wow some real winners hear. a BOV is used on turbo vehicles (mainly manuals) to prevent reverse surging of air when you close the throttle. If you did not have one when you closed the throttle the air would hit the plate and go back through the turbo and slow the turbine way to fast which causes pre-mature failure of the turbo. They are only for turbo/supercharged vehicles. they won't make your car faster because they are used as a safety measure for forced induc. vehicles.
@rocker4u123 I believe they do make your car more responsive to boost,I mean think about what you said, the bov keeps the air from jamming back into the compressor so in theory this would help keep the turbo spinning maximum efficiency when letting of the throttle and getting back on it since the air is no longer slowing the compressor wheel just my thought.
Nice, but the guy forgot to mention that during aggressive driving (like when autox-ing or even shifting) where you're constantly going wide open throttle, then no throttle, then wide open throttle again, you get less lag when you recirculate because there is already some boost left in the system. Ofcourse there's no difference in boost when you're building up the boost, but that's irrelevant. What matters is AFTER you release the throttle. What if you wanna go WOT again, like when you let go
Ima go ahead and say this is the gayest thing i ever saw. why would you waste time and money building this rig for a n/a car. IF YOU WANT THE SOUND THEN BUY A TURBO CAR, they come with that COOL sound your looking for. i think you should build one of these to fit in a kangaroo pouch. bounce bounce bounce ptshh haha
@witeboy08 that chirping sound is called turbo chatter or flutter and it will cause catistrphic damage to the turbo and when the turbo blows up then it will go in the engine too
Its correct to say that BOV and Wastegates are not 'power adders'. Its correct to say they relieve potentially hazardous pressure from the hot and cold site of the turbo... the 'techy dude' needs to read a book from Motorbooks Workshop : turbocharging performance handbook because everything else he said is debatable. Recirculating a BOV to turbo inlet helps keep a turbo from Surging... that said, if you are worried about surge, you selected the wrong turbo for your car.
I will never understand why the UK and Aussies call it a "push bike". It's contradictory. Why not a "ride bike"?? What's the point in pushing a bike? Makes no sense.
@knurri not being a dick but i think because the definition of pushing, is to apply pressure against something to move it, so i guess the pedals take the pressure and the bike moves. but only old people call it that everyone else just a cycle or bike.
@knurri silly yank doesn't understand that once upon a time they were quite literally, push bikes as you used to have on foot on the ground like a scooter and they've been called that ever since. Then again you a yank, your entire nation makes no sense.
@wbc564 people that want open venting bovs on their car are usually more into imports and are young adults. people into american muscle are usually a little older and dislike anything that could be counted as "riced up" :p
You won't see any performance gains from a recirculating BOV on a dyno. But anyone with any common sense will tell you an atmospheric BOV will make your engine run lean as soon as your back on the throttle.
at the begining the guy says that if you dont have a blow off valve in a turbo charged car it can cause the chriping sound because of the air going back through the turbo, can this cauase problems because i think that sound is great. if it causes problems is there any way to get that sound without causing problems (i dont know much about cars btw, so sorry if i sound stupid)
@wbc564 i could be wrong(cuase im not in2 the whole turbo/superchargers) but SCs run off the engines pulleys not the throttle body so when u lift outta the gas SCs go back 2 idle jus like the engines
@wbc564 np i look at it this way we all r noobs at sumthing if every1 knew everything it would be a borin world an besides if u never ask questions how u ever gonna learn?
And also any BOV will not increase HP or achieve more power at all.
Brett from GFB does not mention this, he is the engineer, im not, Im a car importer, but his pay is from selling all the GFB products, if he was to say there is no gain from any BOV, he will need to ask friends for pocket money.
Anyway, I still love turbo, AWD, Japanese imports and will continue to import them as it has become a passion for me.
Therefore the car might run rich for that second, as you change gears, promoting detonation (too much fuel in cylinder, not enough air, fuel igniting way too soon, melting pistons, eventually)
Anyway, we all desire the unique BOV sounds as it gets attention from people, but also Blue Boys and we can get a fine for having a VTA BOV.
Which this video shows the GFB ultimate and most expensive part, the electronically adjusted BOV which you can control, minimal or maximum noise.
With VTA BOVs (please keep up with acronyms), when you take foot off pedal, all the pressurised air gets 'dumped' outside the car and makes a favoured noise thanks to the trumpets on the BOV. However, the car is still delivering more fuel because the air flow meter instructs to when the car is under boost, as it does not know all that air is dumped, it will advance timing and provide more fuel when all that pressured air is no longer available.
Anyway, with BOVs, the only purpose of that is to eliminate compressor surge by forced air going the other direction and hitting the turbine blades, damaging it, and many other parts, respectively.
If you invest in a recirculating valve, which is the better option, it can handle higher boost and not leak under stress like some factory plastic units. It is actually better for the car to run this way to avoid running with rich fuel mixtures which I will explain...
If you watch this video correctly, with a bit of educational support, you will realise that the purpose of this video is for marketing purposes. Educating people about Blof off valves is just an added bonus.
They go straight to GFB, because its the promoter, why not Turbosmart, or Blitz or hundreds of other BOV companies that sell in Oz?
Hot4s magazine did the same thing by asking Brett from GFb a few years back on their video.
It is plainly as a marketing tool to sell GFB products.
i got a Question i got a 92 civic hatch si and i got a blow off value but cant really here it becuase my turbo is so big and ive been looking for a blow off value thats sounds like a supra any help from any one????
seriously? one of the questions was will it make the car faster? whata buncha ricer fags..all it is, is a hole in the intake tube that automatically closes and opens itself.
@Jagjamin No neither "break it down" or "in a nut" shell are uniquely australian, As for "break it down into a nutshell", I think this is presenter/host speak for i need to be saying something while this video is running, and i don't really care what ;)
sooo you cant install a dump valve on a non turbo? fucking idiots. maybe if they knew anything about cars they would know you could install one to the air intake with out all the mad pipes and the stupid little compressor. i would explain it but i think make a video, it would be easier
@chrisygta4life Dude, what in the fuck are you even talking about? I can't even fucking follow you. Are you saying you installed a BOV on a non-turbo car, or are you saying you can install on a turbo car? Fucking a.
So if your Astra has a wastegate, then it IS turbo. A turbo vehicle has air forced in, and pressurized by a turbo, therefore there is positive pressure (BOOST) in the manifold while under load.
No BOV/BPV = chuffing noises when you close the throttle. It's really no big deal, it doesn't kill turbos. Compressor surge at full throttle will kill turbos, but BOVs only kick in after you lift your foot off the throttle pedal anyway. At that point there's negligible exhaust pressure driving the turbine, so the rotating assembly just simply slows down.
@Tj1056 What LegacyNSFW doesn't understand is that a turbo is rotating at over 60,000RPM under boost, pushing air one way, and when you let off the throttle, it doesn't exactly stop in 1 sec flat. In idiot terms, it's like sticking a pipe in a spinning bike tire, bad idea. It may not damage right away, but it can eventually. Especially journal bearings. BB, you're usually good.
@ChmicalStudios well I wouldn't say its like sticking a pipe in a spinning bike tire lol... because the backpressure of having no bov will just force some pressure back while slowing down the compressor... thats when you hear the flutter... not only it kills the bearings in journal but also BB it could eventually destroy the shaft between the compressor and turbine...
@AnhYeuEm1992 Is that an honest question? Are you really that dumb? If you know what a blow off valve does what do you think would happen if you didn't have one?
@411onytay How is not knowing it make me dumb? you probably didn't know about it back then. If you don't have a bov the air will just exit where it came from the (turbo)
lol I disconnected my intake so I wouldn't suck up water one day when it was raining. I shifted at about 3000 rpm's and whoosh lol. I thought it was kinda funny that is sounded just like a turbo at low boost.
so the point of this video is to make a standalone blow off valve system that uses batteries right? and thats why you guys were able to use it on the bike right ? wouldnt you lose pressure if you added that on a NA car ?
hmm.. this looks like its oddly out of place... On a NA car, the blow off valve would have to use a stand alone system which negates the whole idea of having a blow off valve in the first place... doesnt it ? turbo cars use blow off valves because of unused built up boost pressure from the turbo chargers, but the only thing an NA car has is the intake/intake manifold; it lacks boost pressure to even have a blow off valve in the first place...
why would you want a naturally asperated car to have a blow off valve number one. and number two why would you go to all that trouble just to get a sound that doesnt make your car faster or even quicker for that matter
@000ADRush haha i know =] no its not even australian its used all over the world, it 1000 watts of electricity, i.e 1 kilowatts. its like a kilogram 1kg=1000g
@000ADRush Watt (W) is a different unit for power, yes. A kilowatt (kW) is 1000W. 1hp equals ROUGHLY 750W. And it's not only aussies using it for engine power.
You need to tune your car for either or. If your Subaru is tuned for a recirculate and you goto a VTA your car will run like crap and rich. It's a known fact.
@xAbre1200 because they're designed to recirc. You also cannot tune for a bov on them either. With a bov you will get rich condition during shifts and foul your plugs over time. But there is plenty of oem replacements if you got leaks or other issues. And if you MUST have sound, a SRI will make your bpv plenty loud enough.
cool show, went through a lot of trouble to just forget about it lol, thats a cool little mini compressor. Good work just to prove it can be done though.

