@labartic: Before you start fucking about them lipsyncing, listen to the original record. Shirley has never lipsynced. If the sound isn't excactly timed with the image, then that sucks. But you shouldn't bitch like that, cause you're talking bullshit. Listen to the fucking original song and stop moaning.

Sorry, but I have to call bull on you on that one. The band had to mime at the beginning of the BG tour because of 9/11 importing laws, they couldn't get their equipment, and towards the end of the BG tour when Shirley and Butch were in the hospital. I have also seen a few tv appearances where they've mimed.

Are they bad for doing that? No. But has Shirley lipsynched before? Yes. Is she doing it here? No. They're filtering her voice.

for the record, I don't find this to be one of their best performances. But it's TOTP, how much can you expect. I like to hear them totally live. Some effects are fine, but nothing too distorting. I prefer acoustic in general

That 'filter' is an effect which adds to the beauty of the 'live' vocals & makes her superhuman sounding. Garbage is GREAT live-Some of these songs are 'studio' songs which must translate live using this technology .

they've never needed technology to 'translate' their studio songs. The've been known for leaving a lot of the tricks in the studio and taking on a harder live sound, wich I love

I have actually seen them live, several times & they always used this 'technology" which did 'translate' to resemble the studio versions. It's quite obvious. I am a musician & believe me, the sequencer/backing track is working overtime & the sound man adds just the right 'filtering' touches to Shirley's voice, in all the right places, which 'translates' it quite well. I urge U to attend one of their shows & you will see. Never say never!

I saw them live in Detroit, smart-ass, and I've seen and heard copious amounts of recordings of their live performances. Having an echo filter over her voice doesn't translate the song, it just makes her amplified voice sound different. And they rarely tweak the filter during the performances unless a change in the song calls for it. My only point was that they don't NEED extra effects to translate live, not to say that they never use ANY. So yeah... read before you respond, maybe.

Well,whether or not they NEED2 use such effects, the fact is-they DO. There's no point in arguing facts. Shirley might not make up 2 look pretty either, BUT SHE DOES wear it. My comments were responding 2 the poster who made fun of the 'filter'This song is a perfect example. Notice how the echo n the chorus & the 'filter'on verse, thus "making the voice sound different" thus'translating' the song, so take that, poodle patch!

you didn't refute a thing. They use technology, yes. They have never NEEDED it, in my opinion. That's what I've said since post 1. They've played acoustic before, and they play well as a band live. The effects are cool, but they don't need them. The argument is stupid, anyway, because we both agree that they're great live lol.

-Garbage is great live, & although they don't NEED 2 bring in all the studio trickery onto the stage, sometimes they choose to. At other times they don't-either way they satisfy their fans' hunger. In THIS performance they are using a live vocalist w/ effects & the band is miming to a pre-recorded track. How's that?

The most memorable moment is hearing them perform 'breaking up the girl' live (opening U2) & I loved how they extended that last few bars of the tune ("girrrrrrl"-over the intro music) for a 2nd time. Wish they recorded it that way. There was something MAGICAL about hearing her voice (drenched in effects) soaring all over the arena. Quite a BIG sound. Thus. Thus.
