  • Swimmers ear is caused by a microbe feeding on earwax; this is near pure cholesterol and can be prevented by a low fat diet high in fresh fruit and salads. So the second best way to prevent swimmers ear is to clean most earwax from both ears before entering the water. Wearing earplugs or using hydro peroxide solutions is NOT so much prevention as suppressing the symptoms.

Well knowing the kind of swiming you did in australia, I belive this is the advise from an expert

  • Mr. Toriello does an expert job in teaching the key concepts in swimming. When it comes to "preventing" swimmers ear, Mr. Toriello may consider that paying attention to removing the main "'cause"" of swimmers ear will go a long way in it's prevention. Swimmers ear occurs when conditions are created for a microbe to multiply in the outer ear canal. The only way this can occur is if there is a ""food source"" for the microbe.

  • @z914 lmao, well said bud : )

  • Not all aquatic activities. If you use ear plugs while scuba diving, you will be in a whole new world of pain.

thumps up to help people skip adds!

  • @Blackart3D or press f5

  • @z914 haha right!

  • After building up to swimming for 40 minutes non-stop I've had to stop swimming completely. Plugs, both silicone & putty don't seem to help. The earaches are too much so I started using the treadmill for cardio workouts.

  • the problem with ear plugs is that the day you don't have the ear plugs and you go into the water you will get an ear infection... friendly advice from a lifeguard i know. best thing to do is tilt your head to the side and back and eventually the water will come out.

  • i had swimers ear and used ear drops and took 5 days to feel beter.

  • thanks man i gotta get them i have swimmer's ear i was like WHY DID I GO SWIMMING

  • If you get swimmer's ear, I heard that if you put the ear with water in it into the pool, then the water will come out...

...but that might just be that there gravity at work.

  • omg i have the exact same one at 0:25

  • im a ear kid wich means that i had alot of infection and shit in my ears as child and now i have gotten 2 swimmer ear in less then a month and it hurts so badly and i so much love to swim some one got a tip ?

  • you should try a swimmers ear candle (not sure about the name) it uses heat to get the water out of your ear, and doesn't hurt at all (it might hurt if you already have it but not sure)

  • umm..... first of all YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO PUT ANYTHING IN YOUR EAR!!!!! O WELL

  • i thought ear plugs trapped water in the earn

  • You're NOT supposed to stick our fingers in your ear. any doctor would definitely agree. Please update this video. It is misleading and may lead to more people getting swimmer's ear. Which hurts a lot! :(

  • The new Howcast vid pwns this one.

  • The "pinky" method is an awful one, according to the ENT doctor I once saw.. he said you basically push the wax and stuff further up the ear canal, and make the problem worse. that's what i did, which got me to the EN&T in the first place.

  • the best way is "not to swim at all"... lol.

  • what a dickhead

  • what a dickhead comment.

  • DICKHEAD!!!!! YAY!!! rando 0.o
