the gold star thing for rock band confuses me

isnt it once u get 100% at the end of the song u get gold stars? or do u get gold stars once u reach the highest amount of points u can possibly get without overdrive?

I though you get gold stars when playing on expert because i got 100% on a song but i wasn't playing on expert so it just stayed as 5 stars

i know it has to be expert bcuz wen i first played "hungry like the wolf" i got gold stars and got 98%

so then i decided to play it in quickplay and i didnt use overdrive and it was gold stars as soon as the song was over

i tryed it again except on "ace of spades" and i got 100% without using overdrive and it was just 5 gold stars so i tried it again except i used overdrive and it was gold stars

and i found that very confusing

the gold star thing is a specific number of points the same way five stars, four stars and three stars is. there's a specific threshold for each rating and when you get it, you get the stars. its not exact but a general rule of thumb is that you'll get gold stars when you score 1.5 times as many points as you need to get five stars. you can also google "(insert song name) rock band gold star cutoff" and odds are you'll turn up an approximation of what you need to get gold stars.
