  • I'm no dentist but taking out your tooth when its possible to save it is a dumb move once you do that you start to lose jaw structure. No material that can be placed back in your mouth to replace your tooth is stronger than the natural enamel surrounding the outside of your tooth.

saving your tooth when it is possible is the best thing you can do.

  • this is like watching a horror story to me..... im gonna go brush my teeth!

  • I have this, I feel a hole on the side of my tooth so I need to get this done, how long this this procedure take?

  • Hmm.... I would not take that if i was the tooth fairy X)

  • If this hasnt terrified me into making sure I clean my teeth better...I dont know WHAT will :S

  • VOM! But strangely facinating

  • yuck

  • eat it!

  • This looks like it should have a endo especially if it's getting a new crown........

  • i try to brush my teeth

  • That was awesome. It also looks like the video was being played on a PS3 at 0:41 :)

  • im on the weirdest part of you tube again.. =|

  • floss, floss, floss, i don't understand how people can ever get crowns when they can't even take care of the teeth that they have.

  • If you brush your teeth and actually take care of your teeth, this wouldn't happen :)

  • that is one fucked up tooth, pull that thing out lol

  • i wonder how his tooth got like that!

  • Nice work. Did you use a PFM

  • fun watch, at least I get to pop my own zits!

  • why did you place flowable first and not just composite. I am a new dentist and am just asking to increase my knowledge. Thank you

  • I just do not understand how people can let the decay get this severe! I understand money is an issue, but my goodness I'd at least be visiting a dental hygiene school. I am currently in dental hygiene school. We are always in need of patients for cleanings and x-rays (which are very cheap compared to office prices). The x-rays are a big money saver for the dentist you plan to go to for the restoration of the cavities you have.

  • @Sallyallie89 Radiographically, sometimes it can be a little hard to spot decay like that under a crown because crowns show up on xrays radiopaque. The only real way they would be able to tell is if they spotted it along the margin of the xray or by clinical exam. Sometimes stuff like that gets missed if it is a small enough opening on the surface.

  • oh fuck fuck fuck fuck shit

  • Wonderful Job Craig! As a dental ceramist, it's wonderful to see the operations inside the mouth, great video.

  • why not just remove it , that can make him sick

  • Was your patient a meth head?

  • do these people not brush their teeth?

  • i didnt know people still used wooden teeth :T

  • Preserving the tooth is important because it helps prevent the bone structure from receding. Tooth roots serve a very important purpose, so removing the whole tooth could cause issues down the road. This is why most dentists work so hard to preserve the teeth, rather than yanking out every problematic tooth. Dr. Kohler, thank you - I am a (fairly new) dental assistant, and enjoy learning these videos!

  • nice job!!!!i thought tht subgingival caries are not restorable

  • i've had this same procedure done and from experience i would like to say that i don't want my teeth removed! not sure about this patient but i like my teeth. i would have 14 root canals done on every tooth before i have my tooth pulled. only my wisdom teeth have ever been removed and i'll keep it that way until absolutely necessary. my dentist gives me the option - not always about the money. not all service providers are money hungry assholes. believe me - there is money to be made elsewhere.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, I am a dentist. This is my patient and I did the work. I have been practicing for thirty years in the same location. I teach other dentists for the past 12 years in Chicago and in Scottsdale Az for the last four.

  • @Alina674 Are you a dentist? If not, you are making an assumption that could be a blatant fallacy.

  • @fakemadereal What I said is not an assumption at all. Anyone with half a brain knows that there is a huge link between poor dental health & heart disease because teeth & gums harbor bacteria & open wounds & infect/bleeding gums leeches toxins into the bloodstream. In a root canal the tooth nerves are dead (aka dead tooth) b/c the dentist drills a hole into the root & fills it up. So many people with root canals have trouble with them & SOOO many people have gum diseases which makes it worse.

  • why not remove the damn tooth. jesus.

