Well, he has been on the cover of Drummer Magazine. John creates his own bands from what I understand and rrely if ever "joins bands". He's outlived Moon and Bonham. He's in a class with Ringo Starr. Not bad for being underrated. He's a natural born drummer. Most drummers his age have had hip and tendon surgeries, foot surgeries. John manages to rise above the limelight of stardom. The Doors album remixes put him upfront. He's became individually famous in the past 10 years.

My hat goes off to Densmore. Anyone who says another drummer would have been better for the band has to be crazy. If you read his autobiography Riders On the Storm, it's mesmerizing. His talk about Coltrane and Elvin Jones, I couldn't stop reading. And he shows how life doesn't stop even after rock stardom, discussing the suicide of his brother. Truly a remarkable man.

my setup:

i use a 4" holz kit to make it a ported head, and make a ring of duct tape around the inner outside edge of it, to add some extra depth.... and use an aquarian superkick II with an aquarian kickpad, no tape. do that and you have a super deep, super short bass drum sound......... PERFECT for 32nd notes. careful cuttin the 2 plies though!

....you know in the event that im not the only extreme metal drummer here watchin densmore.

Jim relished in making Densmore feel uncomfortable. Read Ray Manzarek's 'Light My Fire.' There are some funny excerpts where Ray discusses Jim's relationship w/ Densmore. Btw, I met Densmore once, and he was a nice guy when I met him.
