  • May I knw which was the Dustin Hoffman's movie?..

  • John Travolta!! like oh maa gaawddd!!

  • Bravo. Bravo. Bravo !!! Ben aka Gandhi _()_

  • He is the best fucking actor!

  • No Homo

  • Ben Kingsley did deserve the academy award, and Dustin Hoffman was pretty good too

  • @FuckYouPayMe5150 May I knw which was the Dustin Hoffman's movie?..

  • Ofc. he won. :)

  • Gandhi doesn't like christians coz they were destroying hinduism and other religions in the world n converting people into their fake religion!

  • I wonder if BK has narrated any audiobooks... he has a soothing voice.

  • Ben Kinglsey, a masterful actor.

  • He did not mention GANDHI

  • there was no competition that year, all were great but Ben Kingsley delivered the ultimate performance

  • wow i thought j travolta today was ugly,.,.,but i was wrong

  • PETER O´TOLLE is a legend

    Paul Newman <3<3<3

But Ben Kingsley deserved, loved him in Schindler´s List and House of Sand and Fog

  • Ben has such clarity in what he says! What a proud endorsement to humanity he is!!!

  • @IamGodnLord Are you speaking your right mind?? HARIJAN means "children of god". And gandhi was right to call all people the children of god including the then HARIJANs. Please watch what you say MR.

  • one of the great performance i have ever seen

  • India has a dearth of story to tell the world. Only if the World would listen. Gandhi and Slumdog Millionaire are just 2 of the many thousands of stories. One about the past and one about the present.

  • He 110% deserved that prize. Amazing acting of an amazing man (Gandhi).

  • What a performance and what a acceptance speech by Gandhi/Ben Kingsley!

  • his real name is krishna bhanji. yes he is half indian. i must that was one of the best speeches i have hear at the oscars. classy, crisp and concise. gandhi was one of the better bio pics made and kinglsey deserved this honour. i am from india but i dont know why people are discussing slumdog here. it is bad film not because it won the oscar but because there was a much better film made on the same lines called Salaam Bombay by mira nair. It got nominated but it didn't win then why slumdog?

  • and the winner is AL Pacino in Scarface " loud applause "

  • i like this kind of british accent - very stylish and smooth... not the one kiera knightley does with all the funny faces and all. even sir lawrence olivier in rebecca was very smooth.

  • An amusing quote from Kingsley regarding his Oscar: "If I knew I was going to win, I would not have gone dressed as a waiter."

  • i always feel bad for peter

  • @abkdf If its any consolation, Gandhi would give it to Peter too if he was alive...:))

  • Wow he had no competition.......... Nobody came close

  • Five incredible performances. I would've given it to Hoffman, but any of them would've been fine.

  • hair!! sorry, just felt like i needed to say that..

  • I remember seeing a program about fashion at the Oscars and Kingsley was on it saying he looked like a waiter with a wine bottle when he won his Oscar.

  • Fuck it man !

Al Pacino should have it !

Say Hello Tom My Littel Friend WoW !

  • funny how a british plays gandhi and wins all the accolades..

  • @salluks Hes half Indian....:))

  • Kingsley deserved another Oscar for Schindler's List. Also, according to a recent interview,he rented the suit he's wearing right now.

  • Why did M.K.Gandhi give name to the Dalit as "HARIJAN" means "THE CHILDREN OF TEMPLE PROSTITUTE" since he could have given a good name ??

  • @IamGodnLord Are you speaking your right mind?? HARIJAN means "children of god". And gandhi was right to call all people the children of god including the then HARIJANs. Please watch what you say MR.

  • I am going to memorize this speech!

  • So here we have the extremely humble Kingsley and at the other end of the spectrum we have Mr. "king of the world" Cameron.

  • gandhis only contribution to mankind giving kingsley oscar

  • I think Kingsly should have won the Oscar for Sexy Beast

  • Great category that year. Great Nominees.

  • Hoffman was nominated for playing a dude in a dress. lol wtf

  • HAHAHAHAAH look at John Travolta ;D

  • @ThyizG John Travolta is not gay? Ridiculous!

  • Dear God, what a speech.

  • One of the greatest films ever made kingsley is brilliant as ghandi it is a one off master class of acting probrably never again to be created for me it was that brilliant.

