing the smile on the kids face!

  • Now thats a knife.

  • SOOTCHMASTER 5000!!!!

  • Really dad. Lol priceless ! Like a kid in the candy shop. Great vid and that's one sexy blade.

  • Your kids expression was priceless. Great looking knife. Hopefully he'll let you borrow it sometime.

  • Pressure treated wood is not joke cutting through.

  • Sootch is doin' work!

  • That was cool!

    ~Les

  • First of all that is one real pretty blade, second have you ever used a real machette not the one they sell at walmart but a real one i suggest you get a hold of an ontario knife brand machette the 18" model you will be impressed with how much work can be done with little effort with a good quality sharp machette and they only run around $20.

  • @tb91506 I've used the Ontario Knife Machette and there is no comparison. It's fine but not in the same ball park. Thanks~

  • @tb91506 u can cut fruits and meats with a potato knife too , but from the moment u buy a true chef knife and tried that for all those tasks , u'll never go back to that potato knife and then price doesn't matter , and i myself believe in custom knives being very suitable for use , custom knives have been made with more detail in the making process while production knives are mass made , and when broken just be replaced, good/custom knives are almost always for lifetime use !

  • I must say, Sootch, excellent review, great looking knife, but giving it to your son at the end of the video and seeing his expression -- PRICELESS!!

  • THAT tang doesn't contain Vitamin C!

  • great knife but there are better tools for clearing

  • Now thats a noice knoife! :P

  • What a great community, and what a great surprise for Sootch! Oh yeah, and what a great knife!

  • I like this blade. I also want another Legend Of Zelda sword too because they made it a beautiful Medevil looking. If I get this and that I'll happy as hell lol

  • That is one heck of a knife and sheath. I would love to get one of those for myself. Thanks for sharing, Sootch Jr.....LOL

  • @awomansworld123 I want to see your review! Lol! I believe you could handle it with no problem. Thanks ~ Sootch

  • My father told many stories about the Gurkha he served with during the Italian campaign in WW 2, using the same type of knife to dispatch many German soldiers and put the fear of god in them, still got some old pictures. The knife is functional with an intimidation factor as well...

  • Forget pocket knives LOL

  • If you could have only one survival knife is this the one you would recommend ? It looks like a high quality knife and well made but is it your top choice for all survival situations

  • @00buck45013 It's great for both field/ utility use and fighting. The thrusting and chopping capabilities are excellent. I'm looking at my other knives and saying why? The quality is far superior to anything else I have and now that my son has it.... Looks like I'll be buying another. Thanks~

  • What a beautiful knife. I just picked up a Grayman Warrior knife and it looks like the one i bought but yours is polished and it looks to be a little bigger. I did a small review on it. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Waverip11 I viewed the Grayman Warrior blade. It is a very nice blade. You are correct in that it is shorter. Looks to be about 1.5 inches shorter. One difference I see is that the Grayman Warrior Blade is a straight blade. You can draw a straght line along the spine from the handle to the tip. The Grayman Warrior has a large curved belly giving the appearance of a forward curved blade. It has an interesting edge. I look forward to your review of this knife.

  • @frankgon4 well i just have a tabletop review and will be taking it outdoors this week to test it. Thanks for commenting.

  • @Waverip11 I will look for it. I am curious about this edge. It is ground on one side only. I would like to see how it chops, batons, etc.

  • Looks like you have a great kid there. It is always great to see their face light up when you give them something worthwhile that will last them a lifetime and provide great memories for both of you. You are obviously a good father.. Kudos to you.

  • @MacheteMenacho The Khukuri at the beginning is from the Khukuri House in Nepal. They are hand forged from truck bed leaf springs and super strong carbin steel. The Frank Bowie is made in Texas and also hand forged carbon steel. Thanks~ Sootch00

  • ohh sootch, you realise you just made some knife maker a millionaire

  • Great looking knife... Well made...

  • Love the suprise ending! That is one lucky kid!

  • Beautiful

  • I would say that Seth's face said it all. What a great knife. Thanks for the review. Now, could you speak to my wife about how much I really NEED this knife? :)

  • your khukuri is completely awesome.

  • Great ending sootch!!

  • Kukri rocks, but that bowie seems rediculous. Way too thick. Seems junky and clumsy.

  • Bowie knives are illegal in my state (AL). Pretty funny that they are illegal, yet we're an open carry state.