So if your Astra has a wastegate, then it IS turbo. @chrisygta4life Basic rule:
In a non-turbo vehicle, the motor uses vacuum to suck air into the motor, no air is being pressurized or forced in, therefore there is no positive pressure (BOOST) in the manifold. A turbo vehicle has air forced in, and pressurized by a turbo, therefore there is positive pressure (BOOST) in the manifold while under load.

what about power without a blow off valve?
itchysp 4 months ago
so the point of this video is to make a standalone blow off valve system that uses batteries right? and thats why you guys were able to use it on the bike right ? wouldnt you lose pressure if you added that on a NA car ?
tenjinnim 4 months ago
hmm.. this looks like its oddly out of place...

@tenjinnim It's supposed to be a joke...

why would you want a naturally asperated car to have a blow off valve number one. and number two why would you go to all that trouble just to get a sound that doesnt make your car faster or even quicker for that matter

SMacca3103 4 months ago
@SMacca3103 your clever. is it like some austrailian measurment of WHP? hahah
000ADRush 4 months ago
@000ADRush haha i know =] no its not even australian its used all over the world, it 1000 watts of electricity, i.e 1 kilowatts. its like a kilogram 1kg=1000g
SMacca3103 4 months ago
@000ADRush Watt (W) is a different unit for power, yes. A kilowatt (kW) is 1000W. 1hp equals ROUGHLY 750W. And it's not only aussies using it for engine power.

BOVs are not for VWs DV all the way. With a short ram a dv sounds fantastic no need to do mafless tune

I hear Subaru engines don't like BOVs.
xAbre1200 4 months ago in playlist Season 2
@xAbre1200
You need to tune your car for either or. If your Subaru is tuned for a recirculate and you goto a VTA your car will run like crap and rich. It's a known fact.
pdlip1 4 months ago
@xAbre1200 because they're designed to recirc. You also cannot tune for a bov on them either. With a bov you will get rich condition during shifts and foul your plugs over time. But there is plenty of oem replacements if you got leaks or other issues. And if you MUST have sound, a SRI will make your bpv plenty loud enough.
