I'm from the US and lived in a suburb in Sydney called "Eastlakes" back in 1994. I would ride my bicycle from Eastlakes to Coogee beach all the time! Riding the hills on my bike was a great workout! Then I would just chill all day at the beach. Man, that was my hang out. Always preferred Coogee over Bondi 'cause it was less crowded. I dig the cove beaches in Sydney 'cause they reminded me of "Laguna Beach" here in Southern California.
Thanks for response I am an old Coogee boy. Oceanic was bizarre on a good day and went downhill at times from that. It was more of a continueing event than a place. But still have a grin just thinking about the place live horse in the lounge bar is a start

whhhat Father Frank? wow! I remember Father Frank when I went to St. Brigid's "By The Sea" on Coogee Bay Rd. I was about 10 yrs old then. Im 20 now. I lived there for a year in 1998, and I still remember Father Frank coming to visit us in the school and in class. Living in australia was one of the highlights of my life. amazing place and great people.
I don't think the backpackers you are referring to (just north of Coogee Beach up the hill)is still there. A block of luxury apartments replaced it maybe 6-7 years ago. Coogee is still a great area (cafes, restaurants, pubs, beach, parks), but the drunks pouring out of the pubs late at night are a bit of a problem.
Yeah too true, its a real shame...such a nice place by day and then it turns to shit by night. I live very close to the Palace hotel and have started to get unwanted visitors mistaking my place for a back enterance to the Palace

@Gramps458 lol so true...I think I've lived in Coogee for 4 or 5 years and been to the CBH and the Palace less than 10 times between the both of them.
Hate both of them.
Oceans or "I cant remember what it's called now" Cushion? Is a much better bar
The Coogee Cafe also now does a small Aussie boutique bar theme now which is pretty awesome

I was there Christmas 2001 until May 2002, and I have wonderful memories. Is Father Frank still the priest?

I remember his Christmas Day 2001 sermon, after the church had been renovated. He seemed as a Londoner would say, "a diamomd geezer."
DClean, where do you live now?

I live in Toronto, Canada.

Thanks for that, just seeing the beach brings back some great memories.
It's a place I'll never forget.

Any chance you walk up a bit further to the Coogee beach backpackers if it's still there, I stayed there in April 1992

I lived in Coogee for a year in 1998. And I went to elementary school at St. Brigid's right next to that backpacker place.
