This was a brilliant way to make the announcement. If Mr. Pitchford came out with his head down and profusely apologized, or somehow tried to shift the blame to non-executives, the reaction from fans and the press would probably be a lot worse. Instead, Gearbox made the announcement with a sense of humor about the situation and themselves, reminded fans that the developers really are hard at work, and even left the door open for another delay if the need should arrive. This is PR at it's best.
