Sometimes what these people do is record a "live" track for the show, cause to be truthful, like I've said before, many will sound terrible while trying to sing while prancing around on stage like that. Lip syncing is easier than recording a "live" track so they just lip sync.
You Madonna fans are hysterical. Wanna know why KISS - Madonna, always has been, and always will be? Because KISS, even at their age, go out on stage, REALLY play their instruments, and actually SING! I know, it's an interesting concept in this age of overprocessed digital talentless hack garbage, but but there was a time when playing live meant actually playing and in order to be a musician, you had to be able to play an instrument or sing. By the way, I thought the show on Superbowl XLVI was downright fantastic and I'm not that big of a fan of any of the performers, if I'm honest, but credit it where it is due, it fantastically choreographed, and fair play to Madonna, she's earned a position of respect in the music industry.
See, here is the issue. Both Elton and Gene have taken a shot at Madonna for not singing live, but I actually don't have a problem with that. Think about it. Madonna doesn't just sing, she puts on a very active performance, way more active than most(Elton sits behind a piano in a wig for god sake!). If she sang live, within 10 minutes every other sound coming from her mouth would be deep, horrible, wheezing. When Gene and John move as much as her, then they'll have a point.
Then she should go do Disney on ice or something. Since that is what performers do. No one should pay to go see someone fake singing. That is beyond stupid.

No one in the business does the show part better, with the exception of Cirque De Soleil. As a matter a fact, I think she signed a deal with them and their promoters. Get over the lip syncing thing already. Madonna was just filler. No one paid to see her, they paid to see the game.

Of course they can - go to the West End or Broadway and you'll see it happen every night. Then there's the hundreds of concerts that Madonna has given over the years. I think it's an age thing. As you get older you can't dance like you could when you were 21 and still have the breath to sing properly.
@TheSmithDorian You mean the West End where the songs are written in a way to maximise the amount of time the singer isn't singing and dancing together, and the songs are distributed in a way to help as well. I know, I've worked in the West End. Very few shows have the same level of dancing and singing as concert by Madonna and the ones that do, don't leave all the work to just one performer.
That's true up to a point. But then again the standard that West End / Broadway singers have to achieve is generally higher than pop singers. All that said though - how do you explain the huindreds of concerts that Madonna has given in the past where she didn't lip synch?
@TheSmithDorian it's a matter of asking what you want from a Madonna show. She has a good singing voice(not phenomenal, but it is fine for what she does), I'm sure she can sing live and does, but in the situations when she does, I suggest you watch the choregraphy of the entire show, the show length and how many breaks. The end of the matter, really, is if you want Madonna the performance, then you put up with the lipsync(it is still her voice after all).
In the early 80's at her concerts she used to sing and dance 3 - 4 numbers without a break in between - although her vocal performances sometimes did suffeer a little as a result.
I don't have a problem with lip synching at an event like this. Of course if it was a Madonna concert it would be a different matter.
Madonna's half time show would have been much better had she not included all the hip-hop artist and just stuck to her material and stage show which was great. All the hip-hop was a turn off for me as an admirer of what Madonna did to change the music industry and how successful she has been.

Her songs are often wonderful... albums like "Bedtime Stories", "Ray of Light" or "Like a Prayer", just to name a few, were very well written and sold millions of copies around the World. As for the songs: "Live to tell", "Into the Groove", "Frozen", "Take a Bow", "Secret"... and many many others are all wonderful, exploraiting different styles. To me she's the best

Kiss has sold over 100 Million albums and toured the world for over 35 years for millions of fans, I think it's safe to say that when it comes to live performers, Madonna can't hold a candle to a legendary act like Kiss; a band who has always been about delivering an untouchable live show. When you take live performance as far as Kiss has for rock n' roll, it's hard not to look at Madonna and laugh at her as a live artist. She is glorified karaoke whereas a band like Kiss get onstage and own it.
Gene Simmons has had a far more lengthy career than Madonna can lay claim to. Sometimes what these people do is record a "live" track for the show, cause to be truthful, like I've said before, many will sound terrible while trying to sing while prancing around on stage like that. Lip syncing is easier than recording a "live" track so they just lip sync.

See, here is the issue. Both Elton and Gene have taken a shot at Madonna for not singing live, but I actually don't have a problem with that. Think about it. Madonna doesn't just sing, she puts on a very active performance, way more active than most(Elton sits behind a piano in a wig for god sake!). If she sang live, within 10 minutes every other sound coming from her mouth would be deep, horrible, wheezing. When Gene and John move as much as her, then they'll have a point.

No one in the business does the show part better, with the exception of Cirque De Soleil. As a matter a fact, I think she signed a deal with them and their promoters. Of course they can - go to the West End or Broadway and you'll see it happen every night. Then there's the hundreds of concerts that Madonna has given over the years. I think it's an age thing. As you get older you can't dance like you could when you were 21 and still have the breath to sing properly.

@TheSmithDorian You mean the West End where the songs are written in a way to maximise the amount of time the singer isn't singing and dancing together, and the songs are distributed in a way to help as well. I know, I've worked in the West End. Very few shows have the same level of dancing and singing as concert by Madonna and the ones that do, don't leave all the work to just one performer.

She has a good singing voice(not phenomenal, but it is fine for what she does), I'm sure she can sing live and does, but in the situations when she does, I suggest you watch the choregraphy of the entire show, the show length and how many breaks. The end of the matter, really, is if you want Madonna the performance, then you put up with the lipsync(it is still her voice after all).

In the early 80's at her concerts she used to sing and dance 3 - 4 numbers without a break in between - although her vocal performances sometimes did suffeer a little as a result.
I don't have a problem with lip synching at an event like this. Of course if it was a Madonna concert it would be a different matter.

Kiss has sold over 100 Million albums and toured the world for over 35 years for millions of fans, I think it's safe to say that when it comes to live performers, Madonna can't hold a candle to a legendary act like Kiss; a band who has always been about delivering an untouchable live show. When you take live performance as far as Kiss has for rock n' roll, it's hard not to look at Madonna and laugh at her as a live artist. She is glorified karaoke whereas a band like Kiss get onstage and own it.

Gene Simmons has had a far more lengthy career than Madonna can lay claim to. Gene speaks here about integrity as a live performer, the stage should be reserved for artists who can deliver their songs LIVE! Elton John also laughed when Madonna won a "best live artist" award and asked, "Since when the fuck is lip-synching LIVE???" These criticisms are nothing new, it's common knowledge Madonna's show is nothing more than a dance revue, it's got very little to do with good music.

Gene Simmons is a has been, (dating back to the 70's), and never had any talent other than the firework show, (it kept people awake) at his concerts. I went to see him back in 77 and left after two songs. Why? Because they sucked. Gene, go crawl back under the rock you came from sleazeball.
