I think Tom and Stuart were both great in their respective movies. I doubt Stuart could've pulled the 18th century, but Tom couldn't have been the 20th centruy Lestat. So I love them both. ^^

I've read all the books and Stuart totally captured the essence of Lestat in my opinion. He should make the big bucks instead of Tom. Wish Ann would write another in the series, it's been so long and Twilight just doesn't do it for me like the Ann Rice novels.

I thought Tom Cruise did a great job as Lestat even if he was older. Stuart may have been the right age and had some characteristics, but his voice I thought was so annoying and just kind of played really stereotypical vampire in a way to me. Anne Rice even thought Tome Cruise did great and took back her stance against Cruise playing the role and gave him nothing but praise.

This film was so pathetic! Honestly the only idiots who like this film, believe it or not, ARE GOTHS! Stupid pathetic goths. Anne rice, the author of the Queen of the Damned novel has said numerous times that her work was ruined through this film. Poor casting, poor and cheap CGI effects, and a fucked up storyline that didn't match the novel. Tom cruise was way better as Lestat than this idiot was and i'm not a Twilight fan but i'd rather pick Twilight over this any day!

Townsend's Lestat was unrecognizable from the philosophic, driven, and thoroughly unpredictable Lestat of the books. Even the author, Anne Rice, agreed that Cruise made the best Lestat.
Didn't read the books. Let me rephrase: Tom Cruise was a very weak vampire, and interview with the vampire was unfortunately a pretty tedious film. Stuart townsend was a much better vampire in my opinion, even if he wasn't a much better 'lestat'.
Ok, hold on. To be fair, before you make any judgements, you should really read the books. Maybe if you had, "Interview" wouldn't have been so "tedious". That being said, though, I'm no Tom Cruise fan. I think Stuart would've done just as good a job as Cruise, if not better, since he embodies the character so well.
I think Stuart makes a good Lestat only if you havent seen Tom Cruise in "Interview" The problem with Stuart's Lestat is not the actor but the movie. I think that if Stuart would have been given a better script and better material to work with, then he could have made a more similar Lestat. Which is why Tom's Lestat is the best for now, because even when the movie was boring (the book is fantastic) Tom was more into character and the movie "interview" is a much better film than this one.
By saying this, i mean that the movie "Interview" being best, it gives us a deeper understanding of characters. I didnt feel connection with Stuart's Lestat and the Lestat from the book, but I totally felt the connection when Tom did it.
AND I DONT SAY THIS BECAUSE IM A TOM FAN OR ANYTHING, IN FACT IM MORE A STUART FAN. TOO BAD HE BROKE UP WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND :(
Yes, Townsend is prettier, but Cruise's Lestat is truer to Anne Rice's vision, both looks & personality wise. Townsend did a good vampire, but he didn't "feel" like Lestat. I'm not sure why he didn't convince me - either he isn't as good an actor as Cruise OR the storyline was altered too much from the books. Could be the later: the movie's based on both "The Vampire Lestat" & "Queen of the Damned" but bears little resemblance to either book.

Queen of the Damned the movie is pretty cool, and Stuart Townsend is my favorite Lestat. But the movie as an adaptation was awful. XD They tried to mix "The Vampire Lestat" "Queen of the Damned" and the tiniest fact from "Tale of the Body Thief" all into one film. It's horrible. :P
The whole thing sucks.... neither actor ever truly nailed it unfortunately. Whats done is done and cannot be undone...but maybe they can remake it. Big fan of the first two books...but the rest...oh dear... Vampire90210 territory.
Stu's Lestat was suppose to have more compassion it was because we got to see where he came from, though they didn't even really get that right. I prefer Tom's version, but Stu did very well considering everything they changed about Lestat.

He's mesmerizing, Townsend's Lestat I mean, and I haven't even seen this film. I loved Cruise's portrayal, but Townsend seems to work better as the reborn, modern Lestat. I don't think Cruise could have pulled off the 'rock star' thing even if he tried. Still a good actor though. But this video was very well done, now I need to see the movie.
Ok, I finally watched it and I was right, the guy has you eating out of the palm of his hand. And just because the film wasn't amazing does not mean that Stu's performance reeked because it wasn't Tom Cruise. In fact I love them both.
Tom's had no compassion, and no remorse. He was a ferocious beast draped in elegant garb.
Stu's was more youthful, and rebellious and seemed to have more respect and appreciation for humanity.
I think both portrayals complement each other very well.

That drunk was an insult to all things vampire, let alone an insult to ...oh, the entire country of France. His portrayal of Lestat is the least of his flaws. There's a reason no one hires him anymore.
Tom Cruise was a fabulous LESTAT. The fact one can over look his baby face and see him cold and heartless is what makes him Lestat.
As for Stuart, he shows the innocence in Lestat and the mortal side of Lestat brilliantly.
They both did what they had to, in order to bring a side of Lestat to light. Even if they were not the best physical choices as the ULTIMATE VAMPIRE- my darling darling precious LESTAT!!
Think of it this way, Lestat has NO match. Plain and Simple!!
You don't remember the fit Anne Rice threw when she heard they cast tom cruise? Lestat was 6'4" with blond hair and blue eyes. Cruise was an awful choice. Townsend comes closer but still a little short. Rice described Lestat as lookingg like younger Rutger Hauer. The physical description of Lestat was actually one of the pivotal points in the book. His looks are why he is chosen to become a vamp to begin with. So townsend at least has the haircolor right. Not much else though.
maybe you're right, but you can also check that, after watching the movie (the 1st one), rice payed top money to a newspaper to write a review where she apologised for her attitude to tom and gave him great compliments for his performance!
this movie is unique, noone should expect more from other vampire movies, they are for children. I wish to see movies like this but it is a mere mortal wish and I think noone will ever make a movie like this, unfortunately!!!