  • Poor Ben Kingsley-has to be presented one of the most deserving awards given in the Academy by John Travolta before he was good =(

  • the koreans are using special lights to look thru the walls. check out my videos. its that green light they use on the motels

  • Paul Newman ... So good in "The Verdict"

  • Wow Vincent Vega.....

  • Oh hot dam... John travolta was hot! <3

  • he got me so impressed in movie "house of sand and fog" to be honest best movie ive seen in long time - ben kingsley is a legend...

  • Ben Kingsley was really good in GANDHI, however, this Oscar really should have

went to Paul Newman in THE VERDICT, one of the BEST movies he ever made,

directed by the recently deceased Sidney Lumet, a fantastic director. Second

choice in this highly competitive year would be Peter O' Toole in MY FAVORITE

    YEAR.

  • ben kingsley = such a class...have you seen him in the Prince of Persia movie? he was still great...

  • he looks like fredo from the godfather

  • wow pretty sweet speech

  • great speech.. that's how it should be done.. shame he isn't white..

  • i have seen gandhi multiple times in school(im indian).

and i have seen shutter island atleast 5 times. but i never knew Ben Kingsley was in both of them! O_o until now!

  • john travolta looks quite hot in here actually! (:

  • Mahatma Gandhi FTW!!!!

  • John Travolta is old

  • 21 Douchebags 'dislike' this.

  • THEY ARE ALL GREAT AND NORMALLY I WOULD SAY DUSTIN HOFFMAN IS MY FAVORITE BUT THE WAY HE PLAYED GHANDI,THERE IS NO COMPETITION TO ME.

  • @JRRDPR its mahatma gandhi

  • oh man, what a humble and classy speech... one of the best Oscar speeches by far!

  • Hoffman's my winner.

  • The Greatest Best Actor Oscar Winners of All Time: 1. Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood (2007) 2. Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man (1988) 3. Robert De Niro, Raging Bull (1980) 4. Marlon Brando, The Godfather (1972) 5. Anthony Hopkins, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) 6. Ben Kingsley, Gandhi (1982) 7. Marlon Brando, On the Waterfront (1954) 8. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote (2005) 9. Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump (1994) 10. Jack Nicholson, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
  • John Travolta = horrible presenter!

  • Why John Travolta is presenter when he gives a shit what he is saying?! What a shame! There should be presenting someone who really does understand this moment is kind of special.

  • You'd have thought Paul Newman would win it with a reaction like that when his name was announced.

  • I like jack lemon ghandi was goin to win regardless cause its ghandi it was a difficult role and its funny i saw peter o toolo again lol lol lol

  • Should Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie have been nominated for Best Actor or Best Actress?

  • Why Is He Not That Tan Anymore.

  • Sexy Beast is an amazing role

  • Dustin Hoffman: "I won an Oscar for this? Wow. That's pathetic."

  • wow you just don't see class like that anymore in award wins. bravo, mr kingsley!

  • he's annoying.

  • @biteitoff

    jerk off

  • bad bad...that year was the oscar for newman!! veredict!!

  • Dustin Hoffman, Ben Kingsley, Jack Lemmon, Paul Newman, Peter O'Toole ... wow... fantastic Actors!!! forever

  • @Cokain3 Agreed!

  • nobody was gonna beat Kingsley that year...nobody.

  • please add how did million dollar baby win best picture

  • what happen to you man? you used to be so cool.

  • can u imagine the nerve of somebody to demnad u call him sir?

    lol no way

  • @pacholito24 did he actually demand someone call him sir lol? I thought ben was a stand up guy! :(

  • @jonny86121 no that is crap! it was a nasty piece of o called journalism by a red top newspaper if you can callit that...

  • what dirty moustaches in the 80s lol.

  • This is an extremely strong line-up. For me it's between Hoffman and Newman. Now I would give the award to Hoffman, because he's my favorite, but at the time I probably would have voted for Newman as he was Oscarless. Mostly it's a tie for me.

  • One of the best performances *ever*....

