The problem with kiting is the lack of control you do have when windsurfing, if a windsurfer catapults he comes to a stop, a kiter takes way more time, hence the collisions.

so if you want to kitesurf, fine, but go to a spot where you have MORE SPACE. so that if you fuck up, you'll only harm yourself and not others.

has nothing to do with jealousy, it has to do with kiters being dangerous whilst they should be a bit more social and go to a spot where you have more space so you don't hurt others

as both wind and kiter I prefer windsurfing over kite-surfing, with windsurfing you're using the waves and wind to make jumps for instance, whilst kiters only use raw wind power, and the idea of freedom remains the same, in fact, kite spots are becoming lesser and lesser due to its dangerous nature

@kasperhangard Well, I will like to disagree on your statement about kitesurfing can do more. Windsurfing has highwind and low wind freestyle, it has a better wave experience, it can do both light wind and high wind slalom. Whie kitesurfing only really has slalom and just jumping and spinning tricks. I dont count kitesurfing as a wave since you are not really enjoying the feeling of riding the wave like a windsurfer can; do to a kite acting like a boat and pulling you across the wave

well... I am doing both for quite some time now. My philosophy is that up to 20 knots kitesurf rules. When it gets stronger the fun continues with windsurf. They are both great sports each with different feeling on the water so you can never compare them equally.

The truth is more like a matter of style, that is why there are people so focused on windsurf and vice versa.

Pynnee do you do either of these sports, or just want to flame? You should try commenting on sky diving videos champ. In real world conditions neither sport has the upper hand in speed and power. You can find special conditions that play to the strengths of each. Your bike/moped comparison is ignorant. In wind sports the downwind guy has the right of way. The kiter was on port, upwind of the windsurfer and was riding swell, not surf and not in a lineup. That's three strikes.

the kite vs sail fight is like the moped(wind surfer) vs super sports bike(kiters) fight the poofs who ride mopeds think they are cool but everyone else just thinks you are a bunch of fuck heads. where as the super sports are actually fun and cool and everyone thinks so besides the head fucked moped riders. the kiter was on the wave so he clearly has right of way. the kite was heading towards the shore whick means he was going in. some one going in always has right of way over someone going out.

whoa whoa whoa you have no idea how much fun a moped is nor will a simpleton like you ever grasp the concept of windsurfing. kiting is cool and easy to learn, if you can wakeboard, and fly a 2 string kite, you can kiteboard. i got up and got going first time. windsurfing on the other hand requires some dedication

windsurfing is technical a bit more difficult then kiting BUT thats just becouse the kiting lvl is never been high now with the new good gear we gonna see proper straples surfing, courseracing and top speed

kiting rules top speed over 500m

kiting rules course racing

kiting has way more hangtime

kiting now is better for waveriding then windsurfing

etc etc, since the gear got proper after 12years of development the sport really s gonna kick ass windsurfing

The person going out has the right of way? I thought the criterion was: the person who has its right hand near the mast. So if you are going out but your left hand is near the mast, you have to yield.

I am the windurfer of the video. I definitely had the right of the way because I was going out. The problem was that the kiter was seeing the wave not me. Only 2 seconds before the collision he saw me but it was too late.

Isnt the rule to yeild to someone riding a wave? The kitesurfer was definetly riding that wave. Two people riding the wind collided- which one was at fault? I would say the one heading out, not the one surfing a wave...right?
