  • This is the music i was raised to believe fucking my sister in public was acceptable

  • @Gryffndor , you're a filthy jew, you'de do your sister without the bluegrass music in the back room at the sin-O-gog.

  • Yiiii haaaaa

  • 1:57 poppy mountain

  • stumble goog bye, this is music

  • "FANTASTIC !!! AWESOME !!! WE LOVE THIS !!!!!!" THANK YOU GUYS SOOOO MUCH !!! GOD BLESS YOU EACH ONE !

  • if you cant tap ya feet to this then you are one deaf motherf*****

  • Phenomenal banjo playing -- not just fast and clean, but this guy is playing his own stuff. The best I can do is copy others, but this guy is original.

  • Great band great tune

  • haha good

  • get it! fellas

  • iad lakem te try 'katie lay over close te the wall'' or the merry plough boy; the dubliners do a good version on here 1973,,,, but aye this outfit can play ...

  • they are good alright... but that there buoy a the Cruger brothers ,,,, be Jasaas but he can pick an bate on a banjo areckin.....

  • Love Dave's pickin' and the 'Hillbilly's chemistry'..they definitely got it goin' on...Yee-Haa! Can hardly wait to see them again live-I admire these guys!...yes, Earl would be proud ;-)

  • whooooo weeeee! that is some fast strumming and picking!!!!! love it you guys were burning up there! you are my new favs!

  • Comment removed

  • That's the classiest banjo I've heard in a long time. You've made Earl proud, I bet!

  • Where are all the redneck Loveline callers when we need them?! Im just kidding yall!

  • some of the finest banjoin' I've heard, am I hearing some string bean influence in there?!?!

  • Heck Yeah Boyz!

  • awsome job, i like bluegrass played fast like this

  • Awesome!!!

  • There's nothing wrong with playing songs with a different flavor than the original, otherwise you are listening to the same some over and over. It keeps it fresh and exciting. I don't know why all you naysayers keep chiming in with negative vibes man. They could very easily play the Earl Scruggs, note for note version of that song, but why? I can tell with out the man saying that it's Shuckin the Corn. With out keeping the old stuff exciting, how will we generate interest from younger fans?

  • The guy can pick, no doubt about it, and there's nothing wrong with putting a different twist in an old classic, but not when it sounds NOTHING like the original. This is a good tune and they should rename it something for themselves, but with all due respect, "it AIN'T SHUCKIN' THE CORN!"

  • those guys are damn good pickers!!!

    @tyme4mike

something is wrong with your ears dude! this definitely is chuckin'the corn :)

  • bigmrclean, don't be a dik! You are not only rude, but you obviously suffer from some kind of mental retardation son. I happen to know these folks well, and Dave is a class A banjo picker, amongst many other string instruments. My Mama always said if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. You are entitled to your opinion, but the fact that you went out of your way to insult this guy with a smart ass comment, proves your an idiot.

  • I want to learn how to play the banjo!

  • Fantastic 5 string playing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5555555************* + fave!

    Congratulation!!!! (from Hungary)

I can,t stand melodic style but the way this guy plays that too, more than excellent!!!!

  • Interesting twist an an old tune. Good job.

  • Earl probably threw up when he seen this. They must be giving banjo contests away in west virginia...course we are talking about west virginia.

  • to be honest, banjo, guitar and fiddle contest don't prove anything, if your lucky to win one doesn't mean your the best in the world. it just proves you may of been the best in that contest. everyone has their own style. its a matter who style they like best, its not always who is the best, and not all the best are in that contest.

  • Now you actually left a comment I can agree with. Not sure why the rest were removed. I know that from these videos that Dave has a different playing style when he played in the competition than he is playing here in this vid.. Just search "Banjo Contest Winner Vandalia 2008" and give it a try.. Same banjo player but a different style.. In my opinion anyway.. Besides If you notice.. this footage is a few years old and all of these folks in this group have progressed and improved as musicians.

  • Comment removed

  • That all you got??? Nice comeback bud! hahaha..

