Dude, that's just silly. It's not easy being Alice (or Lain). It's basically a normal human being trying to be friends with something superhuman -- an angel, as Taro said. They love each other but can't easily understand each other's lives. I think their relationship is the most touching part of the series, especially the melancholy (but not hopeless) resolution at the end.
