I've been wondering for a long time exactly how portion of our GNP [exluding advertising agency profits] (or just consumer goods) is spent on advertising.

The business world justifies outsourcing and big box retail by saying it provides a cheaper product. For pennies profit on the dollar, companies will outsource. I wonder how much of that dollar is invested in talking to us. If public adver space is restricted, its fair for all businesses.

Maybe you won't admit it, but I bet that you get hungry when you see advertisements for foods. I know it works on me (luckily though, I don't watch TV).

One of the reasons McDonalds is so big and well known is the advertising itself. That's what turns a big fastfood franchise into a trusted house name.

people have spontaneous attention spans. They see a dicks commercial and they/everyone knows and remembers how a dicks burger tastes, or fries. and they can prob find a dicks close aswell. they prob weren't thinking about going to dicks... but once they see an ad for it they may think - hey!.. i could go for a jr. mcchicken etc. i know that's what i do when i feel a bit peckish and i know a dicks is close.