  • @duvalgmob right the tooth already old and nasty

  • The tooth will act as a base for a crown which can last 7 to 40 years. If the person lost his first molar, the replacement is usually more expensive (unless the have a removable partial or leave the space empty). If the space is left empty, the other teeth will have the tendency to drift. People do about 80% of their chewing on the 1st molar and 2nd premolar. If the tooth is gone the person really notices it in their chewing.

  • its not even a tooth anymore -_-

  • Use a bur bro...ur not in dental school

  • Why i´m watching this?

  • What is the point to this procedure? It would be cheaper in the long run to just remove the bugger!

  • Anoyone else questining their self how d fuck did i get here n y am i ceing this and dat d denstist is should hav just removed all his teeth save alot of time

  • Just use a clamp on the tooth and clamp it as hard as you can until it goes straight up, then pull it out with pliers

  • Rip it out don't play with it!

  • OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

  • remove the damm tooth!

  • Tyuo2010 - Agree completely!!! Looks like there was more patching all through the entire tooth .... Whynot just remove and replace the whole thing?

  • @hcbeal They don't make as much money that way. Word to the wise. Most dentist won't remove teeth nowadays anyway--they send you to an oral surgeon which is REALLY expensive.

I don't recall dentistry being as much of a racket 20 years ago as it is now.

  • ... and after all of that long, hard work... why not just remove the tooth?

  • WTF i'm i'm watching THIS !!!

  • i think im going stop eating candy. _.

  • @lslmo2

  • 3:09 voice crack?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Omg just remove the damn thing and get a denture!

  • I'm hungry...

  • omg, after this video i brushed my teth about an hour://

  • SCREW DECAY DETECTOR, JUST RIP THE FUCKER OUT!!!

  • Thank you God for dental health!

  • You can't handle the tooth!

  • when removing the fillong will it hurt the tooth that is not decay?

  • My parents suck. I used to never brush. Now that I'm older I brush but my teeth are fucked. What can I do to restore my enamel? Or is there even anything? I've heard you can remineralize your enamel but I don't know if its true. And advice?

  • Might as well u pull the tooth out

  • Ughhh yo pull nasty ass shit out!!

  • good repairs.

  • cheese?

  • Good God, that's gross. Just take the bastard out!

  • ... going to floss... and brush teeth...... FOREVERRRR

  • Blechh! Howw Gross!

  • thats actualy never happend to me but i do have a tooth im almost postive is decaying under my filling but i cant feel it yet but the tooth is starting to get small on odd shaped and it will probly break off in peices like yours did but thats pretty much precedure when getting a new filling depending on how much of your tooth is still intact there only so much they can do i advise getting it pulled since its fucked and then u wont have ot pay 1000 for root canals and crowns

  • that must look painful

  • DAAMMMM!!

  • You should tell patients to floss and brush instead of brush and floss. Had I known flossing was so underrated tooth 18 still might be with me:-( I have a picture of what became of it...it's not pretty.

  • String + door = problem solved

  • I bet that smelled horrific.

  • @alidee1285 lol i bet too

  • Why not just take out the tooth?

  • @XxLunaxHeartxX

you said: "why not just take out the tooth?"

dentists make no money off of a "problem SOLVED" like a bad tooth being removed. With a crown, it ensures the patient will have many years of problems to keep coming back to the dentist for work to be done on it. People would rather endure years of infection & decay instead of healthy gums minus the tooth. Dentists will tell u that missing teeth causes bone loss & tooth shifting. What's worse 2 U? infection or straight teeth.

  • @XxLunaxHeartxX When it's gone, it's gone... A good crown on a root will save the tooth. When you are 60 years old you will thank god that you saved teeth at every opportunity. Extraction is a last resort. And a good dentist will do anything they can to save your teeth.

