  • wow! I just realized...as simple as the lyrics are, this song is a whole history lesson of America ....

The first version of the song, deals with the Indians crossing the Bering Strait from Siberia into what is now Alaska. So, 1 little, 2 little, 3 little indians is the population growth as they migrate from Siberia

The Second verse deals with the time period when Europeans came to America. 10 little, 9 little, 8 little indians is the decrease in population! And now! no little indian boys!

  • Agatha Christie Brought me here....the Book And Then There Were None...this song is not done...all the indians disappear one by one and die because of mysterious reasons....

  • 70 of u just been captured by those 10 indians!!!

  • 0:25 is when it has a beat haha its my favorite part of the song XD

  • nejlepší nám to pouštěj ve škole na plá tně!

  • I believe everyone should watch the canary effect to help educate them selves a little bit on the subject....

  • NOrCalGhost, really!! You need to go fall on your PC head!

  • THEIR GUYS?!

    Omg..

  • One little two little three little white boys four little five little six little white boys seven little eight little nine little boys ten little White boys.

  • I think this song should be buried in the 1900s. they're not Indians.

  • One little two little three little indian four little five little six little indians seven little eight little nine little indians ten little indian girls

  • I believe the preferred nomenclature is 'native Americans'.

  • This is a classic american nursery rhyme. I hope all you people who cried racist die, you are whats wrong with america

  • @N0rCalGhost This classic American nursery rhyme is full of racist stereotypes. What is new? The teepees, the war bonnet, the hand over the mouth, the face paint.... I could go on. Of course, it is just a nursery rhyme! Its not like American children are going to grow up thinking this is what constitutes an Indian. No, not all. This is what is wrong with America. Nursery rhymes like this.

  • @yh4mmz I'll bet you're one of those losers sitting out there in occupy trying to point out flaws in a system you don't understand

  • @N0rCalGhost It is you who are failing to realize the point I made. It goes deeper than policies. I was getting at how society and our culture influences how we interact with people of different cultures. These feelings and ideas that form cause the policies on how we deal with them. On a side note, I am not participating on occupy, and using that as an argument just makes you look like a fool.

  • @yh4mmz you've said nothing coherent and made no arguements towards anything you're just tutting the trendy "politically correct" bandwagon. I'm glad that makes you feel smart.

  • @N0rCalGhost Yeah, because wishing people dead for different opinions is so much better than "trendy political correct-ness". Who else killed people because the thought, acted and looked different in history?

If you have never taken a sociology or ethics class, I recommend it because then you WOULD understand my argument. Who makes policies? Christian white men (in the beginning of America). What was their world view? Christians white men were superior to everything. Look up social Darwinism.

  • @yh4mmz oh and also could you please enlighten me as to what goes deeper than policy? I'm eager to know because all my schooling I've ever gotten says that nothing does. How we interact with other cultures is the epitome of a policy issue. Dumbass...

  • @N0rCalGhost All right, so now that you have some background, let's think logically. I know, I know it is a leap for you, but hang in there. So now we know that policies makers are racist, and they make racist policies. How do they get racist and learn stereotypes? By society. What examples in society are racist and cause stereotypes? Ten Little Indians.

  • @yh4mmz Even if I thought that mattered, which I don't, I'd find it hard to see the direct causal connection between children's nursery rhymes and policy makers creating "racist policies." Ten Little Indians brings back memories of the great American past, ideas and pieces of American culture that pre-date any of us and remind everyone of the frontier days that crafted idea of the "American dream" which seems to be dying, ironically at the hands of the people who should be protecting it

  • @N0rCalGhost American culture develops with time, with each generation. It is not static, just as Indian culture is not static. The song itself is not racist. I suppose it is used to teach children to count up to 10. Whatever. The video that is with it gives the impression that that is what Native American culture IS. What you see in the video, is not any Indian culture that exists. It is the White Man's Indian.

  • @N0rCalGhost The connection between children's nursery rhymes and politics is simple. If you grow up thinking "that's Indian culture" you don't understand TRUE indian culture. So the policies that are made, with the best intentions, end up hurting and alienating Indians. Examples: basically any government policy from 1860s - 1970s. Ignorance can really hurt people, as can stereotypes. I think we are on a road to good things in this country. (I agree, some political correctness can get silly)

  • @N0rCalGhost Anyway, I feel like a troll posting so many times. I am just saying, try to consider this from an educated point of view. Past experiences show that American ignorance ends up creating policies that decimate, alienate and hurt Indian (or any race) culture. Education is key to get past this. When you hear/read something and you think "@)#)@, I know best" Try to think of it from the opposite view (actually research it) that way, you will learn and make informed decisions.

  • this song is illegal!!!!!!

  • This song is very degrading to Native Americans!!!! True fact: this song is what was used to count us and then kill us. I HATE THIS SONG!!! I'm sure whoever put this on here thinks its just cute because they were taught this song in pre or elementary school. I liked it until I learned the truth.

  • Ooooi

  • SLMNVJ

  • little racist but my kid loves it...

  • I thought they were all girls and wouldnt they prefer to be called Natives. D:

  • @44mada Native boys and men wear long hair often. Learn to see things with more respect, humanity is very diverse and we don't all live under the same standards. We are not Indians but Natives, you are right but many indigenous peoples still use the term Indian created by the genocidal Christopher Columbus.

  • i dunt know whats wrong with ppl , but i think these are really cute and useful !

  • lol I guess "10 Little Native Americans" wouldn't flow as nicely.

  • How can I download this video to share with my kindergarten class in China?

