  • bro I have an old park board I got from my friend, it still rides solid but I hot waxed it it got the deep scratches out but after a day at the local terrain park the scratches reappared (the old ones) and are fairly deep, would wax cover this if I rewax it over a fresh hot wax or do you think it could possibly be to deep? I mean wax covers it but its not a pernament cover if you get what I'm saying ?

  • @NaugybmxCT It is called p-tex. It is a stick of plastic you light on fire and drip into the gouge. You overfill the gouge and then scrape off the excess. You will want a metal scraper for this. I would look up a video on how to do it.

  • instead of a scraper could you use a set triangle ? thx

  • @xXcodplayaXx96 I suppose. A scraper is just a piece of plastic, like a set triangle.

Every so often I actually sharpen the edge of my scraper because the edge seems to get rounded out/dirty and becomes less effective. I just use my edge sharpener that I use for my metal edges to take off a little plastic and make the edge of it clean again.

This might make your triangle a better scraper. Also, it just has to be sturdy enough to make an uniform 'scrape.' Sounds plausible.

  • @585productions thanks ! :)

  • I have a bottle of 'wax gone' its used to get the excess wax of a surfboard, do you reckon it would be a good idea to give it a wipe down with that once i finish all the stuff in your vid? or would it just take off the rest of the wax that you need on your board?

  • @joeclemashford1 Out of all the research I have done myself, I've never seen that done, and I think the process I show in hte video has been adjusted and made better over the years, so its pretty optimized. The board will ride great after doing what I've shown HOWEVER I'm always open to ideas. As long as you dont htink it will damage your board give it a try, it might be an obvious failure or an obvious improvement, but I my instinct tells me it will take the wax out of the pores in the base

  • @joeclemashford1 I don't think a surfboard 'soaks' up the wax like a snowboard, and I'm not even sure its the same type of wax, I would imagine not.

  • Sweet bro

  • @585productions. Yea, a gaint brush like that is what I meant. Thanks. Appreciate it tons. Haha looks like ill take a trip to bedbath lol thanks.

  • I had someone tell me to use a brush to put ridges in it for water release. Like in a tire. Does that cause more friction or no?

  • @rizluv6 No that's fine if I know what you are talking about. I just use this brush that kind of looks like a giant toothbrush, I think it is used to clean dishes I got it from Bed Bath and Beyond haha. As long as you brush along the length of the board and not edge-to-edge. This would be a last step just to add some channels in the wax for water/stuff to travel down. Nothing extreme, just faint 'scuffs'.

  • I'm so afraid to wax my board haha I dontt wanna mess it up Dx haha I need help! This did tho:)

  • Great vid, beats all the others i found thanks

  • This video is a million times better than the expert village one. Great job. Very helpful!

  • can i use just lika a candle? ima do it right now

  • @MrPhilipdaman ya have fun

  • so you're supposed to get as much wax off as you can?

  • @drumstix1231 yeah, your scraper will be taking off next to nothing when you're done, but you don't wanna start like digging into your base cuz ur goin all Hulk on your board lol. It is easy to see where wax remains if you angle your board so light reflects off of it

  • dude i love your enthusiasim

  • @expertcinema hahah the content is exciting enough! right? lol

  • @585productions oh yeah you did really help me up! just gotta put in some dance moves or something haha... jk but I would like to see u snowboard

  • what tempature

  • @SillyGoosey911 just so the wax melts and drips, not so hot that it smokes n_n

  • fergilicious ftw :\

  • Next to petroleum distillates, Formula 409 is probably the worst thing you could put on your base. Use natural cleaners that contain citric acid. Scotch pads are included in almost all the kits that are sold at shops. They are an integral part to tuning your board.

  • do you have to take the bindings off?

  • @tuneguy3 Loosen the screws, I know its a pain in the ass to redo your settings. The reason for this is because if there is pressure on the board from the screws, the heating and cooling, over time, will put dimples in your base... also known as binding suck. Kind of like how you heat metal to bend it and then let it cool so it will hold that position, the same thing happens from the 'pull' of the screw on the threads which then translate that force into your base.

