The end when he walks while piano's heard is what I remember most. It's really that stuck in my mind. That, for me, makes something so iconic and unexplainable as 2 why it's so iconic to me, when something is stuck in my mind literally 4ever after seeing it the 1st time & I don't have this series on dvd yet so....that also just adds to this statement.

Fun fact: Anybody remember Willow and Xander's friend Jesse from the first episode of Buffy? Apparently, Joss Whedon was originally thinking of doing the same thing with him that he did with Doyle, having him in about eight or so episodes before killing him off.

@diana42807 I don't think that was in any episode as I recently watched Season 1 from start to finish on DVD. There was the little 5-minute deal that Joss Whedon pitched to the WB, so it could be from that. Otherwise, I don't think it's in there...

@diana42807 Yep, I just watched the unaired pilot that was pitched to WB, and sure enough there they were (David, Charisma & Glenn) near the very end of it. Some footage from that deal made it not only into the opening credits but the first episode as well, notably some of the LA nightlife and Angel staring down at the city at the end of that first episode.
