i still have a problem, documents folder can be drive mounted, pictures videos music and downloads folder i want as drive mounts, i wish there's a way to do it like what ive done with user\AppData\Local\Temp mounted drive where i also moved my internet temp folder.
hello sir james, update, the way you made a drive partition for games, i just discovered you can make one for your user temp folders which can be really nasty, its a bit tricky, i copied the environmental values and move it to another drive temp folder, then emptied the original folder in the ssd so it would allow mounting a drive partition in the original temp, then putting the environmental values back, so it would return to userAppData\Local\Temp drive, used 40gb and works fine!
Hey... I have two questions for you bro.. which SSD did you purchase (it's 2AM, I might have missed the brand/make you've mentioned if you did) because you're pushing well over 500mbps.
Second question is.. what do you mean about watching what we delete? I have an SSD (not in Raid) and I've easily deleted over 10GB of data already. I've had this SSD running Windows 7 Pro for about 7 months now.
hey man! awesome video! will probably try this if i ever set up a raid array :) but at the moment i'v got 3 WD green disks..i'v pulled em all out of their external cases and put them in my pc..the thing is though..they shut down after alil while..as they would since they are green disks..is there a way to disable that function? cuz it takes a while to start em up so i can play games, watch a movie etc...any ideas? thanks
By the way, I downloaded ATTO and my benchmarks are reading only around 275 and I notice yours is well over 600. Why do you think that is? Let me know man!
Dude..thanks for the great tweaks! I just got my Crucial C300 and loaded Win7 using my Lenovo recovery disks. Unfortunately, recovery cd's did not disable defrag among other things it should have. So I had to do some tweaking of my own with your recommended tweaks.
Can you recommend how I can go about viewing TRIM?
So I ordered my Vertex 2 (may do a Raid-0 ... still deciding) .. with the exception of the raid & partitioning you did, should I do all the same tweaks on my 120 gig Vertex 2 when it arrives? Also, I built a machine for a friend with an Intel X25-M a few months back- should I do these tweaks for that machine as well (again .. with the exception of the raid & partitioning you did?)
Hey James, I just installed Windows 7 on my SSD. Shouldn't I reallocate the directories in the install like Users which contains My Documents, My Videos etc. to a partition on the data drive? Also the temp directories too?
@AndyinPhoenix Wish I would have. Google won't pay me for videos that have music in them. Didn't know that back then. I don't have the raw video anymore unfortunately.
@SirJamesDDJ do i need the intel matrix thing and what do you mean becareful what you delete??? doesnt TRIM take care of all deleteing issues??? how do you clear garbage on the SSD if you get garbage and if garbage space thats is unused but SSD is not letting you use because stuff is deleted please explain :) (i dont use RAID and idk how to get the intel matrix thing for my asus mobo that was specificly built for my PC asus g73jh) please reply hope i didnt confuse you
i just have the onboard sound and i dont know how to turn the page file on or off... im new to this its my first computer build i ran hdtune and its studdering really bad i have 4 patriot warp v2 raid 0 if that helps any
sirjames you the man all i can say is wow i got 3x30gb vertex in raid0 getting 600mb avg reads and 500 avg writes after your masterclass in tweaks i would love to see a video on how to keep these ssd running fast thanks again
He's saying you shouldn't download a ton of crap and delete a lot because the drives slow down the more they accumulate, even with garbage colleciton enabled.
Oh thanks for the correction. I've seen both terms used synonymously so I figured they were the same thing. Is the different that trim runs automatically at the hardware level while GC runs as a program?
Ah you're right. For some reason they're lagging on the turbo editions. However, I do not think it has to be flashed from within windows, most are recommending flashing from a bootable disk. Not sure on this though.
Ah ok, that makes sense. Do you think you can make another video for a non-RAID setup? I am considering purchasing a vertex now and waiting to get another for a RAID 0 setup. I am unsure as to how much different your tweaks would be if only using one SSD.
I just baught an OCZ Vertex 120GB ssd as well and I'm hoping SirJamesDDJ can make a Video for installing it form scratch with tweaks and how to also update the Firmware on the SSD... ALL from scratch please SirJames... we are counting on you :D
I'm probably going to be working on a few new major components for my system as it appears my current M/B is acting up. After, extensive research, I'm probably going to get the OCZ Vertex 60 GB drive.
Your videos look thorough and provide some good tips.
Yeah dude but really one has to take such care of what gets written onto these things. Can't just junk em up like regular HDDs, or performance takes a major hit.
yea ive seen some of what can happen to them if u do it gets just as slow as a normal hdd, the only thing id put on my would be windows 7 and use my other hdds for programs 7 storage
I have a quick question though: with the "Second level cache" at datamanagement, your CPU has L1/L2 4x256and L3 shared cache. My CPU is still an older dualcore (E6600) which only has L1 (32kb per core) and L2 shared (4MB).
Any idea what i should use as size, or should i just keep it at 0?
Great video, thanks for the info! I'm expecting a shipment of 2x Vertexes 30G in the mail tomorrow and was wondering what firmware you'd recommend I flash (1.3, 1.4 or 1.41) to before following your advice in these 2 vids you posted?

What stripe size your using?
I have the Revodrive X2 for only the Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
Also two Vertex 2 in raid-0 stripe 64KB.
The Revodrive X2 has standard 4 drives in raid-0 stripe 64KB but the performance is slower in HD Tune than my Vertex 2 drives.

It's much better now that FW 1.5 has been released for the Turbos.
Not really an issue anymore.