  • Did the other side of the board get warm? if so then it was probably warm enough. And the wax will be fairly ugly until you scrape it off. I mean, it will get smoother looking after you get the motions down

  • i waxed my board and i felt like the wax never really melted fully into my board... it just stayed splotchy and clumpy.. and plus i did like 4 runs over the board... do u hav any solution??

  • its also a waste to do the nose and tail

  • @jcraff3 its not a waste to do the nose and tail if ur capable of doing a nose or tail press in where the surface of the nose or tail would be against the snow/rail/box/w.e and over time get dirty/dry out

  • no way in hell should u scrape your frign board w a scroth bright seriously? spray 409 or anything that will take grim etc off and let it sit..whipe down..dont F*&$ your base like that man come on

  • @jcraff3 No actually scotchbrite pads are very mild... Maybe they make coarse ones but the GREEN ones I use just polish it off nicely.

Also, I've been told cleaning products will dry out your base, but maybe if you wax it right after its not a problem...

  • @585productions use a scotchbrite pad... lmao at 409 that would seriously mess up your board

  • I've been shredding 4 times so far this season and I like to go on a lot of rails, so should I get my board waxed soon?

  • @klaudia55430 eh.. you should probably wax it no matter what but if your like spending most of your time on the rails I guess wax is least important for rails. It might make you glide accross the rail easier (unless you leave a lot of wax on, then you get a sticky feel, so polish up if you are doin it yourself). ask a shop for a better opinion

  • just got done waxing and this video really helped me out a lot. peace.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO, great tutorial i hope you do more since your good at them :D

  • Thanks man. Good video. Pretty much same deal for skis I'll bet, eh?

  • @RiverBug2 yup

  • @RiverBug2 yup

  • great tutorial. i'm ready to wax!!!

  • i use a cork instead of tht scotch thing

  • How often fo you have to re-wax the board? Is it like every season or like every day?

    Thanks

  • @xfreakyxboyx666x As much as you want... I used to do it almost every time I went but to be honest I'm just weird. Probably like every five times you go... It really depends on conditions. Powder wont cause much wear and tear on your base but icy snow or muddy spring snow may require more frequent waxings. If you have a board that you spent a lot of money on it only makes sense to take care of it as much as your free time/money will allow you to do

  • @585productions Thanks

  • This hint Helped me

  • works soooo good for mee, first time i did it and t came out soo dope

  • i bought ordinary iron with no steam holes, from flea market, and yes i bought it just for using it to wax my board, i dont wanna wax my clothes :D then i bought base wax, scraper and somekind of brush, and i thought id use an old sock or something to finally polish :) there isnt heat scale in iron but there is dots, 1 or 2 dots should be ok?

  • @wwilper88 Yeah, w.e heat setting works for you should melt the wax but not make it smoke (you might see little whisps of smoke sometimes thats okay)

  • almost all you have to know, thanks, this helped me a lot :) but can i do this with ordinary iron, does it matter that there is the steam holes?

  • @wwilper88 It's kind of bootleg but it will work. Make sure there is no water in the/NO steam at all. Don't use it for clothes afterwards there will be wax all up in it.

  • to polish it at the end i use a big piece of flat cork.

  • @TheFunniestDude yup, some waxes will come with cork.

  • why dont you want the board to get to hot??

  • @666razorback666 It has a wood core, you dont want to heat it up too much... im not exactly sure but maybe it warps the wood or damages the resins that hold everything together.

  • @585productions it actually has nothing to do with the core you if you let the iron sit in one place for to long you will leave scorch marks on the board and permanently seal off the pores ruining your base

  • @mtbman17 oh okay thanks man, I wasnt really sure.

  • awesome vid

  • How hard should you push down on the scraper? And what is the p-Tex you mentioned to fill in gouges?

  • @ImDylanS When you take the first few passes over the wax it will be fairly easy, but you want the wax left on the board to be a pretty thin film. So I usually start off easy and then start to put a little more force in it as I go, getting the the point where im leanin into it a good bit. If you hold the board up or look at it in hte light right you can more clearly see what the wax is lookin like. After a scrape and buff with Scotch Brite pad, bas is very clean, smoothand uniform feeling/looking

  • @ImDylanS the p tex is a little black candle that u light and let it drip on the gouge in your board to fill them in and u wanna wait for the flame to turn blue b4 u let it drip on your board and i usaually scrap off the extra around it to make it look nice

  • hey man, so after waxing and scraping your board, can you re use the wax you scraped off???