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha... Yet another ignorant statement on youtube.. Go figure.. You obviously aren't familiar with the pickin' contests in West Virginia bud! Some top notch musicians there!! Look up the Vandalia gathering banjo contest vids on youtube.. Dave's 2008 competition vid is on there for both banjo and mandolin. The way I see it.. Put up or shut up.. If you ain't got no proof of yer own pickin' skills the don't go around putting other people down!! Put up a vid and then run yer mouth bud!

  • @therealcrazyhammer Damm right ! And wait about 5 years, and I'll upload mi fiddle video...

    Keep at it boys !!!

  • Wow... your grammar is terrible! I was under the impression that kids aren't supposed to have accounts here. I guess mental ages don't count. I will say is this - at least these people are doing something with their lives other than sitting around bitching and moaning about trivial things, unlike someone I could mention. Love to hear you play sometime and see how good you are - skin flute doesn't count, although something tells me you're probably a pro as the ladies don't care much for you. ;)

  • That comment was directed towards bluegrasssingingman who apparently likes to talk trash and then delete his own ignorant comments... hehehe.

  • Well fellas i'm sorry to offend you. I didn't know we were dealing with people so full of useful knowledge. Must be pro.

  • hahaha... That's funny man! Don't think Earl cares too much about that sort of thing buddy. And besides if everyone played it like Earl the bluegrass scene would get pretty bland. Dave doesn't try to play like anyone but himself. To say he sucks just shows your ignorance. He's the 2008 West Virginia state bluegrass banjo champ and also took 2nd on the mandolin the same year. Not too shabby if you ask me. What have you done besides sit at home on you computer and criticize other peoples talents?

  • @MrTall270 - It is opinions like this that has held back bluegrass from progressing for years. Bands like this one and others (Yonder Mountain String Band, etc) have finally come around and put a new spark in bluegrass music. Earl, in fact, loves seeing bluegrass songs, both his own and others, performed in new light and new playing styles. I totally agree with Trae Buckner's comments. You are ignorant to say the least.

  • @MrTall270 Yeah....In a nutshell. If I could I would thumbs up you infinite to show your comment above all others. I stumbled upon this crap accidentally...It's not taking me long to stumble away from it either.

  • how come... I just don't think that's Shuckin' the Corn"

  • i dont think its fast enough. :P some heinous good banjo pickin, for sure.

  • wow dave thats fast lol and cool song

  • Happy poppy! i was up there today on a medic run for some guy who busted his head open...other than that..I LOVE POPPY!! place kicks ass...always fun no matter what!

  • YEEEEE HAW!

  • From High Desert NV YOU GUYS are really good! Enjoyed it.

  • jus' curyus, how old is thet girl y'all sing wis?

  • amen brother! TraeBuckner, i too am frum west virginia, and im a hillbilly and

DAMN PROUD OF IT TOO! y'all is ma fayvurite band! keep on keepin' on!!!!

  • Mikeyboy, clearly you have little experience with Dave. He's freaking awesome.

  • didnt much care for the banjo player, but that fiddle player tore it up...listen to the BLUE MOON RISING version, its much better

  • You've got to be kidding...Dave Asti is unbelievable!

  • hillbillys are awesome, my fave music

  • This band is absolutely fantastic as a modern-day bluegrass outfit. They very successfully manage to keep alive the classic bluegrass-genre spirit & tradition of the late 40s to mid 60s when bluegrass was at its very finest. What I'd really love to see this band do, in forward- evolution terms. is to slowly, one step at a time, ALSO move into the genre of genuine, classic, good-old-fashioned, 'pure' traditional "Old Time Stringband" music - as well as their excellence in the Bluegrass genre.

  • you mean evolve into an actualy human ?? :o

  • Man, those guys are good!!!

  • killin em on that banjo and the fiddle...

