  • Amazing boat but could you tell me how you bend the wood as mine cracks?

  • @Confrontationify I actually used 1/2 " pine boards. I use long ones so they would bend.

  • wish you were my neibor, to help me with a boat im going to build this spring.

  • @guitargeek1122 shoot me a message if you ever have any questions, maybe I can help.

  • Beautiful Boat! Congratulations from Brazil!!!!

  • @Felipemrs1 Thank you.

  • @MRTURKI777 maybe, it would be tough, very bare bones.

  • @MRTURKI777 I would guess around $1200.00 with the sail.

  • well-done

  • That became a beautifull boat Rob. Thank you for not putting any plywood horror in my face. Pine is it ?

Looks like a boat tha coud be built in Norway where I am from. They dont have flat bottoms but narrows down to a kiel. Nice man :-)

  • @Tarsan97 Yes that is pine. My first boat.

  • @robsavino

There is something about it that talks to the soul. Plastic or aluminium just can not do the same.

Almost like to offer you a sack of money for building me one...:-)

  • meu ficou muito bom hem se fizesse para vender hem.

  • love it ..what kind of paint did you use ? i've made two wood boats so far and just use house latex and the oldest one is 7 years old and the paint is still holding on ..good job and have fun

  • Very nice work indeed. I'm a carpenter building my own boat as well and this has serve me as good inspiration . So, what now, did you sell it? do you still have it? Show us whats of it this summer!!!

  • @A1StudioPhotography did you have any pictures or video of the boat you are building?

  • shes a real beutiful boat, really cool captin!

  • thats great

  • great job great boat.

  • How does screws work kompering to rivets?

  • @inkva it's clench nailing. There has to be some movement with the fasteners. If it too tight the wood will crack.

  • Where can I get plans to build that boat?

  • @sonsofmosiah Plans from a book called Building Heidi.

  • really digging the colour scheme . kool boat capt.

  • @trinifishstix Thank you.

  • Solid Job!

What kind of wood is the hull planking?

  • @joey3847 The side are 1/2" white pine.

  • Nice boat.

    Good tune also!

  • Like 99% of youtube videos..Kill the music and it would be much improved.

  • @pismo10 the great thing about technology is that they make a mute button and volume controls.

  • Great video !

  • beautiful boat ....how is it when you capsise

  • @Nlaxer21 I never capsized the boat. So I don't know.

  • Very nice, Pretty boat :) Thanks for taking the time to share it :)

  • Hey?? would this boat design work with an inboard engine and propellor?? ect ect

  • @SthealthRaider It wouldn't work with an inboard. You could make it to fit an outboard.

  • @robsavino Why wouldnt it work with an inboard? the shape of the bottom restricts the propellor?

  • Very nice for first boat.

  • It's really cool when you get out on the water and see the fruits of your labor at work!

  • @SthealthRaider Didn't you see the pictures of it sailing? Watch the entire video.

  • Avast ye! She,s a little beauty shipmate!

  • Awesome. Beautiful lines.

  • You did a very good job. iv got a homemade 8 foot flat bottom row boat. but iv been looking forword to building a bigger one the only problems i have is what to use as a seal for the boat. i used a typ of rubber between the wood and then screwed the pannels together with the rubber as the seal like a seal in a gasket typ idea. any ideas on whats best for a rowboat to use as sealent for the bottom and sides. ?

  • @rescul2418

I used epoxy, but that was a mistake. If you are making a wooden boat. Make sure the seams are tight between the boards. When you put the boat onto the water, it will leak until the boat " takes up." this is when the boards swell to make a water tight seal. There is a caulking, not the stuff for a tube, but fabric that you put into the seams. There is a term for this, but I am drawing a blank. Hope this helps.

  • @robsavino yes, its very helpfull , i found a fabric from home hardware that worked great :) thanks for your help :)

  • Great boat where can I get some plans

  • @BrYaNLiKeSpOt

A book called "Building the Heidi"

  • Great! I only ask because I am taking a sailing class and they make you capsize the boat and teach you how to right it. Your boat sure is pretty, though!

  • Really nice! I smiled at the launch pics. I only have built a kayak. Did you consider sealing off the front and back for more bouyancy?

  • No I didn't. She floated and rode just fine.

  • @robsavino did you teach yourself how to build boats or have you former training.

  • Beautiful boat, love the sprit rig.

  • Great way to sail.

  • HERMOSO , HERMOSO , BIEN ARTESANAL ..

  • @ivanexocet Thank you.

  • Very nice proportions.

  • So, how many buckets of neapolitan ice cream did you use to colour it?

  • Does have the Italian look to it.

  • Ha ha. Say, Rob, what do you fill the screws with?

  • BEAUTY

  • How long did it take to build? Nice!

  • It took me about three months.

  • u almost got full of water in pic.

    at 3:51

  • Yes the wind really picked up. I had my nephew bailing.

  • wow that's good for your first boat

  • Thank you. I haven't built another one yet. I am thinking about a kayak.

  • how do you make the wood bend? please answer back quickly.

  • In this boat, I just used a bunch of clamps to pull the side planks in. If the wood is hard wood you may have to steam the wood to bend it.

  • you make a steam box ,put the timber in, let it soak ,take it out and bend it and sprag it in position to keep the desired shape.

  • love the boat verry inspireing.. thanks for making my day...

  • nice lines!

  • nice job. where are you sailing her?

  • I sail her in Boston

  • i think you did a good job and anyhow paits a good sealer, you go down to just about any beach and try and count boats that are not painted 99.9% are. Cheers Keep up the good work.

  • hi im a forteen year old kid and i am a sports fisherman.ive been around boats my whole life.i also have 3 and a 1/2 years of wood working expiriece from my dad and im looking to build a like yours to cruise around in my local loggoons i will mount a motor instead of sail. do you have any plans or measurements i can follow?

  • I followed a book called "Building Heidi"

  • thanks i look for it

  • why did you paint them, jerk? xD

..got any drawings so people can see exactly how it was done? :O

  • Jerk? Me? Be nice.... I planned on painting the boat the whole time. If I planned on leaving it natural than I would have chosen different wood.

  • I think he meant that you should varnish it instead. With all that hard work I would want it to show that it's a wooden boat!

  • nice very nice, how does it sail?

  • She sails nicely. Nothing high performance though. She stands out in the crowd.

  • o i was talking bout a speed skiff

  • looks like a skiff.

  • It is. A skiff for rowing or sailing.

  • Very Cool

I build Models And am planning on building some smaller ones like that one . Good job

  • Very well done Skipper. I like the spliced line for the handle on the bow.

  • NICE!!!!
