this game as well as other "dark" has massive influence on my subconscious. This game had an impact on my music and it is still deep inside me. Thank you.
Well, it does look and sound like crap. But I would be very happy if I could code something like this.. and I suspect many people would. I wouldn't make such boring music for it though..
The problem with Atari games is that there was an unbelievably massive difference in quality between the best and the worst games. Nintendo and Sega had much better quality control, so that they could stop something this bad from coming out. Though I still feel this song is awesome. And I woul have probably rather played this than Duck Hunt.
No, this wasn't an official Atari release. It was an independent game by a small British software company for the XL/XE computers (of which the XE console was basically just a keyboardless version).
Another problem was that although the XL/XE series had a following in the UK during the mid-to-late 80s it wasn't as big as the Spectrum, C64 and Amstrad, so the big software developers usually didn't bother.
Others filled the gap, but I assume they didn't have the same resources and staff (or money!) to develop fancy graphics and port games.
Even so, this isn't one of Red Rat's stronger efforts- this was a full price game, but as Page 6 noted, it should have been sold at a budget price.
I used to have this game. Was it possible to get anywhere in this game or do u just keep walking till u die. I dont remember the setting ever changing.

@NotQuarex Exactly! Games on C64 or ZX are 80% full of the performance, games on Atari just 20%... :(

Yes, there were four levels apparently. I got onto level 2 (which had more good music), but no further.
If you get the Atari800win emulator and turn the Player/Missile Graphic (hardware-based sprite) detection off you can cheat that way :-)
BTW, although the skeletons were flickery in this game, the video makes it look even worse than it was. They weren't that bad!
