Hey, about a month ago I was playing single stroke rolls with double kick easily about 180 beats per minute (16 notes). I now sit down and my feet seize up when I go any higher than 110 bpm. :/ Help?? Haha I don't know whats up with me... Have you ever had this problem?
well man its official... imo the best sounding drums on youtube... il be micing my kit soon.. i have a little knowledge of sound tec etc so my goal is to have a similar sound to you.. great job man :)
Dude awesome drumming but one thing man u gotta move with the beat cause u just sit in that one spot and it makes it look lame. Ur a great drummer don't get me wronge but u just gotta move with it a lil man
They are a variety of Shure mics (PG series on toms, snare, bass drum) with some Oktava MC-102 mics for overheads. I do a lot of mixing once it's been layed down. I have a degree in music and sound tech, so it comes in handy when trying to create high quality audio!
Hey im not trying to be a bother but im trying to record my metal band what should i use for drums? I have around 400 or 500 dollar budget. I have a 7 peice kit and 8 cymbals. Thanks!
@louistotalcontrol Nice vid! I'm glad I came across you. Is drum replacement relatively easy then? I'm looking at doing it too & just wondered what it's like using drum replacement software? Thanks!
the bassdrum sounds like a trigger sample and i guess it is, but this is probably one of the best drum recordings one youtube that is not a song of a band :D but the playing is damn simple to me
dude my bassdrum dont even have a mic and its the same sound depend the way you tune it and what head your using and the batter head change the sound too i use iron cobra with the black batter that come with the kit instead of the white one they have more atack and well for the rest its up to how nicely you hit the head there an accual technic and don't put a pillow in the bassdrum that so gay XD
well its a personal choice accualy but me personaly i hate mufling but i got friend that tell me the same thing and i looked at ther bassdrum and i just laugh talking about this yesterday my buddy got a powerstroke 3 so i instaled it for him he was telling me plz dont remove the pillow i said stfu with a big smile then i tuned his bass drum took me 15 min doin both side cuz the other side was too loose and it sounded like cardboard lol and now every hit he does i can feel it in my whole body hah
like rly ther heads like those evan one that have a ring that goes on it and it only remove the resonation but usualy a bass drum should sound good without a pillow if its a good drum haha like the gretch i have the bass drum sound like a fukin thunder lol
@Oriasis not necessarily. A lot of base drums do sound like shit. all you need is a nice resonant head. I perfer Evans Onyx head over anything and an Emad beater side. I dont have a pillow in my drum and it sounds nice. But for recording, not so much haha
its called PRACTICE lol if you try to do it fast you will fail you got to take your time and work it up slowly but remember to stay equal with each hit so it don't sound like rubish lol and don't keep your foot on the other batter while hiting the head it will change the sound of the bassdrum also and or make your batter bounce and you will fuck it up :P so try to remove the batter from the head every time you hit it i seen lots of poeple resting the foot on the pedal this is wrong :P
Triggers are electronic sensors that produce a sound that resembles a bass drum (the bass drum in this video is triggered. So that's one of a few sounds it makes) It can be placed on the head of the bass drum (sensing head vibration) so when you literally tap the bassdrum with your beater, the sensor makes the drum sound like you are hitting it full force. so it goes: tap--->trigger--->speaker.
Thank you lots for the encouraging words, really glad to see you enjoyed my vids and website! I intent to keep making videos so keep your ear close to the ground!

That really doesn't sound like total control to me man... You've gotta get your double bass a lot more consistent.

I record the kit using normal mics, and use drum replacement techniques within a DAW. I use Steven Slate drum samples.

could you tell me how to get a sick sound like that for the bass drum?
i have a small bass drum, both sides of it tuned loose and i have like 2 old sweatshirts in it
ifuwannar0ck 3 years ago
Hi there,
It's taken time to find a good bass drum sound, it can be frustrating trying to get that clicky sound!
I have the front head slightly looser than the beater head, and use an EMAD 2 skin. Inside are two pillows stacked on each other!
When I mix the audio for these videos, sometimes I'll reinforce the sound with drum triggers, as I have done here!
Louis - TCDT
louistotalcontrol 3 years ago
alright ill try it thanks, and by the way, how big is your bass drum? i tihnk mine is a 18x22
