The Tempo's way out, It's like they're all racing to get to the end and sorry but without Honey it's just not the Honeycombs, there's a saying that 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' but sadly not in this case.
@ionixGameOn It SOUNDS a lot like him, but I do not think it is based upon the date of the posting (2008). Denis D'Ell, the original singer, according to all accounts I can find, show that he died of cancer at the age of 61 on July 6, 2005. Still a great song though.
The original band split up in in 1966 aftyer having achieved one number 1 hit and a string of flop follow ups. The only original band member here is the guitarist on the far left. All i can say about this performance is that if this was how the original band performed live no wonder they only had one hit.
Have known the song for years of course but used to think it more "beat" than my beloved British rocknroll such as the Shads/Rapiers who also use Burns. But while looking at JoeMeek stuff today saw this and other 60s clips of Honeycombes, I'm impressed, they were good musos particularly the guitar work (always Burns !!), all with the heavy Meek (from near me in Gloster!) sound. Great !
oh, sorry. I thought you were doing that internet thing.. "I heard he died".. whenever there's a weird video like a cute animal or a skydiver or an old band like this, there's always a few smart-alecs who post "I heard he died"
Please do not disrespect this band or it music!! Martin is to the left!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all for the music The Honeycombs have made throughout the years!!!!!
@lmorgan1974 That's Martin Murray...he always wore those "thick" glasses ever since I first saw The 'Combs back in the early 60's!! Too bad the original members aren't in the group...but what awesome memories about an under-rated band!!
Hi Slush, Hope you had a chance to listen to the original? I feel for some of these old bands, they do try, however, sometimes you just can't go too far from the original sound!
I beleive there may just be a couple of the originals!! I think some of these bands from the 1960's are still around and sounding good, however they are few and far between. I enjoy Van Morrison and i think he was around in the 1960's!
Well on PBS Doo Wop Gold, There are no longer not even one Flamingo left alive, but, They still continue with a New Group.
Still I think this is a Great Cut of Have I the Right.
Jay Black , Sings now as Jay Black, An imitator Purchased the Name the "Americans' From Jay, Well Jay needed the money. But, He still performs great as Jay Black, And So on, And So on! No one lives forever! Thanks for the Great Vid!
Jay & The Americans is owned by The Original Americans, The Flamingos are lead by Terry Johnson. The Honeycombs contain...um...4 guys who have been in the band a couple of years. Martin left the band because, shock horror, he wanted to perform HONEYCOMBS songs!
You seem to be familiar with this situation, so do the original Honeycombs get any money from the use of the group's name? I know that's the situation with the Shangri Las. The surviving originals aren't happy about being legally forced to license the name to a group who has nothing to do with them, but at least they get paid for it.
Fair comment but they're just NOT The Honeycombs any more. No doubting anyone's talent, and you are good Kelly but I think Dennis would be turning in his grave if he saw Tony trying to sing his songs.
at the end of the day these guys are all professional musicians and have been for many years wether solo or part of the honeycombs and other bands they work extremely hard and deserve a lot more than nasty comments...the original member martin murray wanted to get the band together again hence the line up above..so cut them a little slack they deserve it !!!!
@kellywalsh30 I remembering seeing Air Supply in concert back in the 90's...there were quite a few hecklers in the audience...Russell Hitchcock shut them ALL up with one sentence: "I'm up here, YOU'RE down there!!!" It all boils down to one thing: respect!!!
time takes its toll on everyone, but without the original drummer, it's not the same. Same goes with Los Bravos' "Black is Black". Progressions original drummers used aren't there which were part of the mystique of the songs.
Well done 44 years ago I heard this song and never are bored, but my friends maybe were, I played every day as a teenager. I have 2 LPs and 7 singles all I got, listening on radio Luxemburg for news(no MTV)those days, thanks.
no problem im glad you enjoyed them, martin is still going strong bless him, and thanks for the comment on my other video much appreciated..love kelly x
