You can't become an all-time rock icon by being a robot, dude, get fucking real - every second guitarist out there is a robot, but there's only one Yngwie Malmsteen. Blues isn't all about technique. Its the drive, the feeling behind it that plays a vital part, and he, I'm afraid, is missing just that. Do not get me wrong, I really like his playing, just not blues.
@dubZZish dude as much love as i have for Dime, he's really only like a D level guitar player on the world class level. Yngwie is an A+. Yngwie is just incredible.
So thats what passes for blues to eastern euoro's? Try some Johnny Winter if you want to hear the real thing. I'll suggest I'm Yours And I'm Hers, Broke And Lonely, or It's My Own Fault to anyone interested in relentless, inspired, blues guitar licks.
@masteroftheuniverse4 Zakk plays stupid pointless notes ALL the fucking time. WTF are you smoking? He's awesome, don't get me wrong, but take away his wah pedal and his pitch harmonics he's not all that great. Yngwie is repetitive too, but you can learn much more by studying this guy than you can Zakk. The chord progressions and movements, the technique, the theory...
This guy is famous for a reason, and he has much more credibility in the world of guitar playing than Zakk ever will.
@Rejekt313 Might be a bit of a longshot here, but I have a theory about some kind of misunderstanding somewhere in the process of naming this blues song/jam/thing. Since it's from the Live in Leningrad (Russia) concert, I think this was supposed to be named "Spasiba", meaning "Thank You" - being Yngwie's way to say thanks to his russian fans at the concert. But it's just a theory of mine, I have no proof to back it up with.
Haha the lick at 1:00 is Yngwie's favourite, if you listen carefully in many of his blues solos he plays that, perhaps inspired by Blackmore's solo in Demons Eye (a favourite of Yngwie's)
they can play only the notes without the feeling of hendrix or MUddy or gilmour....it's not the same if you hear them or Hendrix....Yngwi solo's can easy be played by a skilfull player but fealling it's not about skills....
The thing about blues is.. Standing on the shoulders of all the greats, who came before you! Lets you see further than they! (sorry, but YJM IS cool) Peace !
@rawzone1 Everyone just quit the nonsense. It's like a war here. He's this, he's that. He is what he is, and that is all. You cannot replicate a blues artist and you cannot replicate Yngwie. You don't have to be black, wife left you or your dog died, to be playing the blues. It is after all, a timing and rythm signature. Malmsteen played the blues, he didn't have the blues. If this isn't so, then a true blues listener has one Robert Johnson album in their entire collection.
stop with all the "its not real blues" crap. Its his interpretation of the blues. Yes he shreds a lot, but if you don't like shredding what the hell are you doing listening to yngwie?
People seem to be overlooking the fact that Yngwie isn't a Blues player - He's a shredder - which by the way takes a lot more skill than it does to play the blues.
NO, he didnt mean "statesboro" blues. It's "SPASEBO". Do some homework before attempting to make fun of people... as to not make a complete fool of yourself.
@thom188 , Don't devalue precursors who came way before malmsteen, they were masters of the blues then and they still are now, saying that malmsteen is 'better' only displays ignorance. Malmsteen isn't the only one with blues chops, hunt around for videos of Jeff Healey or Gary Moore.
Usually the ones devaluing older players are the ones who in fact can't even play the blues with any degree of real skill.
@luigiperso I'm just sayin that people tend to think that only popular blues players that are not virtuosos on the guitar can play with "feel" , malmsteen just showed otherwise in this video. meaning you don't need to be a limited, pentatonic scale player to play with "soul"
@thom188 Malmsteen can play everything better than anyone else. Not just blues and classical, everything! lol. The guy is a freak. I say show apreciation while hes here with us. Dont wait till someone passes before singing there praise. Show then while you can. Malmsteen is the most talented guitarist we have ever seen. Im talking out right talent, no one comes close to Malmsteen.
@thom188 I'm not a hater and what you say is right. He can play the blues much better than ALL so called Bluesmen. But not better than any REAL bluesman...
listen SRV, you will learn "what a feel!" means. Please be respectful, because of these "so called bluesman" of the past, all the great guitarists of today are here
This is NOT classical blues man, it's his version and there's nothing wrong with it. It's a new sound for the genre, Yngwie isn't the kind of guy to copy others, he will forge his own way. Don't like it, then go watch Albert King or Johnny Winters or Stevie Ray. They are all great in their own regard... YJM may not play like those other guys but I'd like to see them play like him.
it's called a blues because it uses the blues progression to solo over, just like when a jazz bebop player solo's over a blues chord progression, and yes it doesn't sound like muddy waters or howlin wolf. but blues is also a musical term used to describe certain chord progession and by that standard it is difinetly a blues
You can't dream of playing this, so you complain about it. What a loser. Keep playing your little pentatonic pattern, and I'll keep blowing guitarists like you off the stage.