  • This is the original by Septimus Winner: 10 little injuns standin in a line 1 toddled home and then there were 9 9 litlle injuns swingin on a gate 1 tumbled off and then there were 8 1 little, 2 little, 3 little, 4 little, 5 little injun boys. 6 little, 7 little, 8 little, 9 little, 10 little injun boys. 8 little injuns gayest under heavn 1 went to sleep and then there were 7 7 little injuns cuttin up there tricks 1 broke his neck and then there were 6 6 little injuns all alive.....

  • When the european people showed up, it was: "Ten little, nine little, eight little Indians

Seven little, six little, five little Indians

Four little, three little, two little Indians

    One little Indian boy."

  • ... and I'm sorry, but I think it's stupid. What will be next? One little Jew, two little Jews...?

    Nowadays the Education is ignorant.

  • Why don't they sing Native Americans or First Americans or Indigenas if it's educational counting...? Children shouldn't be taught stereotypes.

    I don't know, maybe I'm wrong...

  • its not racist! its like counting people!

  • Ten little soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine; Nine little soldier boys sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were eight; ......... Awesome book... nuff said (thought this would relate to it but not really...)

My nephew loves them too, many thanks for sharing♥

  • This is so racist

  • what the heck!!

  • Vgb

  • Four little "Injuns" out upon a spree, One dead drunk and then there were three; Three little "Injuns" out on a canoe, One tumbled overboard and then there were two. (Chorus) Two little "Injuns" foolin' with a gun, One shot t'other and then there was one; One little "Injun" livin' all alone, He got married and then there were none.

This is not racist? Injun is replaced by Indians, and what we heard is from the chorus of "ten little Injun"

  • lol, i guess they haven't actually seen a real 'indian' ..

    WERE BROWN..

  • my 9 month old baby loves this :)

  • Can I download these songs somewhere? I have two young students and I think they'd enjoy them really much, but at their place we don't have Internet connection, so we can't watch it from youtube. Or could you send them to me in e-mail???

  • Love this video!!! Life Has become so sterile with all the political correctness! This is refreshing and cute.

  • @snowdropangela

I am not PC, but we DO need some social analysis. This song originated from the European invaders. They would sing this song as they murdered the First Nations people in cold blood. Not so cute when you consider it in context of the dark history of our nation.

  • @caseyspaos I disagree. WE dont need a social analysis, WE need a Child one.See,children who watch this video, dont learn the dark history of their nation, they actually learn how to COUNT. How to decorate numbers singing them! Not how to kill someone! More, hearing this song NEVER become them aggressive! That's their education ... I'm 21 and all I can see is people who actually think like u do, should need people as I: Discording and explainning why am I discording ones. =) hav a happy life (=

  • @caseyspaos a PS: (I kinda like them's ahahah kiddin') you learn history much latter n u do not listen this kind of songs anymore, even if u were still young to all the rest of the people in the world, AND, when u become to listen this kind'of songs again, you are NO LONGER YOUNGER... U have kids or work with them or, for some reason, u were zapping and stopped by Panda Channel... =) So...this kind'of music NEVER could be named as Racism ONE... its a shild song... a learning music! NOTHING ELSE

  • @Marynha11

You are mistaken. The song is not merely teaching how to count. When trusted adults sing this with children they are teaching them that the word Indian is totally OK. It is not OK. It is racist and offensive. Would you sing 10 little N****r Boys? Of course not, because it is an offensive racist name. You seem to be working hard at being naive.

  • @caseyspaos

C, "Indian" cannot be taken as if it were a race. Yes, it's a race. But in the music, the word is just a way to demonstrate they r people like us. and also to help children train vocal more familiars sounds (little indian). The Child who sing this song, never shall regard, I repeat, the race of people, but the decoration of the numbers. This is behavioral psychology and rational too. But u have ur reason, even if is not fully justified.

  • @Marynha11

    Indian is not a race

We are all human one race

What people think of as race is just Ethnic Backgrounds.

  • @caseyspaos

same goes for many of the historical stories.

If you look at ring around the rosy easy one for the folks.

    Little mermaid the original story

    red riding hood the original

so there is a dark side to everything. Heck even cinderella the sisters cut of their feet to fit in the shoe. All these dark sides everywhere. The key point is to see it more for what it has become rather than keep drudging up things that a huge part of the population has fogotten.

  • @caseyspaos well said

  • @caseyspaos The song was written in the 1860's and was not racist. Someone doing something terrible while singing a song doesn't make the song terrible. It wasn't the symbol of some racist movement. There's nothing wrong with the song in the same way there's nothing racist about the U.S. Army even though they slaughtered tens of thousands of native Americans.

  • @WTHNoSpam LOL! I can't work out whether you are being serious or ironic! I would consider genocide pretty darn racist! As far as the history of the song goes, according to Wikipedia, it was originally a count off as various "Injuns" met their demise. Anyway, why does a children's song need to focus on any race at all, let alone two in one song? (It insults Native Americans and people of India).

  • @caseyspaos but I see at as a denounce. At the time it might have been with a lot of black humour, no one except a killer can sing 10 to 0 indians without getting the chills...

  • @caseyspaos that is just not true! why say something you don't know?? for dramatic effect?? :O The original was written by Septimus Winner in 1868 for a minstrel show. This is just an adaptation of his much more detailed song ''10 little injuns''. He used injuns instead of indians.

At least know history before you say something like that. And who would believe that soldiers really sung that while they were killing people?? Come on, this world is already too PC don't add fuel to this fire!!

  • @snowdropangela if you're not native it's refreshing and cute.

  • @thenettispaghetti Not an indian you mean.

  • @Oleerkilass no i was right the first time. thanks for trying to correct me. indian is a name given to indigenous peoples by the colonizers. it's not something i call myself.

  • @thenettispaghetti No it is a name given to you by the rest of the world. Just as I cal myself "norsk" and you cal me a norwegian.

  • @snowdropangela You're implying that political correctness is is something to be ignored...

  • i remember my teacher playing this song in Kinder!
