did some googling and a more probable reason (since the antibiotic was found in bones in skeletons of all ages, even in infants from the mothers milk) is that the bacteria that produced tetracycline grew in the beer brewed at the time.

there is some evidence of beer itself being used for antiseptic and treatment purposes
