I've never been a big Quo fan, but "Rain" and "Mystery Song" are two of the best no-nonsense hard rock songs you're ever likely to find. It's just a pity that they went the pop-rock route with dirge's like "Rockin All Over The World" and "Whatever You Want"
20-year-old english guy from omegle I'm the 17-year-old girl from Greece.. Our conversation stopped by omegle's fault but this is my yt account.. msg me there if you see this :)
yeh great track QUO at their peak of sounding like QUO,then they seem to go in a different sound, still love them though and glad they (QUO )still performing and survived the hard rock and roll lifestyle.they were a big period in my teenage life, and alot of lusting ohhh yeh.**
this and mystery song were, imo, the last 2 decent singles by quo. i have to agree with those who have mentioned the "dismissal" of the rhythm section, it's true they were never the same again and i have to be honest, when i see parfit and rossi they really do remind me of tuffnell and st hubbins!!
Quo went downhill fast IMO after their excellent live album - Quo Live - in '76. The "engine room" of the band were let go/sacked/ lost interest...whatever...they were not/have not ever been the same as that great hard rock'n'roll band of the 70s...and that my friends is a sad fact.
Quo Live to this very day still stands the test of time! Quo peaked (IMO) at the Glasgow Apollo in 1976...and it's been all downhill from there. I know this will upset some/ a lot of people...'tis sad but true.
@MrCelticcc1 They certainly haven't rocked as much since - you can blame the management, Frost, Williams etc. even Francis's ego, but the main thing is that Quo are still drawing the crowds in and that alone deserves respect. I don't hate the post 77 stuff (apart from Restless, which is wet and the Don't Stop album) but the lads need to put out a belter before they retire. A bit like another band I like, Def Leppard, who've not had a monster album since Adrenalize in 1992!
THIS IS A REAL ROCK AND ROLL!! THE SUCKS OF THE BEETLES..... FOR MUCH THE BEST ENGLISH BAND!!!! And NOT FOR THAT I LIKE AMI, THE FACTS SPEAK FOR IF ALONE THE ONLY BAND IN OPENING THE FESTIVAL AID TWO FOLLOWED, LIKE THAT YEARS LIKE FOR THE FOUNDATION OF THE PRINCE, MORE GIVES 40 YEARS OF THE FIRST PLACES IN THE LISTS U.K. MORE GIVE 100 PRESENTATIONS IN ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS PROGRAMS OF UNA'S MUSIC OF THE MEJOERES TELEVISORAS THE BBC ETC. QOU status a great band one of my favorites I have all their LP was difficult to get me but I did and did not change for anything in return I hope and I soon lost mexico concerts
GOIN 2 SEE THEM IN THE WATERFRONT AT 8PM (GOIN UP NOW 4 A GOOOOD FEW BEERS) ROCK ON QUO!!! THIS IS MY 8TH TIME SEEING THEM 16NOW HAHA WOOP MANY MORE 2 GO!!
@frontman62 don't give them all the glory, Rick & Rossi's guitars fused together to make the Quo Pounding shuffle chords, Alan provided the thudding bass lines and John was the icing on the cake with his simple, but realy effective drum patterns. the four of them together, made that classic Quo ryhthm sound
@rockerstar101 lol bloke!! - couldn't have put it better meself. I think the boogie started to die when John left and the 'pretenders' moved in! This track has to be one of their best. Don't give a shit if the critics claim they can only play one, two, or three chords - NO ONE can do it like QUO DO IT!!!
I always argued with my brother over the title which ended up in a good old tear up, he thought it was "I can't live without Lorraine" mind you he died a year later so respect bruv you thick dipshit.
love quo, rossi n parfitt amazing team, but man, this song, lancaster n coghlan are like a f((kin sledgehammer poundin away. jeezz/// headphones pounds yer f((kin head man. anyone after them miss some beat, like, so it all sounds like a country waltz, no disrespect intended
Rick is the rythm master..! and has written some fantastic riffs for the quo, taken them just a little away from the 12 bar, the quo will always be king to those that know rock n roll, long live the quo..!
My father brought a Hitparade Philips cassette from Sweden in 70'ties, on which this song was together with Nazareth "Carry Out Feelings"!!! Excellent memories!!!!! Thanks!!!!
In the early 80's the musical differences between the two co-founders of Status Quo: Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster became to big. Rossi wanted to do more melodic stuff , Lancaster wanted Quo to do way more hard rock kind of music. Besides the musical arguments the members were on all kind of drugs in that period. Would be great if all the old members would show up on a farewell tour someday and then m maybe play one or two songs together???
@Cpttoxic Ofcourse you are right! My mistake..And you are also right about how the original line up came to his end. Ask Rossi and you'll probably hear another story than the one Lancaster or Coghlan will tell you. I guess the true strory is somewhere in the middle...
@Accidentprone70 they have. John Coghlan & Alan have been known to attend Quo Concerts and they are still good friends with Rossi & Rick, but they've decided not to play again, because it may kick up the settled dust.
@rockerstar101 Last year I saw some photographs of Rick and Francis posing together with John Coghlan somewhere and not long agoI read in Rhino's tourlog of the recent Quo tour in Australia that Alan Lancaster had visited a Quo concert. I didn't know that they decided not to play again. I bet a lot of fans would like that and I don't think that Rhino or Matt would mind if Alan and John would come up on stage to play a few songs but hey, you have to respect the decision of the guys.
@rhinoal Mind you, having read other comments on this page, I'll do the polite thing & shut the fook up! Others are saying they are all still good friends. I hope so, they were like family back in the old days, and that was reflected on to the audience. You felt like you were one of them, and you were playing alongside them.....air guitar an' all! :o)
Dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah..... 12 bar rock n roll guitar riff s ...... .dah dah dah dah dah ..oh yeah ...come on THE qou ..... ..dah dah dah dah dah dah dah ..only the QUO ....... Im 17 again ...brilliant !!!!
rain and mystery song were written by rick when he was off his head on speed in the studio on his own, the rest of the band had left him to it....got to be the 2 best quo songs ever....pure class, great band.

Looks like Rossi told Rickie a joke somewhere around 1.59 in the video. Love "Rain". Great rock song from the "Blue for you" album. Also check out "Mystery song" (for al you non-Quo followers).
Rick never uses his White Tele for this track as he uses a different tuning, and Actually from about 1972 to 1974 Rick used an SG as his main guitar. Notice though come Rain or Shine Frames got that Old Green Tele
This and mystery song got be hooked on quo .I knew of them since pictures of matchtikmen /in my chair , but this and mystery song turned me on my head 4 EVER .....LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

Great band - seriously under rated by sniffy rock press at the time - but really very, very clever pro. bunch of lads.

Parfitt with an SG?????
pump35 3 years ago
Not an SG at all but some kind of weird LP Special DC.
BTW Parfitt use sometimes a real SG (junior).
realdocloco 3 years ago
It is a Gibson melody maker or an Les Paul junior.

Rick never uses his White Tele for this track as he uses a different tuning, and Actually from about 1972 to 1974 Rick used an SG as his main guitar. Notice though come Rain or Shine Frames got that Old Green Tele

Think hes actually got three main Tele's. Theres the std one with the maple neck and two he uses for down down and w.y.want with rosewood necks.
pump35 3 years ago
Yep Frames got 3 Teles he uses on stage all Green. There is a fourth one he uses for Gerdundula as well but that one is in a Natural Wood finish
