Highway 401: Busiest highway in the world

between 3:30pm-7pm the 401 is packed i mean it takes 2 hours just to get from 410 to 404 during those times and if u drive on the 401 any other time of day it would take u 45 min to get from 410 to 404!!!

Someone told me that Toronto has worse traffic than Los Angeles but I'm not buying it. Sure the 401 is the busiest road on North America, but it's 18 freaking lanes! The 405 has 8. So the 405 actually has more vehicles per lane. Also the 405 is shorter thus the heavy traffic is more congested. IMO LA is worse, there are more cars everyday on LA's freeways than there are PEOPLE in Toronto. That adds up. But I still like Toronto, beautiful city.

@rajin335 I don't doubt that at all. But the 401 goes all the way across Ontario doesn't it? the 405 is all within the LA area. And the 360,000 vics that go through are counted between 2 exits in Seal Beach near the Airport. All those cars originate and terminate all within Los Angeles. That's why I say LA is a tad worse than Toronto. Toronto probably has worse rush hour traffic but LA has traffic usually between 4:30am and midnight 6 days a week. And LA doesn't have those fancy GO trains lol ;)

I by law caused an accident because a lady did not use her turn signal as I left hand turned from a parking lot to the road. If she would have signaled both our cars would not have been totaled and all injures could have been avoided. Because I would have known by her signal she was going to switch into the left lane and I would have never pulled out.

Please like RyanValejo says use your turn signals you never know what good it does. Until the bad happens.

For all you people who are saying there are other busy highways, sure, but 401 is proven that it is the busiest highway in the world. This video i'm pretty sure is just regular traffic. Try driving on the 401 from 5:30 - 7:00 .. you wouldn't even move 2 KMs in 20 mins.

Its great, problem is too many ppl moving to Toronto, immigration is fine but 250,000 a year dumped into our cities will ruin the quality of life for all, it will cause more traffic and more gridlock.

While I can think of quite a number of freeways that operate at lower speeds during peak rush hour, it's still quite a scene to see as many as 18 lanes crawling along this freeway. I've also sat in lengthy rush hour delays along the 401 thru Toronto, even at midday. Definitely a beast of a freeway!

Driving this freeway is a right of passage in my books. I made my girlfriend drive it a few weeks back so she can gain the confidence for her G test. She drove allll the way to Algonquin. (I drove back) but after that, even her self confidence in not only driving rose but overall! It's very cool stretch of road.