  • @XxLunaxHeartxX Don't think there is another tooth growing under that :/

  • @XxLunaxHeartxX Of course it is easier for the dentist to just remove the tooth but a dentist should try everything possible to restore a tooth before extracting it.

  • Why not just brush your teeth?

  • @Reidmacd34 Decay can happen in spite of flossing and brushing teeth.

  • i have just got a filling done today and my cavity was small and after the numbing stuff wore off it hurt i also got two baby teeth pulled and I Am 12

  • My friend had this happan he said he was asleep

  • I paused, went to the bathroom, and am still brushing as I type this.

  • The patient is comfortable after the anaesthetic wears off. If they were in pain a root canal would be done, which would remove the blood vessel and nerve. The tooth would still be functional

  • @craigskohler Which cost an additional 1500 dollars. lol

  • @impossible @Dannielluhhh I know. Im usually not too scared about dental ehh, cleanliness. I brush and use mouthwash once a day. After this, it makes me want to brush all i can, so I don't have to chip away my teeth to nothing and replaced like this x.x

  • This is why you need to brush your teeth twice a day. Not once, TWICE!!!!!

  • my father was a victim of tOOth DeCAY MMkay

  • i say yank tht muther fucker out

  • oh my ghawd

  • brb...gonna brush my teeth for a couple days

  • get the tooth above it while you're at it xP

  • have you heard about a tooth brush?

  • geez! How do people let this happen to their teeth! THANK GOD i still have all my teeth. I know people my age that are missing teeth, have cracked teeth, crowns, caps and some kind of silver cap on their teeth. The only issue I have with my teeth is they are stained from coffee and smoking. HOWEVER I did quit smoking on 1/01/2012, almost 2 weeks! Woohoo!

  • @netflix143 How? They get their crowns put in by idiots.

  • This whole time, I didn't realize it was a projector recording...

  • at this point... id say its time just pull it .. lesson to the other teeth

  • just take the fucking tooth out already ... haha... i have a tooth pain... pardon my frustration

  • God this is so fucking disgusting it makes me want to watch it over and over. Flossing is key.

  • Seriously.... why not just PULL the tooth?? It has so much decay, it's like you're trying to milk every last little penny out of it....

  • I would love to be a dentist just to be on the opposite side of that chair just for once....

  • Don't forget to FLOSS!! I sometimes think flossing is more important than a sloppy 20 second brushing. There's so much in between teeth that brushes will never be able to get! FLOSS PEOPLE FLOSS!!

  • Is all of that caused by just not brushing?

  • haha love the top comments

  • my bet this was filmed in Europe

  • how did i go from "little shop of horrors dentist" to this?

  • how did i go from ear wax removal to dentist stuff?

  • I would have asked my dentist to rip that tooth out, it's clearly a lost cause.

  • kay, gonna go brush my teeth now.

  • your life sucks

  • Eww makin my toes curl!

  • Seeing this makes me want to brush my teeth for about an hour.

  • Good god..... It looked like that person hadn't brushed in years!!!! Nasty nasty nasty!!!!

  • brb..going to brush my teeth for an hour

  • @impossible bahahaha omg this made my teeth hurt.

  • now thats DISGUSTING!

  • ew

  • Did anybody else think that trying to save that tooth was like trying to catch sunlight.....not gonna happen. Haha I feel like brushing my teeth now.

  • I have very slight recession in my gums where there are caps. I try very hard to keep the areas clean without brushing too hard against the teeth. Will I have to worry about this as I get older? I'm only 24 now.

  • how does one get such bad root decay

  • Ur kids wont brush teir teeth then show them this

  • im going to brush my teeth 10 times a day

  • this makes me want to go to the dentist

  • looks like cheese

  • ah, gosh. this is soooo fucking disgusting. i wonder what it must smell like.

  • The tooth is a lower first molar. The tooth in front of it is a bicuspid. Those two teeth are used for 80% of the chewing on that side of the mouth. After two years, the patient still has the tooth and it is functioning well. Other alternatives are more expensive (implant or bridge) or can lead to shifting or loosening teeth (removable partial or leaving space open).