It depends what does it means to some people walking or acting funny in these situations. I wouldn't Yngwie walked funny in the stage, actually in the 80's there was this phenomena where musicians wanted to make show, not only headbanging like nowdays. Anyway, what is important is the MUSIC !
De gustibus. I love the way he play Blues and in general he was the only talented guitar player that have the talent to play so cleaner and fast with a Stratocaster.
Clapton IS the blues? He used to be, a little bit. But how do you explain his pop, rock or even dance albums? Armani suits, overprocessed sound and disco rythms? Lately, he's been trying to "go back to the roots" with totally lame music as a result. Clapton being a blues legend??!! WTF are ppl thinking out there?
davidisamazing - rethink that, without clapton and bb king, arguably two of the best blues artists in modern times yngwie would possibly never be around.
Those of you who claim shredders have no soul seem to be authorities on what the term means. Is soul consituted by how long you hold a bent note (ala B.B King) or is it playing what you feel is inside of you to play? I might justas well say jimi may have had soul (of one kind), but as far as technique for today goes, he wanked alot..but i won't.
I'm sure Jimi would much rather just be breathing...This guy is fast and has amazing technique, but he has no SOUL, which is what the blues is all about.
how about Hendrix's solo on red house? Or ehm... muddy Waters' 2-note solo's, you know? Blues is not about shredding scales en playing incredibly fast. It is about giving a very right feel to each note, no matter how slow...
@JZLucas LOL Really? Who do you know that could cover a Hendrix solo accurately after a year of playing? I would love to hear what you call a "hendrix cover".
This is quite possible the most musically idiotic statement of all time.
@PilotDoofy Yes, really. Hendrix is not difficult at all to play. His live material is filled with mistakes. He's #1 as far as being innovative, but chops-wise he's most sloppy.
@JZLucas I will take your comments seriously when I see you post a cover of any hendrix song you choose. go ahead, humor me. Anything short of a video response will have me laughing at you even harder than now.
Certainly not the most technically difficult, but to play Hendrix without sounding like a robot is certainly not easy. What some people call a mistake others call Hendrix's biggest signature. Who else can play sharp (born under a bad sign) and still sound amazing?
@JZLucas Well.. He usually was under the influence of some kind of drug, so I don't blame him. And you have to understand that jimi had way less influences than guitarists have today, as you can see on most guitarists, it all comes back to jimi in the end. And besides, jimi taught himself to play, malmsteen on the other hand went to all kinds of schools, expensive ones.
@JZLucas And if you're too deaf to hear it, this is quite clearly a Red House rendition. Got to love the brilliance you find on the internet eh? LOL Kids today make me lose faith in all human intelligence.
@JZLucas What a stupid comment. Just playing the notes doesn't mean you're covering Hendrix. The actual notes that Hendrix played were a very small part of the Hendrix mystique. Hendrix was an innovator an anomaly in his time. His music was a lifestyle...an attitude channelled through the guitar. Thinking it's about the notes, speed, techinique etc. shows that you are clueless.
Just enjoy Yngwie for who he is and enjoy Jimi for who he is...love the music.
Ok, you just change the name "blues" by "bluesey" and no more shity comments about this.

It depends what does it means to some people walking or acting funny in these situations. I wouldn't Yngwie walked funny in the stage, actually in the 80's there was this phenomena where musicians wanted to make show, not only headbanging like nowdays. Anyway, what is important is the MUSIC !
NeoBarockLoki 4 years ago
lmao over exegeration but yea he walks funny sometimes around the stage
SousukePanic 4 years ago
He plays blues better than actual Americans guitar players...
wesmith77 4 years ago
i would like to have no feal like that !
iamismael 4 years ago
yngwie has no feal it's the most annoying thing to listen to besides the dentist drilling your teeth
egits 4 years ago
De gustibus. I love the way he play Blues and in general he was the only talented guitar player that have the talent to play so cleaner and fast with a Stratocaster.
wesmith77 4 years ago
egits, are you serious? If so, I really think you ought to listen to the Malm more in depth. Especially before you make such criticism.

Chris741113 4 years ago
this is not blues.. the blues is spirit.. this is speedy.. bah..
contemaxts 5 years ago
That's an extremely fucking narrow-minded, closed, elitist view of blues.