  • @123mesayhi you can but ive been told its not as good. dont know why lol

  • @123mesayhi If you have to choose between old wax and no wax at all, its better to go with old wax. But the scraped off wax contains all the dirt and particulates that were brought to the surface when you waxed the board. If you are going to reuse wax don't do it in the spring or fall when grass and mud and stuff are always getting on your board. Honestly its probably not horrible for your board but shouldn't be your first choice.

  • does it matter what kind of iron you use? I have one but unlike yours it has holes in the bottom. also, what happens if you don't scrape off excess wax and you only iron the wax on?

  • @dirtjump11 If you mean a household iron, it COULD work but you wont be able to use it for clothes afterward haha. Shaun White used to use a hot pan to wax his boards apparantly. And yeah you definitly have to scrape it off, once you wax it on you will see its all lumpy. You want the wax to fill the tiny pores in the base of the board, scraping it takes off all the wax except the wax in those pores (plus a very thin film that will wear off after a few runs). Not scraping will make ur board slow

  • @585productions thanks for the advice, i'm kinda new to this.

  • @dirtjump11 the only reason i know how to do this is because i watched tons of videos just like this one before i made it. All of them give a slightly different way of doing it so the best way to learn is to try it out a couple times. Then your friends will pay you to wax their board cuz they were too lazy to learn how ha

  • yo is it bad if i use ghetto candle wax...cuz thats all i got at the moment ?

  • @CronicXImpulse pretty sure its just not the same thing. Steal a few bucks from your little sister

  • @585productions ight thanx broo

  • do you fix gouges before you wax?

  • @airsnowboardking Yeah, you would want the p-tex to be below the wax.

  • best descriptive vid i have seen. cleanly done and very tidy.

    good effort!

  • when your using the iron the second and first time is the heat on high or in the medium pre heat range?

  • @skaterdog1000 I keep the temperature the same through the whole process (unless it is so hot you see the wax smoking, or too cold that the wax isnt all melting as you glide the iron across the board). You should be able to melt all the wax under the iron while moving it at about one inch per second or so. My iron just had number settings and I think they were in degrees, in which case I usually keep it at 120-130 F (maybe Celsius idk).

  • @585productions thanks for the help. cant wait to shred this year

  • good video.. unlike some of the ones i have seen so far hahahahaha...

  • just bought a 2005 burton custom x..... need to wax that motherfucker.

  • so if i go like on saturday and sunday every week... just wax it like every monday??

  • @Mr360JM, yeah man if you can keep that up you're golden. You dont even have to feel bad if you skip a week here and there

  • can you use candle wax??

  • can u use candle wax

  • how often should you wax your board

  • @pokeynoone

as much as you can. about every 5 days at the mountain.

  • lol at first i thought he said "hello im jay leno..."

  • fo sho I am Jay Leno

  • does it matter what kinda wax

  • To a certain degree. As long as it's ski/snowboard wax you will be good. There are different waxes for different snow temperatures but who the hell can predict the temperature for the next time they will ride? So I usually just go with all temp wax.

  • Hey i noticed you were using a plastic scrapper. I just bought a medal scrapper and i was wondering if i can still use it without damageing my board. Also i was wondering if it would affect the performance between a medal and plastic scrapper.

  • It wouldnt be my first choice because metal is more aggressive and you might find yourself taking off all the wax and kind of scraping the base. I only use metal to take off excess p-tex plastic (used for filling in gouges). But as I've said for a lot of other questions, it is POSSIBLE and it will do the job, but MOST LIKELY not as good as you could with a plastic scraper.

  • Ya nice vid helped me a lot

  • Thanks man happy new year.

  • yup happy new year and have fun snowboarding

  • Great video, helped me a lot. What if you ride directional though? Would you need to scrap nose to tail like a lot of people say??

  • I actually tried that for a while and I didn't notice a difference. You can scrape in both directions, and if you want to try and "directionalize" it, then when you buff it with the Scotch Brite pad, buff in one direction. The buffing makes the final shape of the wax anyway.

  • That's what I thought, thanks for the second opinion!! =D Happy New Year to all!!

