@Trashman242 thats cool have you ever filmed disposal services down in chino hills and orange county do you want to come in my neighborhood and film my trucks i have some old petes!
@DisposalAmreps Before this the only ASLs they were making had vertical braces or "ribs" going down the side of the body. This was when they first started producing them with "smooth" sides to the body.
If you want to see an example of a ribbed body truck, go to my channel and watch the video I posted about a week ago of the Valley Vista truck.
Well done sir, well done. Congratulations on your milestone and that is an excellent 500th video. I have always liked seeing the old geared fold out claws on these, cool to see one still running.
NICE!!!!!!!! Ex LA FTW!!! I loved this footage! Like and Fav!!! I love seeing those Heil 7000's with the lower hoppers, so fun to watch! oTTo Bear Savers FTW! I also like the Yellow Lids! Love Pete 310s! The sound this truck makes is soooooooooo cool! EPIC footage! It was truly Special all right! Loved the angle at 12:45, wish the cart was full! Now then, what is video 1000 gonna be? JK lets not go that far yet!
@GodOfSwat Thank you yes I like the lower entry to the hopper also, good indicator of the body's age since newer ones are almost the same level as the rest of the body. Pete 310 is most likely my favorite chassis, they all sound just a bit different from each other, but no matter what it's a good sound every time. HAHA 1000 will be in like 25 years...if I even last that long...and if the world doesn't end this december ;)
@Trashman242 Definitely! LOL ikr but I believe God can end the world whenever He pleases. I wish LA kept one Heil for show not to use, a never used one that could be used in presentations or memorabilia I guess.
ahhhhh a peterbilt 310 looking great. in my honest opinion the heil formula 7000 is one of my more favorited heils, the pythons really bore me but these are really interesiting to watch, i love how the hoppper is so open and big, and the arm isn't the exact same thing as a python so its much different. Its good to see that LA invested in some good trucks before the amrep days like ESD!!! very nice design of the body and love the tag axl!!!
congratz on 500!!! now go for 1000!! hahahahaha!!!
WHOA NICE MAN! you got it on both commercial AND residential loved that shot of it turning down to start its residential route too! this truck doesnt even look old-at first glance! haha those grippers have always been my favorite since they stood out from the rest i keep thinkin of how similar this looks to the heil pyrhon arm and body esp. that tailgate! sort of crazy to think when i watched those There goes a Garbage Truck vids little did i know those were still around and so close to home too
@garbagekid1 Thanks :D Truth is, it isn't! I would guess 1994 model or thereabouts. Can't deny that CR&R has kept it up pretty nicely too though.
Yeah really it's cool that it's still in use. Then I couldn't believe my eyes when we're waiting outside the yard and the headlights just flick on! Like the third truck out of the yard, too. Reuters, yes, that would've been amazing
Appreciate your comments as always, and wow 3 views that's saying something! Thank you :D
Yes, I liked watching these heils when i was small. They use to pass through my route when i was younger. But I saw the L.A. ones when they were still around. hope L.A. sanitation brings them back when I work there soon. :)
An Ex LA Heil is pretty awesome man. Glad you found it and filmed it! Sure is quite the truck, and history indeed! And the snow adds to the uniqueness of the video. Awesome, awesome, awesome job on this!
Awesome video scott! Congrats on 500. Glad to see this truck. Is sounds great! Was it pretty quiet out their in Phelan? Great footage again. Wish it flipped lids though.
I see what appears to be an Amrep/Peterbilt 310 at the far right of the yard(or is that an old WX?),and what looks like a stand-up drive WXLL/Amrep. What is that to the left of the 310 at 00:11? Also, maybe a trip to Imperial county? Three companies there: Burrtec,CR&R,and AW. Well, enough rambling on my part. The video was great, the F7K is my favorite Heil ASL,and congratulations on 500 videos! I can't wait for 501!
@RecologySMCKid The two trucks to the right of the 7k are a WXLL/Amrep MSL and WX64/Maxon FL. To the left of it is one of the WX64/Rapid Rails, exactly like what Mike's filmed and uploaded. Thanks for your comments!
