"Another things we think good to admonish thee of (gentle Reader) that we have not tied ourselves to an uniformity of phrasing, or to an identity of words... For is the kingdom of God to become words or syllables? why should we be in bondage to them if we may be free, use one precisely when we may use another no less fit, as commodiously?" -Preface to KJV 1611 translation, from subsection entitled "REASONS INDUCING US NOT TO STAND CURIOUSLY UPON AN IDENTITY OF PHRASING"
Nobody is going to give you credance unless you are willing to investigate and learn the truth. If you believed that 2+2=5 and others were telling you it's not and provided the evidence that rpoves it but you refuse it, you will spend the rest of your life believing 2+2=5, and that is fine if that's what you want. But unless you are willing to hear evidences, you have no right nor place arguing your case.
"I was raised with this Bible in Catholic convents, but we were not allowed to read it."
What's that tell you about the church you went to?
I am not going to discuss it with you further. If you refuse to watch the videso series i sent you a link to then you are willingly ignorant, emotionally convicted to false gospel, and that is a sign of cultism.
When people refuse information fervently, they are brainwashed.
Afrikitty, please tell me which one is right and which is wrong, then explain your answer because ONE is true and ONE false:
"Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil." (Isaiah 9:3, King James Bible).
"You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder." (Isaiah 9:3, NIV).
"Why were they advocating this Bible and saying other versions are perversions?"
And still you refuse to watch the video series I gave you a link to so that you will have your answrer! My friend, as I stated, you are willingly ignorant. Nobody is going to hold your hand and write a mile long these for you personally.
"While I do have A KJV that ... that Bible became a stumbling block to me as I desperately tried to read it."
If you can't read thewords on the screen in this video series, watch this one beofre claiming other versions are the Word of God. If you refuse to watch, you'll make it clear you prefer ignorance over the truth.
I did not know there was a KJV only club until I joined YouTube. I was intigued by these people. Why were they advocating this Bible and saying other versions are perversions? I have been listening to these advocates for almost 2 years. While I do have A KJV that was presented to me when I graduated from nursing college back in 1974, that Bible became a stumbling block to me as I desperately tried to read it. I had no clue there were other versions of the Bible, other than the Jerusalem Bible...
I was raised with this Bible in Catholic convents, but we were not allowed to read it. It was given out in our daily Catechism classes while I was at school and collected up again after classes when the nuns and priests had taught us from selected parts of it. I had always been intigued as to why the Bible was a "forbidden" book back then, so, lo and behold, when I got a KJV at my graduation, I WANTED to read it and find out for myself the reason for it being forbidden. But I was not able to....
Eventually, I put it away and never tried to read it again. I have never forgotten that. The first Born Again Christian witnessed to me when I was 21 years old and she bought me a paperback Bible that eventually fell apart and I can't remember what version it was. But I read that Bible from cover to cover and through it came to an understanding of what true salvation was all about. At the age of 33 in 1987, I was Born Again and I wanted to study the Bible from my new regenerated perspective...
Knowing nothing about "versions" of the Bible, I first bought the Living Bible, but the church I worshipped at used the NIV. I grew in grace and knowledge of the Lord for years using the NIV. Then I bought the older NASB solely because I appreciated the use of "Thee" and "thou" when addressing the Lord. I still use those two versions to read and study from and nobody has accused me of doctrinal ignorance when talking to me about Biblical matters...NOT EVEN KJVonly people...
I am a very vocal defender of the faith of Christ Jesus on YouTube. My gripe is NOT that some people advocate that the KJV is the best version. My gripe is that you TRASH other versions with impunity. You have read my testimony now - so tell me, how on earth could I have gotten saved with another version of the Bible, let alone grown in grace and knowledge of the Lord with "perverted" versions. A "perverted" Bible must belong to Satan, not so? Yet how can that be? Jesus had the following to say
"If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand" (Mark 3:24)
"If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand?" (Luke 11:18)
"Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand." (Matthew 12:25)
What will you say to kids in 20 years time who cannot even read anything that is not written in text language? You only have to look around YouTube to see the illegible way today's kids write...
What's the betting that in a few years time, a Bible will have to be written in TEXT language. Our job is NOT to trash that Bible, but to make sure that the people who "translate" it make a faithful translation, so that the kids of that day can read and understand it WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT. My own studies regarding the difference between The KJV and other versions have been done through BibleGateway MAINLY, but also using my old white KJV. However, I have not read the KJV from cover to cover.
