Kristen has such a sweet, angelic voice, I love her so much, she's so awsome! I love seeing her on tour, this is one of my fav songs!!!!!!!!!! Going in favs!!!
I hate to say this but, Mia who toured with TSO in 2007 probably had the best range for this particular piece. I've seen them every year they have come to NY(Albany) & she just blew my doors off. Was disappointed when she was not w/the band this year.
Yes, this is from Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Thanks to Jon Oliva's extensive use of orchestral music with Savatage, TSO really shows their stuff when it comes to classical music. Plus, Al Pitrelli and Chris Caffrey were classically trained on the guitar. Sava-thanks for posting this great vid!
that kind of range isn't just talent. that takes so much work. listen to her control. perfect pitch. there are so many singers born into it, and so few like her that have trained so hard.
I just came back from this concert (IZON 2008! NJ) AND ITS WAS AMAZING! THIS SONG AND THAT KICK ASS DRUM SOLO STUCk OUT FOR ME! (NOT TO MENTION STEVEN TYLER!)
CHECK OUT THE ORIGINAL... T.S.O... Also known as... SAVATAGE.. THE REAL DEAL!!!! Just Google... SAVATAGE... YEP... THE REAL DEAL!!! CRISS OLIVA... Perhaps the most... UNDERRATED GUITARIST EVER!!! LONG LIVE THE 'TAGE!!!!
This band is something else. Very very impressive work. I get the feeling it would get old after a while but am DEFINITELY going to see them live next chance I get.

The only meaningful Christian prog rock I've heard is Ramses (Space Hymn) from the early 70s (with Godley & Creme). I'm a huge Electric Light Orchestra fan, too, and this is just about the lamest orchestral/classical rock I've ever heard. Making their career on overblown Christmas music? At least ELO also knew how to get funky, Jeff Lynne had sense of humor (and one of THE AMAZING rock voices), and he never came across as such a wanking guitar soloist!
this is an amazingly talented group of people who are taking on traditional christmas music and turning it into something different. they are making it more apealing to the younger generation of today. its sad that you cant see that and its such a shame that u feel the way u do about this amazing band.
the only lame thing i see is your criticism....why don't you go blow Mr. Lynne since you obviously got the hots for him. Also, these guys did not make their career on "overblown Christmas music"...they had careers before this

OH NO!... BRO!!! SAVATAGE WAS THE MUCH BETTER BAND!!! CRISS OLIVA... Well.... We all know that story... Great man he was on his...instrument! I still watch Savatage video's... And at the end... My friggin mouth is just hanging... OPEN!!! Even at 47 years of age... Criss was 1 (ONE) Of the most talented!!

What a wank-fest! If this is what Christmas has turned into, give me some neo-Pagan death metal church burning freaks caked over in white face and dripping black eye makeup. This is absolutely horrendous, and an insult to classical music, good Christmas music, and good prog rock (e.g., I'm a big fan of Ayreon and Arjen's Star One project, which has plenty of hair and extended guitar jams, but at least its original). This just blows!
Get over yourself, pharmnut or whatever the hell you call yourself. Talk about close-minded. TSO is awesome. If you don't like them then why are you here? Typicall troll.

My wife went to see them with some friends, and my folks keep telling me I should go see them, so I had to check them out, at least online. My wife was less-than-impressed by the style of music, but said the light show was impressive. My comments were snippy, I admit, but I guess this just doesn't cut it for me when it comes to my idea of what the holiday season is all about. Too glitzy and over-the-top and not spiritually meaningful.
not spiritually meaningful - Sorry but spiritually meaning is from the heart; God gave these musicians and they are using it; it you listened to the words it is another way he is using people to spread the message of Christ's birth.
Couldn't agree more! I am usually listening to Medieval chant this time of year, but I make an exception for TSO and a few others. The thing about their music is the talent and the intense charity, it literally burns so wildly one has to weep.
For those of you who don't know, these types of bands were around in the 70's. This looks and sounds very much like something Esperanto would do. They had a string section instead of a lead guitar. Pete Sinfield of King Crimson produced them. A shame that X-mas music is the only last frontier of prog musicians. :-(
omg. we have one of their CD's playing at where i work and the sound she's making, i could of sworn it was a instrument or sound machine of some kind.
Two more days until I get to see them for the 6th time! <3 It's been a family tradition to go see TSO every year since 2002. Best family tradition ever!
i just got back from there show and i loved it so much like im dead serious, when you say your going to see the TSO pple who dont know the name look at you wierd but thats cause they have heard the songs and not the name. Once you hear the TSO you look at orchestras in a whole new light lol
This was my first Trans-Siberian Orchestra experience and I must say I enjoyed it! Good stuff... I can see why it has 5 stars. They are playing close to me in the near future, perhaps I will attend =) Thanks for posting
Yes Sonofzion, I was wondering why on earth Al was sitting down until my friend with me pointed out his left leg. With all the lights going on I had not seen his leg until then. Poor man indeed. I'm still wondering how on earth he hurt so much of himself just jumping down one level! anyway as I said, they just rocked and can't wait to see them again. I never get tired of hearing them.. take care..
I just saw them on November 8th At Key Arena in Seattle. The show was the best I've ever seen. They played for almost 3 hours and the lights, energy and running around the stage and into the audience was just amazing. I can't wait for next year to see them again. It is worth any priced ticket to go. I am so ready for Christmas now!!
I saw them at GM Place in Vancouver the day before and it was my first time seeing them in person and indeed I was amazing by how well the production was. I got the cheapest tickets for not bad seats amazingly and it was definatly worth the money, concidering all that electricity used.
I just like saw this a few hours ago. They where running alover the place. It was in Seattle and I think it was the best. My dad will see it soon too. And I know I will see them next year. If they come back...
This is Danielle Landherr singing on this vid from a previous tour. I was at the show last night in Vancouver and the girl singing this Queen of the Night didn't impress me. As a former coloratura myself, this aria requires a crystal clear soprano and her voice was ust too thick. I'm so sorry that Jennifer Cella and Danielle Landherr were not on this tour. Absolutely hands down the best show out there. It ROCKED!
I was hoping that Anna Phoebe was there in vancouver too.. She kicked ass! I kind a like the set up last year.. Awesome show still! Poor Al Pitrelli was injured :(

