I was diagnosed with asthma about 5 months ago and started taking symbicort. I have gained a whopping 10 lbs! I looked online and didn`t see any info on weight gain a couple months ago. But when I did more research today I have found that these "steroids" make you gain weight! Now I feel heavy and I can`t even walk fast or I start breathing heavy!
Symbicort does make you gain weight. At least, it has been happening to me off and on. I have to get off the medication after a few days because the intense weight gain doesn't help my asthma symptoms go away. I've battle asthma for over 10 years now and it only seems to get worse. Doesn't matter how active you are. Best of luck!
I took Advair for a few months and it was plugging my nose up and hurt like heck. Now I'm on Symbicort and am just recently after about 6 months am having a similar issue, BUT, some foods can cause asthma symptoms as well. Best thing to do if you suspect food, is to eliminating what you have been eating within the last 3 months of having symptoms, tough to do, but it's doable. Veggies that are not rinsed, can cause some serious issues, alcohol as well.
Hi please try zyflamend. It is natural anti-inflammatory bill you can get online or at the vitamin shoppe. I have been taking one pill a day and I do not have take symbicort which caused me to gain 10 lbs.
Thank you, thank you! I'm having the same problem as well. I've gained ten pounds in 5 months. I've been telling my husband and doctor that I think it's from the Symbicort because I started gaining weight at the same time I started the treatment. My doctor and pharmacist did not want to believe me. My doctor said that it's probably because I breathe better that I eat more.... but I haven't changed my eating habits at all. Thanks for the video!! It's helped me confirm that I'm not crazy...
I can't believe your doctor told you that you are probably eating more because you are breathing better, how ridiculous!!! You might want to look into getting a second opinion.
How are you in the military if you have asthma? I tried joining the USMC and they wouldn't let me because of it. I also know a girl who tried to join the Air Force and they wouldn't let her for the same reason.
You are correct. The military does not do asthma. In my case, I've been in the Army for over six years, and I've just now developed asthma like sypmtoms. Doctors are currently trying to diagnose this and treat it. In the mean time, the Army has me on a limited duty status. If they figure out it's asthma that cannot be regulated, than they will sure as heck boot me out. Hope that answers your question.
@randir14 It's very possible to develop asthma late in life. I did. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I could have been in the military at the time..it happens..though I was not.
ok so i am on symbicort as well. i was wondering, how long does it take for the Symbicort to really make you feel like you can breathe a lot better? like ive been feeling on and off. does anybody have an answer?
I want to warn you that if you begin taking advair you will not be able to just stop taking it. It could cause sudden death. Make sure you do your homework on this medication and also on Glaxo Smith Kline. It is common that doctors do not tell you all the information you should know before you start taking a medication.
I have been on Advair for some 4 years or so. No weight gain. I once took a different medicine that made me gain weight. I think it has to do with the steroid content. If I were you I would look into this. The previous medicine I took was called Singular. Be sure you do your own research, best of luck! God Bless Our Military!
turns out advair may make you gain weight too. i started taking both advair and symbicort 2 months ago. im going to try to get on xopenex hfa. xopenex is similar to albuterol which is a salbuterol. a side effect of of that is higher fat metabolism.
i work out alot and was wondering why i wasnt losing anymore weight... at about the time i got back on symbicort is when i started slowing down in my weight lose. i havent lost weight in about 2 months and have been on symbicort for 2 months.
Hi, I had been taking Alvesco before (not sure if that is a Canadian brand name or not) and I didn't have any problems with it. I hope you find a good solution. Let me know if you do. Right now I am not taking anything, and I have had to use my Ventolin a little bit, but maybe only like once or twice a week.

@blackout2240 For me, about 15 minutes, but it does seem like I have to take it more and more and I've been on it for only 6 months.