  • Wow that was crazy sweet! But banjo man was my favorite. Yeehaa! Y!ou guys did work on them instruments

  • i like the funny hick accent... very realistic sounding... they are extremaly convincing towards how hick like they seem. I almost actually thought they were hicks! but i no there to cool to be hicks

  • Hey now... I'm the guy on the guitar and doin' the talkin' in this vid and I can assure you that the way I talk is the way I talk.. haha.. Seriously though.. We're all from West Virginia and some of us talk that way around here.. One thin is fer sure.. I'm a hillbilly and damn proud of it! Glad to know someone thinks we're cool though.. lol

  • i know them

  • thats some serious pickin

  • Good job fella's I'd love to know how much Raymond Fairchilds that banjo picker has listened to, that's the first thing I thought of when I heard it.Just put it in my favorites.

  • for the love of God hotdiggity damn!

  • That dude made my fingers catch on fire.

  • very nice

  • now lets slow things down a little bit and do something like train 45

  • this is a song about corn?

  • I vote that the best comment!

  • Guitar I can play (reasonably well) I tried banjo once and immediately got an inferiority complex after listening to this man play.

  • awe common u can do it faster than that cantcha?lol wow amazing.

  • Why can't you just enjoy the music without bringing race, politics, nationality etc into it?

  • You may find that this music is heavily influenced by the black slaves brought over by the whites. And I don't need to be black nor American to tell you this - just intelligent.

  • you're an idiot

  • That comment was in response to a "die niggaz" white power comment that has since been removed. So settle down.

  • wwoow this was amazing. i wish i could play liike that.

  • Great music... Buuuut, mr. banjo picker, give the fiddle guy a chance and soften your backup/vamping...

  • I'm really sorry for the stupid thing I said...

But I've seen many live performances were they didn't have a mandolin so I assumed...bummer.

    Sorry again.

  • Curly Seckler, Everette Lilly and Curly Lambert were among the mandolin players in The Foggy Mountain Boys with Lester and Earl......mk

  • Flatt & Scruggs never used a mandolin either, in case you haven't noticed...

  • what was that insturment on Earls Breakdown after the second fiddle break ibelieve that was Lilly Curley seckler took some breaks on the mercury and early

  • And without the chop of mandolin to keep the rhythm together...amazing.

  • One of the most talented banjo players I've seen in a LONG time. I love how he keeps the melody moving so smoothly even though he's changing up the style. I loved the kick by the fiddle player to get him past the scratch in the record. An absolutely wonderful performance. I've already listened to it at least 20 times in a row.

  • I was born in Huntington, raised in Beckley, and went to college in Morgantown. Can't wait to get back to WV to see you guys! Awesome!

    Come to L.A.!!

  • Nice...

  • DAMN THAT WAS GOOD! That's about the next best thing to Earl! Shit, what kind of banjo you got? Sounds great. I LOVED the melodic banjo breaks!

  • Suckin the corn? I'll say11!!~

  • WOW!

  • yay!!!XD banjo!!!!

  • holy coboli, dudes!! Great stuff

  • You guys are really great-don't worry- Earl will love it. Send him a tape.

  • Gasp!! They have blaspehemed the great Earl Scruggs by daring to be different!! How dare they?? (All this said with righteous indignation) ha ha Lighten up folks! These guys flat tore this tune up and you know it. Earl hisself would tell you that too. If everybody played like Earl then it would be pretty boring indeed! Great job guys, I would love to see ya'll live sometime!

  • Stonewort....This guy is pretty good, but not even close the Earl of Scruggs. I heard a ton of mistakes and finger farts.

  • No one is trying to be better than Scruggs. It's impossible to even entertain such thoughts. But, to even be mentioned in the same sentence with him is an honor.

btw- Those finger farts were improvisational incidentals. ;-)

  • sorry, no one play it better than Earl Scruggs did..

  • Maybe not but Granada 90 comes as close as any one I have ever heard. Make no mistake though this dude takes a back seat to no one.

  • Go guys Go !!!!

  • how does that lad play so fast?

  • Outstanding band! Tight & fast.... and this picker plays Shuckin' the Corn better than Earl ever did...

  • great, thanks for the music