Hate to be the spoil sport but this would only be spectacular if it was in the original key. Any soprano can sing the above notes all day long. But the original key was what made the Queen of the Night aria really difficult, in F, right on the break to the register, making it easy to crack on the high F. That's why only a select few can sing the original aria. But other than that it's a great song.
actually simon cowl himself could with enough training. if you have a decent voice and are just naturally in the same tone range. it just takes repetition to match any vocal score.
sorry about the bad comment and i am NOT saying that Trans-Siberian Orchestra is bad im just saying that they rule the dang world k good and im not being mean
Well, not bad lighting, it's just that when I saw them, the centre had waaaay too many lights, and so I guess I was expecting more than what they had here.
No matter how bad the others sounded, the one we saw was a little itty bitty thang and she sounded as amazing as the recording but this one is a little better...but just a little.
I guess this song was only sung on with the west coast tour cause I went to the December show in Richmond and it wasn't played! Kinda upset that it wasn't
lol this must me the original recording over a video b/c no singer is that awesome live lol. no offense to TSO or anything, but i think it's kind of funny.
That's Danielle, one of the members of the female portion of the group. And she's far more attractive in person, I know. :-D I had the opportunity to meet her on Thursday night in Raleigh.
In this video are Al Pitrelli (guitar), and his wife Jane Mangini (keyboards), Jon Oliva (piano), Paul O'Neill (guitar), Chris Caffery (guitar), Danielle Landherr (vocals) NOT Jennifer Cella, Jeff Plate (drums), and I cant tell who is on bass... it is also definately a recording from a tv show, not a live performance in an arena. I think that covers all the questions that I see on the comments...
You can tell this wasn't on tour. The tour groups are mixed up. Most of them I think are on the east tour, such as: Paul O'Neill (guitar), Chris Caffery (guitar), and Jennifer Cella (vocals). However, Al Pitrelli (guitar) and Jane Mangini (female keyboardist) are west tour. This was probably at a charity event or something on TV. Last year I saw them do something for a BBC channel.
Anyway, this rocks, and Jen Cella has an incredible voice. Can't wait to see them live Dec. 9th.
Also this is synced over with the song from the track in the live show the guitar isn't that dead on like that you can hear it still going a bit. In this it stops instantly.
this is filmed during a rehearsal, that's why there's no crowd, multiple cameras and no one is moving around on stage...also, the narrator aint their chillin' on stage like he is in the actual show
TSO is Awesome...probably some of the best live performers around. However, it IS obvious that they are not playing this live. If you watch closely at the very end (3:01), you will see drummer Jeff Plate miss the last piece.
Thats not Kristen singing this song..this is Danielle Landherr. Her and Jennifer Cella are my favs of the Group.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra 4-ever!! I love all songs of TSO^^

In this it stops instantly.

im guessing your right,
seeing as how live recordings suck

I saw them on the 9th in St. Louis. They were awesome.

this is filmed during a rehearsal, that's why there's no crowd, multiple cameras and no one is moving around on stage...also, the narrator aint their chillin' on stage like he is in the actual show
5 stars

greatest live show ever, saw them last saturday at Copps in Hamilton

TSO is Awesome...probably some of the best live performers around. However, it IS obvious that they are not playing this live. If you watch closely at the very end (3:01), you will see drummer Jeff Plate miss the last piece.
jhammond318 4 years ago
but if you listen, you can tell that though he did miss the last piece there was no drum.