  • The finish line is over composite ?? thanks

  • I'm not a dentist but that sucker should of been removed. It's disgusting

  • agh it looks horrible

  • why u no remove tooth?

  • this makes me cringe

  • is she on navicane

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww

  • this was done with lower or hight speed ?

  • it trend red

  • Dang, something is going on under my crown hopefully it isn't this bad. How much does a procedure like this cost without health insurance?

  • I'm gonna go brush my teeth.

  • I read that new tech report from germany that uses the juice from that gland called your third eye. They mix it with a chemical and inject it into your tooth and your tooth becomes whole again. it may cost 10 grand per tooth or so.

  • OMG NOTE TO SELF: BRUSH AND FLOSS, BRUSH AND FLUS (REPEAT FOUR TIMES A DAY LOL)

  • FFFFFFUUUU i would have just got it pulled out i wouldnt want a tooth like that O__O

  • golden tooth

  • wow. goes to shw what happens when people dont brush.

  • a little gingivitis too eh?

  • fuck anyone else get paranoid that their tongue will get caught on the drill?

  • Now excuse me as I go brush my teeth...Again

  • I've had this done. Mine wasn't as bad. but yes it's not fun and it does hurt for a couple of days.

  • I only got here because i am doing research on dental care. I was shocked to find out that Root Canals can cause problems in the organs or bones of the body. Root Canals if not cleaned properly, will develop bacteria which spreads throughout the body and can cause Arthritis, or heart disease.

A woman who had arthritis and unable to walk had her RC treated tooth removed and was able to walk again. Overall health is important for healthy teeth; which means no sugar or processed foods in the diet.

  • That is one thing, that its important too have a clean mouth all the time. Listerine, Listerine does a good job.

  • Dentists are so important.

  • 0:20 I ALMOST THREW UP!

  • someone explain to me why he isn't pulling that tooth????

  • My teeth will never look like that that is nasty.

  • it looks like oat meal that gone rotten thumbs up if u think it looks like that

  • I think I'm on that weird part of Youtube again

  • complacent dentists dont do this good of a job. the old school if it aint broke dont mess with it comes to mind here. i have 28 year old crowns that no dentist in the past 20 years has said "you should get those checked". until recently where i have some edge leakage and decay. 5 crowns have to be replaced cha ching ..yeah the long dollar.thankfully i have insurance and money. if my crown was already made can i still get tooth worked on then built up again, lets say if i want him to redo?

  • looks fun.

  • Clearfil SE bond is a self etching primer that does not need the traditional acid etching. It works great on dentin bonding . Acid etch has a higher bond stregth with all enamel

  • @craigskohler i had a cavity since i was a kid like 11 years old i think when i first caught it but they put a silver thing inside the tooth where the hole is at now im 20 the silver thingy came out now my molar teeth is coming apart only a back part i still have a 3rd of it left what should i do cause it haven't decay or nothing please hhhhhhhhelp me??????

  • @Director2993 dentist bro he will clean it up put and put a new filling on an most dentist dont use silver anymore they use something way more stronger that will last for almost ever

  • @benlardo how much they go for

  • @Director2993 i forget im pretty sure they are cheaper then silver i think it would be hard to find a dentist that even works with silver considering after about 15 years they just crack away i think i payed like 350-400 for 3 teeth to be filled with it but im not a dentist

  • @benlardo thanks bro but one more thing how long did it take for your tooth to decay

  • can they put u to sleep at the dentist so u dont have to be awake while all this is happening?

  • shut your fucking hooorible mouth

  • I wonder why there is no acid etching step!

    Can some one explain.

How come he applied flowable then compasite with no etching of the surface?!

  • Im scared. =( i have to go to the dentist soon... eep.

  • yes I will do that.

  • Record a root canal please.
