I am a teen(man) who begin to do ballet, do I have to be that skinny to be a great dancer ? Or they just are skinny like that ?

@TATA123PG Those are chosen boys as in any formal school (In Russia, Cuba, France and other major schools )are. To dance you need to be slim but strong, if you have an athelete's body you may suceed switching to ballet. If you have some fat in your body and have big bones is harder. But i had a student who was very big with over 20kilos around 40lbs) overweight and big boned and he reduced enough weight to get in a national ballet school. so give it a chance. Work hard and harder ;)

I'm in tears I love this video I trained as ballet dancer from 7 to 18 years old. Then I got injured and was forced to quit ballet before a proper stage debut (Now I'm an operatic singer). Those boys are very lucky I'll do anything to get the chance to be a pro dancer again

@banana2510 Just to get you back straight in all posisions, specially when landing from a jump or turning or even to stabilese your body in the air requires quite a strenght in the back. To lift ballerinas of 50 kilos average you need quite a strong shoulders arms chest and back not to mention all of them must have amazin 6packs as most dancers have.

I feel enormously guilty... I'm 18 and after all these years I've never stopped and meditate about the great skill, technique and pasion that all these guys who dance ballet have developed since they were little, a whole life dedicated to a both strong and sweet profession (please do forgive me if thats not the proper word). Shame on those who make fun of such an admirable ability. And please accept my humble congratulation, especially to those who appeared in this video. Greetings from Chile :)

Yes, there are a few schools in the United States; google "Vaganova" to find teachers trained in this method. They are always trained and certified in Russia. Notice that there is a curriculum for every year of training, which prevents most injuries as well.

@PeterPanDancer I train under a certified Royal Academy of Dance instructor and it is very similar training. More about technique, instead of just crazy flexibility and a million turns. The only problem certified RAD teachers are hard to find!
