I was riding around in a car with a guy who knew Zal. 1968 in NYC. He saw Zal walking and offered to give him a ride, which was up town. I remember Zal was wearing a oversized heavy sweater, and was a nice guy.
I seen John Sebastian live at the Isle of Wight 1970, unless I was hallucinating Zal, the lovin spoonful Guitarist was in the audience and his friends wanted him to join John Sebastian on stage, but don't remember it happening tho.
@narcoleptus this was a good flip side the way the songbooks came out in the us one had a white cover with color pictures of them on stage the other had a fake old time photo of them dressed up in old clothes there is also a john sebastian songbook that has some lovin spoonful songs
In their prime they could blow any group off the stage [notice steve is wearing a motorcycle helmet on the cover one of their songbooks mentioned he was a speed demon,he was injured in a motorcycle accident ] .
When you go to new york city go to mannys music store on 48th street and see a picture of the lovin spoonful on the wall and go to the song writers hall of fame at 42nd street and see the plaque of john sebastion on the wall with the likes of hoegy carmichael ,burt bacharach and brian wilson [two of the best tourist attractions in new york for music fans like you and me