  • it's amazing to see someone who has this much knowledge and love for their equipment even for a Lamar. I applaud you for a well made and very informative video. I want to see you wax the TRice.

  • Thanks man, I spend a lot of time messin with my stuff and tryin to learn as much as I can. As far as the Lamar, it was my gf's board haha. But thanks for the compliment, I'll probably make some more vidoes about this kind of stuff because a lot of people seem to have questions about how to take care of thier boards.

  • how do u know if u got the right amout of wax off when u r scraping it

  • Assuming you are scraping pretty firmly, but not completely putting all your weight into the scraper, you should stop when there isnt much wax coming off anymore. I also hold the board so some light reflects off it and you can see spots you missed, which for me is usually around the edges or at each end cuz those are tough spots to get sometimes. You don't want a visible "layer" of wax, but instead a thin sleek shiny appearance, especially after you buff it out.

  • Like what if you dont have a good scraper like can we use like a ruler?

  • It's definitely possible. I guess there are plenty ways of physically waxing a board, but you can get better results using good equipment. I know money can get tight so I encourage improvisation haha. Being in college, I definitely stretch my money as far as it can go.

  • knowones got that n e more its all like the wax for just getting speed

  • do u use just normal like candal wax?

  • No. You need to buy snowboard wax, which is sold at almost all shops, and even at places like Zumiez in a mall or something.

  • sweet vid man cheers

  • hey man, very helpful, cheers

jus wondering is thea a way i can use the iron for clothes? can i jus wrap with baking paper or sumthin? lol

  • It is possible and I have seen it done and if you are gonna resort to that, here is a few tips...

    1) DONT put water in it for the steam.

    2) Best to use one without holes in it.

    3) NEVER use it for clothes ever again.

It might be a little sloppier but hey it's possible.

  • It is all up to you. If you are in love with your equipment like me, you might wax before every time you go riding. I would at LEAST wax my board every 5 days you take it out. And you only wax the bottom never the topsheet. Waxing smooths the base so the board slides easily over snow, it is not for looks, even though a base generally "looks" better after you wax it,

  • hey couple quistons, well first of all youtube is slow to day so i might have missed somthng ok but um how often should u wax and im getting a burton twin and the top is like metallic or well realy smooth textur should i wax the top and the bottom.. please respon and thanks great videol.

  • lol, if you dont kno what waxing is for dont even do it. or atleast get it done by a pro and not yourself.

  • and does the iron you use matter at all?

  • just dont use a iron for clothes haha. as long as it is a flat iron for waxing you will be good. i prefer temp control but it is definitly not necessary.

  • now when u scarpe, do you scrape all the wax off so just the scratches/gouges are filled in?

  • You scrape until little to no wax is coming off. Then you buff it to make it really finished and smooth and sometimes while you buff you will notice spots that have just a little too much wax. like if you use a scothc brite pad it wont run smoothly over spots with too much wax

  • thanks mann

  • dude.. do you need a special kind of wax? or could i use any ordinary type of wax? could i use a candel?

  • Definitly snowboard wax. It's not THAT expensive. After a while I guess it adds up but candlewax is not an option. Wax can range from $5 to $15. There is no need to spend more than $10 unless you race. Anyone who tells you that you can use candlewax is lying or uneducated about what they are saying. Don't listen to those ppl lol

  • Hey great video, how often should you wax your board?

  • Well I'm like a fanatic and I wax my board every single time I ride it, or close to it. But in reality al you have to do is look at your base. When it looks dull and scratched up and dry, give it a wax. I would say about every 3 full days of riding. If it's an older board or something you dont care that much about, maybe just once or twice a month.

  • nice vid.. but it seems that it takes 4ever to wax the board.. :-(

  • well just plan on taking about 20 mins putting the wax on, 20 mins to let it cool (preferably overnight) and 20 mins to scrape the wax. It's really not that bad but scraping definitly gets tiresome i usually take a couple of breaks. It's definitly something you do when you have a bit of freetime.

  • i always loosen my bindings first. i heard if you don't, it can warp your board.

    great video though.

  • Ya I do that. Thanks for reminding me, I put an annotation in the video...

  • Thanx im going to try this instead of bringing it in to spormart lol.

  • nice vid. thx.

  • This is a quality video man, cheers for putting this together dude!

  • no problem
