The MH-6 is a great bird, but stop jerking off to it because it's in use in theater right now...it very rarely gets used... but it's just a tool.

heemmpp: The apache is fucking worthless in both wars. It's a tank-killer, not close air support. Fuck, the 64's attached to 4th ID just hovered over the fuel point for 4 hours and logged it as combat flight time. Give me a Kiowa gunship any day of the week.

the glass on the front of these little birds is it bullet proof? .....or let me refrase that will it stop small arms fire? because i have seen clips of these things really in warzones underfire and if that glass isnt bullet resistant it doesnt seem like it would offer much protection at all considering the sides are wide open

They're still pretty fierce in their AH-6 gunship configuration. Two 7.62mm gatlings, and two 7-shot rockets pods (2.75" FFAR's) is some serious firepower against infantry and irregular forces.

my $0.02: rangers have their own MH-6s and AH-6s, or at least they had them permanently tasked to their unit at Ft. Lewis. when in a task force (like mogadishu), they're supported by the 160th SOAR so they probably don't fly their own. who knows, i was in before rangers became part of SOCOM, maybe now it's all 160th.

as far as 6s being the best, AH-64s have a higher power to weight ratio, higher pitch/roll rate, and can do a full loop. (disclaimer, i was a ground pounder, not a helo pilot)

160th all the way.If it hadn't been for the 160th Little Bird Guys,we'd have lost a lot more guys in Mogadishu...they were in the air all night protecting the guys...they are kick ass pilots in one hell of an aircraft. I have some time in 500's and they are the best helo to fly...bar none...a helo on steroids...but in the right hands, a 206 or 58 can do amazing things (most pilots just never fully wring out the 206!)

Blackwater flies Civilian MD 530's right off the factory line. The Army flys AH-6 and MH-6 models. They are basically the same bird but the BW machines are not equipped with benchs, fast rope attachment points, FLIR pod, 2.75 rocket pods or M134 mini's. If you ever see an AH-6 you just had the honor of seeing a Nightstalker. I just wish they had never replaced them with the OH-58D which aren't nearly as crash worthy and pretty underpowered.
