Save your money. Sounds like a good deal but isn't worth the trouble. After installing magicJack into my computer, the cops showed up at my house 3 times because the phone was ghost dialing 911. The only way to disable this was by changing my info with magicjack from my real address to a fictitious one 911 could not recognize. More recently, I have chosen to get a land line but wanted to keep my magicJack number. If you do this, know that magicJack will charge you over 30 bucks to port out!
I have existing phone jacks wired throughout my house. Is there anyway to tap into those lines such that whatever phone I connect to my phone jack in my wall, it will use the magicjack line?
Majic Jack is a fraud. They advertise free calling and its NOT FREE. Read thier terms before you purchase this useless low quality device (SECTION 6 in their terms). My internet speed is 15 megabits/sec yet the voice keeps cutting. They have the WORST customer and techincal support. STAY AWAY! They suspended my account and its irreversible I lost $60 a week after I activated the device :reason: They calim that i made more then 20% calls than the average cutomer. Filing FTC and BBB today.
I love my MagicJack. I've had mine over 2 years and it's already saved me over $1650 in just two years! Some of the naysayers are full of crap and have never owned one. My guess is they're probably shills for the telephone company. Service is excellent and it's never not worked since I've owned mine including the 911 feature which I've had to use twice! I even sent my mom one and she too loves her's as well!
I have it. Pros: fairly clear sound. no bill for 5 years. easy to install. will send messag to your email address as a sound file Dont need an answering machine.CONS: Echo slightly ( but had that with ATT Wirless) Interface is always on top of everything when starting up PC Will minimize everything if incoming call. and will minimize again when call is done even if you dont take call."doonbiz" just has no clue what there doing and dont give a true report.
I truly am stumped by where to begin. This product and it's promotion are so completely guilty of fraudulent advertising claims, It's absurd.
The fees to operate this $39.95 product will run in excess of $300 if you buy what's needed to connect. Stay the hell away from these people and MAGICJACK. Bad news!!! No 911, can't get a CA. number, sound is awful, and hidden charges are actually a chuckle.
Yes, you do need a working computer with a USB port and a high speed internet connection. If you are on youtube, then most likely you already have what you need to use a magicjack.
@doonbiz I highly disagree doonbiz. I've had mine for over 2 years after a friend recommended it to me and I've had absolutely no problems at all. Even talked to friends in the Philippines a few times. Sound quality is not horrible and your assumption of $300 must be assuming someone doesn't have a computer which is pretty stupid on your part since they already know it needs to get hooked up to a PC device! I'd also like to see an actual itemization of your so-called hidden charges please.
BUYER BEWARE! WORSE CASE SCENARIO JUST HAPPENED! Took my brother 30 minutes to find the number to the hospital cause my dad fell and for some reason the 911 didn't work on the Magic Jack!!! I do want to mention that my brother is not familiar with the area and he had to get on the internet to search for the right hospital while my dad lay on the floor with a broken arm and bloody head. DAMN JACK SHOULD HAVE HAD 911!!!!
You relied on MJ as your primary service. Not ever a good move. No backup? No cell? You really can't blame "the jack". What if your computer was of at the time? What if there was no power? Is that all "the jack"'s fault?
I love my MagicJack and it works great. Only downfalls are that you have to use their voicemail and they did not offer a prefix for my town, so when some one calls me who lives in my city they are calling long distance. But still well worth it.
I have not had any problems with it and my friend from Florida bought one and loves it to. I don't use it very often because I mostly use my cell phone. Getting rid of my $40 per month land line only made sense.
