a) A player takes two or more strides at a player. If you watch Armstrong in this video, he takes a couple strides but stops before the goal line and glides into Koivu behind the net. This is legal, because he in effect "let's up" well before making contact.

b) A player jumps to make a hit. Colby stays on his feet.  Downie's hit on McAmmond was a charge.

Regardless of Souray's defensive prowess you can't say he wasn't one of the Habs best players.
