It's funny. I still love watching Sensei Kanazawa, but after a few more years of training, I see now all the little things I didn't see before- the details that make his style incongruent with what I am taught. Still, nobody seems to have flourish like he does and he demonstrates "throwing" the technique unlike anybody else. Still my favorite.

I am a green belt and I know everything including godan. I know some of tekki too, but I still have a lot to learn. As my sensei says you begin to learn after your first dan ;)

I don't wanna be unrespectful but I think that it isn't a ''perfect'' kata , if it exists.

Kanazawa has been one of the best Shotokan sensei but actually his tecniques are not so good, not so powerful. I can say that I've seen a lot of katas better than this, it seem too much weak and powerless for a shotokan kata . Maybe Kanazawa is too much old and tired to doing shotokan , but I think he would do very good performances in Shito-ryu, which require softer tecniques.

well, kanazawa isn't perfect, is he?I'm sure that other karateka might perform this kata more accurately than him on this occasion, but only if they're at the top of the world ranking themselves. look at valdesi, as an obvious example. anyway, it's quite a statement to assume that you, whoever you are, will do better at anything in karate than he does..

Im actually learning this kata right now i only know till the first punch right now but so far i like it it has alot of greta bunkai to it...but at the same time i only started learning this kata today so give me a couple of months to get it the way i want ... and guys seriously Master Kanazawa is a Shotokan Legend if u think u can do this kata better than him ur obivously not doing it right He could most deff kill us with his power he has in KAta id love to be like this one day but i wont ..

LOL - you eggs : ) Kanazawa is one of the few masters to have achieved 10th Dan (the highest rank that can be awarded to a living Shotokan karateka

He is the Chief instructor and President of Shotokan Karate-do International Federation, an organization he himself founded. He has a strudent roster of over 2,000,000 worldwide and hs been described by many masters as the one person closest to achiving perfect technique.

I learned it just the way he does it. But in some other Kata he did change some techniques, compared to the way JKA and IAKF used to do(look at his execution of Bassai Sho and Hangetsu).

I really can't believe that people are saying Kanazawa's Kata is bad. He is one of the highest ranked Karateka in the world, of any ryu. He has achieved more in Karate than any of us are ever likely to, show some respect.

sensei kanazawa knows what he is doing. @spadaydaga: since this is a series of professionally produced video clips, i don't think that there are any mistakes in it. now if sensei kanazawa goes to zenkutsu dachi with morote uke directly after performing jump and kosa dachi with morote uke at 0:48, i assume that he intended to do so. kanazawa is an outstanding karateka who shouldnt have any problems landing in kosa dachi after a jump.

Kanazawa should be about 60 when he made this video. So you have to understand that karate is not about physical skill but about technique. I can also jump a lot better than him, and I'm only 4th kyu. But this doesn't mean that I'm better in karate than him, I just have a better jump. So you can't judge Kanazawa's performance just for his jumping. Look at his stances, his technique, his kime. That's what's important.

I will admit that he does not go low on the jump, but as Elohim08 points out, this COULD be do to his age. It could also be based on his interpretation of the bunkai. (whatever it may be) Either way, his karate is VERY solid. Perfect hip rotation. Great power. I agree with you though. I have seen many sandans, and some kyu grade karatekas, that are far better than many "masters." Kanazawa IS a TRUE master though. He has done so much for Shotokan. I'm sure you agree that he deserves respect.
