I should point out I generally dont like clean vocals in metal, though there are some exceptions.

Nope. Theyre pretty terrible.

99% of power metal and such is just completely uninteresting to me. There are a few bands though, Artillery, Helloween, Running Wild, Riot, some Iced Earth. Not a genre I enjoy much though.

Umm, you need to understand that this is a different type of "Metal", Pagan Folk Metal therefore clean vocals for this style are ok, and the so called "fruity stuff" is exceptional.

Beautiful! But the synth is a drawback. No offence meant to the talented Almira Fatkhullina, but real wind and strings would give Alkonost a richer, complex, and more interesting sound. I'm not advocating folk "authenticity" but a better *quality* of sound. Nor am I against synth per se, as some of my favorite artists --Kraftwerk, Numan, Ultravox-- used synth to make sounds only a synth can make. But I think Arkona's use of synth to imitate other intruments is a thin, cheesy shortcut.

Technically, Alkonost are'nt folk metal - You need folk instruments for it to be folk, so its more just epic/pagan or whatever, but still VERY GOOD!
