...many years ago I was at the Chautauqua Theatre in Boulder, I went back stage and gave you a book about a fearful world and ultimate paradise...a month later I was in the dark at the festival in Estes Park and you said, "A month ago a girl gave me a book that really affected me...so I wrote this on the way home, hope you like it." I never told you this, but I love it!
David's music doesn't tend to be divisive along religious lines, despite his own professed faith. His words are malleable, not rigid, allowing each listener to form their own narrative. The great worth of the music does not come from any specific message we believe it must convey, but rather from the intimate universality of it. He is able to connect with our experiences and the wounds they inflict. Great healing can be found in music like this, for both the religious and nonreligious.
"Don't tear your clothing in your grief; instead, tear your hearts. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful. He is not easily angered. He is filled with kindness and is eager not to punish you." I like that - tear your hearts. One of my favorite musicians, David Wilcox, often talks and sings about hearts not working right - until they are broken.
Amazing how being broken, does "let the light in". The song, "show the way", was a song I played repeatedly as I watched the occurences on Sept 11th, when planes hit the twin towers. The song, which reminds us that it seems there is "always someone waiting with an army or a knife... to make us lose our daydreams and put the fear back in our lives." I cried that day, as I played this song, because the world seemed so very far away from the truth, that Only Love can Show the Way.
This is why I love David...I've been listening to him for over 15 years and he never fails to show me that Love is the over riding theme of life, if you allow it in.
My daughter was sick with a fever yesterday, and I played all these wilcox videos while holding her and she quieted down and went right to sleep. That's when I realized what it is I love about Wilcox's music: It heals me. Can't wait till he comes back to town.
This is the song that held me together after the bombing of the Murrah building here in Oklahoma. This is what helped me remember goodness in life. David, you are a Bard. Thank you.
Can I 2nd that?,...DW is awesome,..just picked out this little jewell with the help of JEFFSCOTTK1's exceptionally great rendition, he's all over this song like a hobo on a ham sandwich,..if ya wanna learn it,....start there! If ya can't pick it out, then you suck :~)