TMUSICIAN 5 years ago
now adays he incorperates harmoic minor into his blues, which doesnt even make it sound like blues anymore.... why couldnt he stay brilliant :/
j000rm0m 5 years ago
lol jimmi not came up with this progression, the progression is as old as blues. its a simple "blues 12" and verry comon in blues and rock n roll
Adammattsson 5 years ago
davidisamazing - rethink that, without clapton and bb king, arguably two of the best blues artists in modern times yngwie would possibly never be around.
jjbennett123 5 years ago
is jimi had hands that fast (wich i personally feel he doesnt need it) just imagine the sounds he could create along side with wat he can already do
MonkHouse93 5 years ago
r u kidding? people like clapton, B.B.King and Muddy Waters ARE the blues
MonkHouse93 5 years ago
Those of you who claim shredders have no soul seem to be authorities on what the term means. Is soul consituted by how long you hold a bent note (ala B.B King) or is it playing what you feel is inside of you to play? I might justas well say jimi may have had soul (of one kind), but as far as technique for today goes, he wanked alot..but i won't.
sirotahaggen 5 years ago
There ya go, thats how ya play the blues, you listenin Clapton?
72superlead 5 years ago
I'm sure Jimi would much rather just be breathing...This guy is fast and has amazing technique, but he has no SOUL, which is what the blues is all about.
hobey84 5 years ago
exactly
MonkHouse93 5 years ago
You show me a 1 minute improvised blues solo as good as this, hobey84. If you can, my mind is changed.
metlguitar02 3 years ago 4
how about Hendrix's solo on red house? Or ehm... muddy Waters' 2-note solo's, you know? Blues is not about shredding scales en playing incredibly fast. It is about giving a very right feel to each note, no matter how slow...
SGCmyASS 3 years ago
Any guitarist playing a year can cover any Hendrix or Muddy song... 99% of pro guitarists can't cover ANY Yngwie song.
JZLucas 3 years ago 38
That, quite frankly, is irrelevant.
chickenandbaconclub 3 years ago
ya i love yngwie but i still can't play that many of his songs, they're way to hard to learn
prsguitars92 2 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
wtf are u on about ?!?!!? people having played for years on end can't even begin to properly cover a hendrix song!!
dazmo5 2 years ago
what about John Mayer's Bold as love cover, That is Perfection!
bebelenny 2 years ago
@JZLucas LOL Really? Who do you know that could cover a Hendrix solo accurately after a year of playing? I would love to hear what you call a "hendrix cover".
This is quite possible the most musically idiotic statement of all time.
PilotDoofy 1 year ago 3
@PilotDoofy Yes, really. Hendrix is not difficult at all to play. His live material is filled with mistakes. He's #1 as far as being innovative, but chops-wise he's most sloppy.
JZLucas 1 year ago
@JZLucas I will take your comments seriously when I see you post a cover of any hendrix song you choose. go ahead, humor me. Anything short of a video response will have me laughing at you even harder than now.
Certainly not the most technically difficult, but to play Hendrix without sounding like a robot is certainly not easy. What some people call a mistake others call Hendrix's biggest signature. Who else can play sharp (born under a bad sign) and still sound amazing?
Waiting on your cover!
PilotDoofy 1 year ago
@JZLucas Well.. He usually was under the influence of some kind of drug, so I don't blame him. And you have to understand that jimi had way less influences than guitarists have today, as you can see on most guitarists, it all comes back to jimi in the end. And besides, jimi taught himself to play, malmsteen on the other hand went to all kinds of schools, expensive ones.
tatzor 1 year ago
@JZLucas And if you're too deaf to hear it, this is quite clearly a Red House rendition. Got to love the brilliance you find on the internet eh? LOL Kids today make me lose faith in all human intelligence.
PilotDoofy 1 year ago
@JZLucas you couldnt be more wrong
Dam3k 1 year ago
@JZLucas that's crap.. much easier to shred than to play with feeling..
JOHNNYG99X 1 year ago
@JOHNNYG99X Yeah, but to shred with feeling like Yngwie does is much more difficult =D
kranen1 1 year ago
@JZLucas why should any of them give it a try?
ziomoloslaw 1 year ago
@JZLucas , don't be too sure.....you'd be surprised at how difficult is to play like Muddy or BB king.
luigiperso 1 year ago 2
@JZLucas so true..
i get a yngwie far beyond the sun ..half of it ..
give me some comment on it ..thanks
shittyfuck 1 year ago
@JZLucas
that's fucking true!
letteratura2 1 year ago
@JZLucas What a stupid comment. Just playing the notes doesn't mean you're covering Hendrix. The actual notes that Hendrix played were a very small part of the Hendrix mystique. Hendrix was an innovator an anomaly in his time. His music was a lifestyle...an attitude channelled through the guitar. Thinking it's about the notes, speed, techinique etc. shows that you are clueless.
Just enjoy Yngwie for who he is and enjoy Jimi for who he is...love the music.