Like CurrottoCanMaster82,it took me more than 500 characters to say everything. :) This truck is awesome, and so is all the other equipment in the Phelan yard from what I've seen here and on Google Streetview. Is this the regular truck for this route? It seems like they should use an MSL because of all those BearSavers(is it"a MSL" or"an MSL"?) By the way,if you take suggestions,I suggest you get more footage from this yard if you can. (Continued)
@RecologySMCKid Normal truck is a Rapid Rail. The 7000 is just a spare.
It would seem like it to me, but most of them aren't working and they open freely when tipped upside down. There were only a couple times he had to get out and unlatch the lids.
A MSL does trash here; supposedly with a two-man crew.
I do intend to film more of their residential trucks. But finding routes in a spread out desert community is insanely difficult, as you may one day find...
I agree with JaccobDalton,it does sound like M292. It also makes a rattling sound similar to that of some of Recology's older Volvos/WhiteGMCs. I've never seen one with a curved shell like this, but I've only ever seen one F7000! I noticed that the hopper is a lot longer than on the truck I filmed.I like how he revs the engine whenever he does anything with the arm. Why do you say Peterbilt 310/early 320? I'm 99% sure this is a 310. This combo is very rare, especially for an Ex-LA truck.
@RecologySMCKid For a short time, Peterbilt was making a truck cab that looked identical to the 310 with slanted back of the cab, but it had some upgrades so it was a new model (320) already. A few years later they made more upgrades to the 320, and that's when the slant back disappeared. Since this is a 90s model, it's more likely the cab was a 320, not a 310 as was produced all the way thru the 80s.
@Trashman242 Really? With the same doors and everything? WOW! So,is there a way to tell them apart? In WMmaster626's videos,I noticed some 310s had a regular grill and some had a really big one.Do you know why that is?
@RecologySMCKid Yeah it's extremely hard to tell the difference, or at least we haven't found a difference yet. But that only applies to models made just for like a year or two--after that they changed it to the actual design we know today.
The grille isn't an indicator of whether it's a 320 or 310--this one for instance just has a smaller, square one. But you'll see others (like EDCO truck M292, the FL I recently posted) where it is designed to have a semi-circular portion 'missing'. This so there is space for the PTO; the mechanism that transfers power from the engine to the hydraulics. All trucks have them, but they can be mounted different places (some trucks have them mounted on the front bumper).
Following a truck out of the yard is the best way to find any vintage truck. Excellent work! 500 will always be remembered. Something even better from this truck is the LA paint on the gripper assembly. This truck almost sounds like that roaring 310 Front loader from EDCO, you posted recently. Definitely loved the roar. Congratulations on your 500th post! This truck is more than history.
@JaccobDalton Especially when you're lucky enough to see it used that day! Turned out this truck was just a spare that he happened to be using. That kind of luck's hard to come by these days.
Well, not entirely. lol this truck doesn't have nearly the deep growl that 292 does. Shows you which of the two companies is better ha (EDCO)
@reyflow8 Thank you so much. Your emphatic, supportive comments are what keep me going. It really means a lot to me. It's for comments like this that I'm still doing what I do!
@Trashman242 You are very welcome. It's just a favor in return for what you did for me! (6 months ago, when you encouraged me to begin filming my trucks!)
Wow great job !! I saw this truck when I filmed The yard in Phelan got some other cool trucks and CR&R In San Bernardino county and riverside county has cool trucks Great job and I love to watch your videos always !!!
I alsp found it awesome how it sends smoke flying after every dump. This, my friend, is what I call a real garbage truck. None of that low-emmision or CNG crap.
Awesome job and congratulations on 500!!! Can't wait to see what the next 500 bring! This is deffinately a neat looking truck, def something worthy of being a 500th special1 You have any idea what the year on this truck is? And for the record does CR&R happen to run any rar loaders? Deff some neat lighting in this video too! The only place I remember seeing these grips before was in the movie "Garbage Day" that I beliave you posted on here. Haha those breaks kinda souns like ducks. Great job man
@rws676 Well what's funny is it's only from the mid 90s!