@wolfmangml1 Stuart was to melancholy as Lestat, Lestat is supposed to be very vibrant and lively... not to mention Stuarts fake accent was terrible to listen to. I hate to admit it (not being much of a fan of Tom Cruise) but I think its probably the best part hes ever played, Tom nailed the character perfectly.

I really hate the film adaptation of Queen of the Damned...where's Louis and what did they do to Armand? o.o He looks terrible... And what the hell with Marius being the creator of Lestat? o.O' OK... I'll shut up now ^.^ Everyone has his/her own opinion, it's not a problem if you liked it ^.^

I'm guessing you never read any of the books . . . or maybe you judge talent based on how little the actor is wearing? Townsend's Lestat was unrecognizable from the philosophic, driven, and thoroughly unpredictable Lestat of the books. Even the author, Anne Rice, agreed that Cruise made the best Lestat.

Didn't read the books. Let me rephrase: Tom Cruise was a very weak vampire, and interview with the vampire was unfortunately a pretty tedious film. Stuart townsend was a much better vampire in my opinion, even if he wasn't a much better 'lestat'.

Ok, hold on. To be fair, before you make any judgements, you should really read the books. Maybe if you had, "Interview" wouldn't have been so "tedious". That being said, though, I'm no Tom Cruise fan. I think Stuart would've done just as good a job as Cruise, if not better, since he embodies the character so well.

There's a big difference between books and films. Even if I read the books and liked them, that wouldn't make the film any less tedious as a film.
Personally I think any vampire book would have their work cut out for it to be better than Brian Lumley's books.

I think Stuart makes a good Lestat only if you havent seen Tom Cruise in "Interview" The problem with Stuart's Lestat is not the actor but the movie. I think that if Stuart would have been given a better script and better material to work with, then he could have made a more similar Lestat. Which is why Tom's Lestat is the best for now, because even when the movie was boring (the book is fantastic) Tom was more into character and the movie "interview" is a much better film than this one.

By saying this, i mean that the movie "Interview" being best, it gives us a deeper understanding of characters. I didnt feel connection with Stuart's Lestat and the Lestat from the book, but I totally felt the connection when Tom did it.

Yes, Townsend is prettier, but Cruise's Lestat is truer to Anne Rice's vision, both looks & personality wise. Townsend did a good vampire, but he didn't "feel" like Lestat. I'm not sure why he didn't convince me - either he isn't as good an actor as Cruise OR the storyline was altered too much from the books. Could be the later: the movie's based on both "The Vampire Lestat" & "Queen of the Damned" but bears little resemblance to either book.

Queen of the Damned the movie is pretty cool, and Stuart Townsend is my favorite Lestat. But the movie as an adaptation was awful. XD They tried to mix "The Vampire Lestat" "Queen of the Damned" and the tiniest fact from "Tale of the Body Thief" all into one film. It's horrible. :P

Stu's Lestat was suppose to have more compassion it was because we got to see where he came from, though they didn't even really get that right. I prefer Tom's version, but Stu did very well considering everything they changed about Lestat.

He's mesmerizing, Townsend's Lestat I mean, and I haven't even seen this film. I loved Cruise's portrayal, but Townsend seems to work better as the reborn, modern Lestat. I don't think Cruise could have pulled off the 'rock star' thing even if he tried. Still a good actor though. But this video was very well done, now I need to see the movie.

Ok, I finally watched it and I was right, the guy has you eating out of the palm of his hand. And just because the film wasn't amazing does not mean that Stu's performance reeked because it wasn't Tom Cruise. In fact I love them both.
Tom's had no compassion, and no remorse. He was a ferocious beast draped in elegant garb.
Stu's was more youthful, and rebellious and seemed to have more respect and appreciation for humanity.
I think both portrayals complement each other very well.

Tom Cruise was a fabulous LESTAT. The fact one can over look his baby face and see him cold and heartless is what makes him Lestat.
As for Stuart, he shows the innocence in Lestat and the mortal side of Lestat brilliantly.
They both did what they had to, in order to bring a side of Lestat to light. Even if they were not the best physical choices as the ULTIMATE VAMPIRE- my darling darling precious LESTAT!!
Think of it this way, Lestat has NO match. Plain and Simple!!

You don't remember the fit Anne Rice threw when she heard they cast tom cruise? Lestat was 6'4" with blond hair and blue eyes. Cruise was an awful choice. Townsend comes closer but still a little short. Rice described Lestat as lookingg like younger Rutger Hauer. The physical description of Lestat was actually one of the pivotal points in the book. His looks are why he is chosen to become a vamp to begin with. So townsend at least has the haircolor right. Not much else though.