  • @warriorprince 1010 You're the world's greatest asshole if you believe that. I could bury you under statistics if you want - India's per capita GDP did not increase between 1757 and 1947, the literacy rate when the British left was 12%, the average life expectancy was 34 years, famines had killed ~30-50 million Indians during British rule and the English bled India dry, so that a nation which accounted for 22% of the world's GDP in the 1700s accounted for 1% in 1950.

  • I saw the movie last year. IT WAS PERFECT! I want to meet the real Gandhi!

  • @HL2NoLie well its a bit difficult....

  • @HL2NoLie well its a bit difficult...

  • Waow now these were movies !!!

  • We had to watch "Ghandi" in 7th grade and I thought I'd hate the movie...I LOVED IT!!!!

  • Funny how in 1982 and 2008 - two british films won 8 oscars including best picture - and both of them took place in India.

  • @Gunnarsas Yeah Indians should be proud of that

    Right Dumbass

  • @Gunnarsas Well... Observed!! However I think Slumdog Millionaire was new type of cinema for the Jury of Academy but it's not really a great movie.

  • @Gunnarsas and both years add up to equal 10. 1+9+8+2=2+0+0+8

  • @Gunnarsas haha wow i never noticed that! great spot

  • @Gunnarsas And one of them was shit, and it wasn't Gandhi!

  • @Gunnarsas : Both had leading actors of Indian Origin (Not the indians the Americans went looking for... lol) We like to call ourselves... "Hindustani"

  • That year had some great performances.

  • he's got chills

    they're multiplying

  • He looks way better now than he did back then

  • what a loser to not even mentions Gandhi's name in his acknowledgement speech! fuck his hypocrisy!

  • would it have killed him to thank Ghandi?

  • @sirenskeeper13 Thank Ghandi for what? He didn't help with the movie, they just based it on him. Ghandi should thank THEM.

  • What a voice he has, and what a marvelous actor he is.

  • Ben Kingsley is Ango-Indian.

  • Newman looks handsome!!!, but I ADORE Kingsley!!, he's awsome.....

  • He was so gracious about it, just like "Ghandi" would have been.

  • Holy cow, I forgot how handsome bastard Travolta was! I wish I looked like him.. haha

  • lol@Everyone going crazy around Paul newman when his name was mentioned but the man just remained as cool as ice epic !

  • Paul Newman was outstanding in "The Verdict" he should have won, but Kingsley nailed the role of "Ghandi", so it's fine to me... Kingsley was my second pick for winning.

  • Ben Kingsley looks older in 1983 than now. :)

    Great actor ever!

  • Newman was a pimp. Looks like 40yrs. old even though he was almost 60. Bad ass

  • pla put up de niro's win from the godfather

  • please put up de niro's oscar winning video for the godfather.

  • Well that was a hell of a year.....all great actors nominated for great movies, I'm sure it wasn't easy to choose one. The real problem is that today you will never see so many great movies being released the same year.

  • 0:18 WAS für ein ZINKEN!

  • probably one of the most elegant male actors in history

  • So hold on..you're meaning to tell me AL Pacino wasn't nominated for scarface? Joke Ting!

  • As an actor myself, portraying another person isn't as easy as it seems, but Kingsly nailed it.

  • class .....................

  • curious case of ben kingsley.

  • What a five legendary actors nominated that year. Ben Kingsley deserved.

  • have to say they got it spot on that year. Ben Kingsley channelled Gandhi in that performance.

  • My goodness, Gandhi was one of the greatest films of all time. Kingsley in the role of a lifetime. Well deserved award... and great kudos to the runners up. A strong year to be sure.

  • one of the most deserved Oscars in History

  • Peter O'Toole was ROBBED!

  • Paul Newman should've won this award. He was great in "The Verdict."

  • do you have any other clips from the 1983 oscars such as best score?

  • @blueduck99 we do have clips from the 1983 show. Your request will be added to the "request list" and we will do our best to post it in the near future.

  • @Oscars Do you have Francis Ford Coppola's win from 1974? Failing that, maybe Sam Mendes for American Beauty?

  • @Oscars are the wins for Robert Duvall, Juliette Binoche, Alan Arkin and both Jason Robards wins somewhere in the future?