Thats an interesting question, and I can't say I know the answer. There's some evidence/rumors that they have an operation in Colorado, so if anywhere that's the most likely place. But even so, I've only heard of front loaders, maybe MSLs being used there.
You gotta check out the city of Torrance videos! They're not identical, but they're the same fold-up design. And there's a few others on here besides those, too. THANKS!
@Trashman242 I'll have to check those out. It would be neat to see if someone was able to find the Colorado division and film one day. BTW does needing 2 comments because you ran out of characters considered a "worthy"comment? haha. I'm with ya on that one man. I don't need 17 people to tell me nice video...
@rws676 I tried VERY hard to find it on google maps, actually I think I did find it but there was nothing to be seen there. I just know because there's a pic or two on flickr of a CR&R Amrep on Mack LE with a carry can, and it was written in the caption that the truck was for CR&R of Colorado. Ah that's fine--the more the better! The main thing is that people at least say something. "Nice video" is meaningless, comments like those make me have second thoughts about editing/posting/etc...
Loved every moment hearing this beast scream and roar! I feel like watching it a few more times lol. Certainly something worth filming several times before it hits the archives. This vid made my jaw drop to the floor, and made my day. Fantastic super excellent job on your 500th. Definitely adding this to my playlist of fav automated vids (YT limits my Favorites :/). Looking forward to see more great vids in the future.
@RainbowDisposal Thanks a billion :) You've still got Mike's footage coming up, and he went twice so there's plennnttyyy of documentation of this machine.
hey i believe the city of torrance still has a few of these trucks as spare. i remember when i was a little kid and la city switched to the automated trucks and two of these truck would dump the trash and yard waste
@Trashman242 Torrance actually had several Pete 310 7000s from this time, I don't know if they have any left though. Its possible they do have one for a spare though as I found one on google maps street view before it was redone. If it was in fact gotten rid of, it was fairly recently. Jared and I have only seen about 5 of their ASLs after all, so it could have easily avoided us in the two times we went there.
wow awesome! I knew there had to be an old LA truck out there somewhere but I never would have thought CR&R had it! And based on its age it's holding up great! I've also never noticed how wide the hopper is on these things. How does this driver like this truck? I know a few drivers that used to drive these and they seem to like the Amreps much better. Any particular reason why they send an ASL through here when the driver has to get out at almost every stop to undo the lids? Thanks for posting!
@WasteManTony Well I was truly amazed it was still being used, as the last confirmed year it was used was late-2007. Other than that, it's only been seen in the back of CR&R yards by a couple of us, and it was merely a rumored guess that they moved it to Phelan.
It's used as a spare, so I'm sure when compared to his normal RR, he likes that better (arm's certainly smoother; Amrep is too).
I wondered the same thing! Reality is most of the latches don't work, so he didn't have to.
fuck yea glad to see this beast in action sounds like our old 310 Maxon MSLs. Love the old tail gate design makes.me wonder if Heil ever made a F7000 with ribbes? Sure is on the the epic combos i have ever saw! great 500 video Scott out done your self my friend! Were they dumping recycle or trash can't tell becasue all of the ash in the lasts carts? this gose the favs
@AlliedWaste76 Well, Heil still *does* make an ASL ribbed body lol. Formula 7000 square body. You should have seen this on their site by now! There's also a super-duper rare ribbed body that simulates the DuraPack, but I think that was a prototype as I've seen a grand total of one (1) pictures of that lol
Shows that LA didn't always flip lids. Love the smoke comeng out of the truck too! Looks nice against the sun. I guess my commenting time is over. Time to stop annoying you. lol You did a nice job on this video! You really made me smile today!
Makes watching the truck even more interesting! Loving the snow footage! I seriously should have made a video of my expression and posted it as a video response. Has my favorite noise too! (like the their goes a garbage truck RR, Best resemblence I could find lol) Doesn't seem to like the EVR IIs though. Wish one fell in. I like how the oTTos say bear saver! Does the driver have to get out and undo those before he dumps them? I think this trucks is acutally better without lid flips.
