The third type of antigen - not mentioned - is named RH. If you are RH positive you have that antigen in your blood. If you are 0 + you do not have A or B but you do have RH antigens and you are not a "universal" donor.

I knew there were plus and minus types because my army dogtags had A+.

Ironically, the "universal" type O-, can be given to every blood type while people who HAVE type 0- can only receive type 0-. Obviously it has to do with the antigens that will attack "foreign bodies".

Type O people don't have these enzymes so they stay with the H antigen.