Finally, I have found no evidence that the KJV tells a different story to the NIV or the NASB. The central message of Salvation is the same throughout all versions and I have found that KJVonly advocates nitpick their way through "discrepancies" in other versions. Personally, I revel in the differences, as I get a broader understanding of what the Bible says on certain issues. I love the use of different words in different versions and I would not trash another version for it's differences.
"Do you see how your "defense" of one Bible has caused you to descend into hatred and intolerance?"
Hatred? No. However, you defend other versions with fervor when theamount of information that proves they are distorted is volumnous. Christian seeks the truth, you seek to deny it. If you were interested in the truth, you'd investigate. You are not.
Do you see how your "defense" of one Bible has caused you to descend into hatred and intolerance? I have NEVER read the KJV. I cannot read that English! But I have been saved since 7th March 1987 @ 10:30am. But Jesus told me I would be persecuted for following him and now your intolerance makes you say I am in a cult. WoW, do you ever read that Bible of yours, or do you spend the whole day just defebnding it. I just see hatred and lousy rhetoric amongst you KJVonly people. It's shocking!
"bastardisations" - a BIG word for an intolerant person to use. I am not surprised to see you use it. It's a VERY strong word to use to slight the word of God.
As for your use of the word "rebuke" - you don't know the meaning of the word. Are you rebuking me for daring to read the NIV and the NASB, or are you rebuking the modern versions of the Bible?
I do believe we should keep an eye on newer translations, as it would be true to Satan's nature to pervert God's word, but you go too far
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV)
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV)
"to suggest that the King James version is superior to other Bibles"
You havea lot of learning to do about the subject. Unless the truth scares you, I strongly suggest that you watch this video in it's entirety, and you will realize your error:
I have no qualms regarding the KJV. What does bother me is the absolute intolerance the KJVonly people show towards others who read and grow under other versions. Not only do you people attack their Bibles, but you show poor judgment as Christians as you attack your brothers and sisters in Christ as well. You are all a disgrace to the name of Jesus. By all means, love your KJV, but also, love your brothers and sisters in Christ as well. I believe that commandment is in the KJV also.
Personally-- I became reborn on the Living Bible- & now use the Translation Bible & I believe that you know Jesus Christ & have a relationship with HIM is most Important-- the King James was written in the 1500's by the Espiscopalian Church- when they separated from the Catholic Church....as far as I know. You could read the Bible & not have that relationship with HIM- & you are Dead Man's Bones.
if you are agnostic then you are waiting for proof of God. may i suggest that you pray to the God of the bible, tell him that you currently do not believe but if he is real, you invite hi into your life to show himself to you.
he always hears the prayers of the lost, he heard mine!!!!
Well I do mostly believe that he exists because it makes more sense than other beliefs but mainly I dont agree with god about alot of stuff. watch cozmikzen's video "top 10 reasons why god is a dumbass" 1 reason he left out is teens and sex. If he doesnt want teens having sex then why does he even give them hormones?
I would just like to share with you that my husband was raised in the Christian Science religion. His mother had him schooled in their schools and he graduated from their university. They use the King James Bible to validate what they believe and they are NOT Christians. My husband knows his KJV very well, but he is not saved. It is blasphemy to suggest that the King James version is superior to other Bibles. after I got saved, I read the Living Bible, then graduated to the NIV, then to the NASB
the niv is a complete assault on the word of God which comes from a gnostic version of the text by Origen which was then translated by Westcott and Hort
"I reject the word infallibility of Holy Scriptures overwhelmingly." (Westcott, The Life and Letters of Brook Foss Westcott, Vol. I, p.207).
"But the book which has most engaged me is Darwin...but at present my feeling is strong that the theory is unanswerable." Hort(Life, Vol.I, p.416).
Yes, Wescott and Hort hated the TR and called it a 'vile' text. They created out of thin air a totally false theory that the Bzantine text was a conflated text.
When someone refuses to listen to the evidence regarding the KJB it is because they hate the authority of it. This generaton will not accept the fact that there is one Bible for the English speaking people, the KJB. They want to be able to 'pick and choose' what they are going to believe and obey. The beauty of the bible is this: for every verse quoted, you can find another one that says the very opposite or at least can be interpreted as such.