Holy crap! OMG! You have no clue what is going throught my mind right now! Holy crap. This is a huge piece of history right here! Sounds just as I thought it would too! One of the best sounding F7000s out there! I like how the body is starting to resemble the dura-pack body and the tailgate is starting to look like the dura-pack one too! But the hopper, that is something different! I like how those grippers are attatched to the truck. Makes it look interesting! Boy, this arm can sure fly!
I had no idea when Mike said success that you were in on it too! Congrats man, what time did you wake up? I'm super excited for the trucks beyond San Diego county (you can drive?!) Did you follow it out of the yard to Wrightwood? Seems like the driver was super nice! I'm kind of glad I found this truck on streetview, haha. Did you see the small truck up there too? What trucks did the other stuff? SOrry for asking so many questions, this is just really exciting. Great catch.
@r6man2 ha yeah I had the idea to have one of us just go and nonchalantly say something on that pic :) It was like 3:30 when I left lol. Takes a toll on ya, let me say that too. Driver was alright, didn't know much english at all but cooperative enough for us. What "small truck" do you mean? After Mike and Jared did a trip up here the following week, they learned that an Amrep MSL did trash. Phelan runs a number of Amreps (no ASLs!), and 2-3 Rapid Rails. Appreciate your comment!!
Real nice truck and congratulations on your 500th video! My trash company All Waste used to own F7000's just like this one with a Pete chassis and a curved body, except the ones that All Waste had didn't have tag axles.
Awesome footage, this truck looks very good for its age, must be well looked after. The second generation curved bodies had a slightly different hopper design, I like this one better. It was interesting to see that all the bins there are all Otto 'Bear Savers', never seen a bear proof bin before. The mechanism to lock the lid looks pretty simple, but probably very effective.
@macdonaldjohnstonfan The other thing that really changed for good was the tailgate; this design lasted hardly any time at all, and its successor is what Heil has on FLs and ASLs to this DAY!
Also they're giving up on the bear-proof cause, since they have quite a few Toter EVRIIs handed out already. Almost 1 out of every 2 carts in this vid are regular Toters. And the bearproof carts don't even work! If they did, the driver would have to get out and unlatch every lid...
Nice looks like you were in N. California. Congrats on 500 videos!

@RainbowDisposal Thanks a billion :) You've still got Mike's footage coming up, and he went twice so there's plennnttyyy of documentation of this machine.

hey i believe the city of torrance still has a few of these trucks as spare. i remember when i was a little kid and la city switched to the automated trucks and two of these truck would dump the trash and yard waste
fs46 2 months ago
@fs46 Torrance does use F7000s, but their trucks are much newer.
Trashman242 2 months ago

WasteManTony 2 months ago

AlliedWaste76 2 months ago
@AlliedWaste76 Well, Heil still *does* make an ASL ribbed body lol. Formula 7000 square body. You should have seen this on their site by now! There's also a super-duper rare ribbed body that simulates the DuraPack, but I think that was a prototype as I've seen a grand total of one (1) pictures of that lol
Whole time it was recycle...as said at 0:36 ;)
Trashman242 2 months ago
@Trashman242 oh yea i ment the durapack style and Heil said they discontinued the Formula 7000 body
ah ok just looked like trash by seeing all the ashes fall out of a few carts

Mike3141981 2 months ago
Awesome footage, this truck looks very good for its age, must be well looked after. The second generation curved bodies had a slightly different hopper design, I like this one better. It was interesting to see that all the bins there are all Otto 'Bear Savers', never seen a bear proof bin before. The mechanism to lock the lid looks pretty simple, but probably very effective.
macdonaldjohnstonfan 2 months ago
@macdonaldjohnstonfan The other thing that really changed for good was the tailgate; this design lasted hardly any time at all, and its successor is what Heil has on FLs and ASLs to this DAY!
Also they're giving up on the bear-proof cause, since they have quite a few Toter EVRIIs handed out already. Almost 1 out of every 2 carts in this vid are regular Toters. And the bearproof carts don't even work! If they did, the driver would have to get out and unlatch every lid...