  • @Oscars

Have you got Robert De Niro's Oscar winning speech for "The Godfather 2"? Thanks

  • Five icons nominated in five of their finest performances (well, BK was not yet an icon). Nobody knew in '82 that O'Toole could do comedy, Lemmon's finest work from latter part of career, Newman (who would win 4 years later) and Hoffman both reaffirming their brilliance. The only year that could match this was probably 1963: Peck (winner for Mockingbird), O'Toole (Arabia), Lemmon (Wine and Roses), Mastroianni (Divorce), and Lancaster (Birdman). I saw Ghandhi on school field trip, too.

  • Ben Kingsley looks older then than he does now

  • First starring role for Ben Kingsley. First time nomination for the Academy. Against heavy weights Dustin Hoffman, Jack Lemmon, Paul Newman, and Peter O'Toole. Ben Kinglsey won well-deservingly!! And the Academy get it right this time--awarding for the most deserving and not because it's long overdue or the popular vote. Kudos!!

  • Tootsie was the best

  • :39 george w. bush

  • It's hard to beat a martyr, look it up.

  • What a great category that year! All of them great (in that year and so many others), but I would have chosen Hoffman or Newman instead of Kingsley.

  • the sad fucking thing is Ben Kingsley, the man who won an Academy Award for playing Gandhi, has in recent years worked in a shitty Uwe Boll film and The Love Guru.

  • Paul Newman <3

what a year for the Best Actor nominations..... wow! anyone of them would of deserved to win.

  • LOL, thanks everyone but Gandhi

  • WTF is wrong with Travolta? he is so bad here, like he is in a hurry to run to the toilet.

  • He should've also won for "Sexybeast".

  • he looks younger now :) amazing

  • that shot of Paul Newman... he looks like he's never had sex before

  • kingsley, definitely.

  • this is the perfect acceptance speech, genius.

  • Ben Kinglsey was so good in Gandhi that when I think of Gandhi I see his face.

  • I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart!!

  • Newman deserved it.

  • holy shit john goes man fast win he call the nominations and the winner

  • Another lose for Peter O'Toole, but Richard Gere wasn't even nominated for An Officer and a Gentleman. Weird.

  • I can easily forgive him the Uwe Boll movie. Can't say i'd do that for many actors.

  • The song played when he is on the steps is , "Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram" .. Mahatma Gandhi's favourite song.

  • "Vaishnav Jan to" was his Favourite

  • @rohitaudipudi Yeah but it has been orchestrated.

  • Look at John Travolta's hair in the beginning, hehe! :)

I just watched Gandhi for a school assignment. It was amazing, as was Ben Kingsley.

  • An amazing year for best actor candidates

  • That speech was almost as boring as the movie, but fortunately not nearly as long.

  • great movie

  • wow, talk about a stacked field

  • ben´s cute..like the sweet look in his eyes

  • i was like cool the guy who played ghandi won, but when i heard his voice i was like YEAAHHH HES BRITTISH, brits are the best no doubt about it

  • Go on Ben...crack a smile...I dare ya

  • He's part jewish part hindu

  • What's really ironic is that in a movie about the freedom of India from British tyrrany, the East-Indian character was played by a British Actor.

  • actually, he is half indian. He was born Krishna Pandit Bhanji haha

  • @Kristian2006 i YA IT IS BUT HE MADE IT INCREDIBLE .I NEVER KNEW HE WAS A BRITISH TILL RECENT YEARS

  • @Kristian2006 Britih tyranny, hardly. The British built up India to a level that if they were still in charge now would be the number one super power. Remember under British rule India was far richer than it is now in relative terms.

  • But they didn't know when to let go.

  • Are you crazy dude? The British bled that country dry...THAT is colonialism...look it up.

    You're a freaking moron.

  • @warriorprince1010 Yes, we all thank you for oppressing us for 200 years, draining our economy and creating more divisions than already existed. I don't hold grudges against British people today for what their forefathers did, but I can't stand for your attitude. There were certain changes for the better as a result of British rule, but you can't overlook the monumental damage to the people and the land of India as a result of colonialism.

Kingsley's portrayal was flawless, though. :)

  • @xeshtaed There was no 'land of India' before British rule, just a gaggle of warring fuedal states.

  • @drunkest100 hey idiot, there was largest empire - Mauryan empire 2500 years ago when your ancestors were living in caves and deserts
